Globally, anaerobic digestion (AD) in biogas plants is widely used to produce sustainable bioenergy from various organic feedstocks. The versatility of feedstock used, highlights the importance of treating effluents through specialised technologies.

After separation into solid and liquid phases, biogas digestate is an excellent organic fertiliser. The solid phase is a high-quality organic soil conditioner, while the liquid phase is an enriched liquid fertiliser. Recirculating the liquid reduces the consumption of fresh water.
