9/11 By Kaylee Demers
Fact Box _______________________ This was not the first time there has been a terrorist attack on the Twin towers. In 1993 there was a bombing that killed six people.
This is a map of the routes that the planes took. Red=flight 11. Maroon=flight 175. blue= flight 93, and green=flight 77.
September 11, 2001 On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked, and crashed in the US. People ran from the crash sites, covered in ash. Though it may have been a very sunny day outside, the events that occurred will always be remembered as a very scary time for america. 9/11 was a scary day, and it changed everything because something like this has never happened before, almost 3,000 people died and there were several different attacks all over the US, and it was not as simple as one country to blame.
Why it’s Important An attack in the US like the one on September 11, has never happened before. The US has been in wars before. But that was always in other countries. No one has ever attacked the US like this before. No one has dared, because the US has the largest armies in the world. “‘The U.S. spends close to what the entire rest of the world spends in defense'” -military.com.

The Four Planes
This is a picture of the World trade centers after the planes hit.
Time Line
•
The first plane took off from Boston Logan International Airport. It was flight 11. It hit the North Tower of the world Trade Center at 8:46 Am. There were 81 passengers and eleven crew members. The second plane, flight 175, hit the South tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03. The third plane was flight 77. There were 58 passengers and six crew members. The plane was on its way to LA before it got hijacked. It crashed into the pentagon at 9:37 Am. On the fourth plane, there were 37 passengers, and 7 crew members. It took off from New Jersey. The people on this plane, had heard about the other planes. They tried to fight the hijackers, and steer the plane away from its targeted course. A couple of these people were Thomas Burnett Jr., Todd Beamer, and the flight attendant Sandy Bradshaw. They were all heard on the phone. Thomas Burnett Jr. was heard saying, “I know we’re all going to die. There’s three of us who are going to do something about it. I love you, honey.” -http://www.history.com/topics/9-11-attacks. He explained that the three of them were trying to take down the hijackers. They ended up succeeding, and made the plane miss the target. It instead crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. It crashed at 10:07 Am. Without them stepping up, who knows how many more people could have died?
Who attacked Us? It was not a country that attacked us. It was a group. It was an Islamic Extremist group called al-Qaeda. There were 19 members that were responsible for the crashes. There were a couple of them on each plane, they hijacked the plane and crashed them. In conclusion, September 11 was a scary day that changed many things because it was not as simple as one country to blame, something like this has never happened before, almost 3,000 people died and there were several different attacks all over the US. The four attacks killed many people, and was a very scary event. “It was the worst day we have ever seen, but it brought out the best in all of us.” -Sen. John Kerry. Bibliography History.com Staff.
