Dr Amrish Mehta Consultant Neuroradiologist and Clinical Lead, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Dr Amrish Mehta has been a Consultant Neuroradiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust since 2005. He is the Head of Specialty for Neuroradiology and the Clinical Lead for Stroke Imaging. He is the author of numerous chapters on the subject and has a national reputation in the field. Dr Maneesh Patel Consultant Neuroradiologist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Dr Patel has been a Consultant Neuroradiologist at Imperial for 15 years. His subspecialist interests include ENT and skull base radiology and neurointervention. He trained in radiology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and neuroradiology (including ENT) at Manchester Royal Infirmary, with shorter placements in Sheffield, Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, and Hopital Laribiosiere, Paris. Dr Neil Rane Consultant Neuroradiologist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Neil Rane qualified in medicine from Cambridge University in 2005 following a bachelors in neuroscience. After junior rotations at Addenbrooke’s and Papworth Hospitals he entered into radiology at Oxford and subspecialised early into neuroradiology. This led to a fellowship in interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology. Whilst in Oxford he was a member of the AMICI group working in acute stroke research. Following qualification, he gained further experience as a Consultant Neuroradiologist at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Edinburgh. He was the 2014 Codman Neurointerventional Fellow at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Here he gained experience at a major trauma centre in advanced neurointerventional techniques including acute stroke intervention as part of the EXTEND-‐IA trial. He was appointed as Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist at Imperial in 2015. 6
Dr Abhinav Singh Consultant Neuroradiologist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Dr Abhinav Singh is a Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist at Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust. A graduate from Bart’s & the London, he trained in radiology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, following completion of basic surgical training in London. He trained in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology on the London neuroradiology fellowship programme, having also undertaken a MSc in interventional neuroradiology at the University of Oxford. Dr Adam Waldman Consultant Neuroradiologist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Adam Waldman gained a PhD and undertook post-doctoral research in biophysics before training in medicine at Cambridge. He trained in radiology at University College Hospitals and subsequently in neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. Dr Waldman has been a Consultant Neuroradiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (formerly HHNT) since 2001. Since 2006 he has been departmental academic lead as Research Director for Radiology, and has also founded an academic training programme in clinical radiology. He was awarded the 2009 Royal College of Radiologists Roentgen Professorship and medal, and holds honorary senior academic appointments at Imperial College London. His main research interests are in quantitative and physiological neuroimaging, particularly as applied to neuro-oncology and neurodegenerative dementias and neuroinflammatory disease.

Abstracts (where supplied) Ischaemic stroke Dr Amrish Mehta This talk will present the current evidence behind and guidance on imaging strategies within the first 6 hours following an acute stroke. Intracranial haemorrhage Dr Kyriakos Lobotesis Intracerebral haemorrhages are a common occurrence in adults. Differentiating between the various types and aetiologies can be challenging. We will evaluate typical patterns and characteristic imaging features of haemorrhages and look at what can help to differentiate them. We will also look at possible mimics and consider when to mention them in reports. The information will be in the form of didactic and case presentation. CNS infection Dr Farah Alobeidi Infectious diseases of the brain continue to pose considerable diagnostic challenges despite advances in neuroimaging. Although there are well established imaging patterns of the broad categories of infectious disease, there is significant overlap both within the infectious disease entities and between these and other CNS pathologies, namely malignancy, posing diagnostic uncertainty for radiologists. Globalisation and the increasing number of patients on immunosuppressive therapy adds to the complexity as we encounter infections from further afield and patients with altered host responses that experience a greater frequency of infections and who no longer express an expected normal pattern of injury. This talk, together with the interactive session and workshop, aims to unravel some of these diagnostic conundrums, to prompt the reporting radiologist to consider infection in their differential diagnosis and to provide a framework for the general approach to CNS infections. Learning objectives: • Review common clinical presentations of CNS infections and their radiological manifestations • Develop a framework for a general approach to CNS infections with a particular emphasis on the broad categories of infectious disease • Identify the salient differentiating imaging features of common CNS infections encountered in daily modern practice • To consider the diagnostic challenges associated with immunocompromised patients • Recognise the importance of the clinical information and serial imaging in increasing diagnostic accuracy for atypical cases 8
Neurooncology/tumours Dr Adam Waldman Characteristic appearances and differentiating features in intra-axial and extra axial primary and secondary CNS tumours will be discussed, with reference to nonmalignant lesions. Recommended protocols and management strategies for low and high grade lesions will be described. Key learning points from the lecture will be augmented and further illustrated in the interactive session and case-based workshop. Neuroinflammatory disease Dr Brynmore Jones Differentiating between multifocal white matter lesions in the CNS can be difficult. We will evaluate typical patterns of white matter lesions in the common CNS inflammatory pathologies and look at what can help to differentiate them from small vessel (microangiopathic) processes. We will look at MS mimics and consider when to mention them in reports. We will consider the different causes of long segment myelitis. The information will be presented in a short didactic lecture, interactive best answer response questions and in a workshop. Neurodegenerative disease Dr Adam Waldman The role of imaging in the investigation of dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders will be discussed, including key imaging features of common dementias and extrapyramidal disorders. Appropriate imaging modalities and protocols will be described in different clinical scenarios. Lecture material will be supplemented by the associated workshop and interactive session. Epilepsy Dr Olga Kirmi Epilepsy is a common neurological condition. Whilst specific seizure types, specific semiology and specialised MR protocol increases the probability of identifying the epileptogenic lesion, the majority of the time MR imaging will be begative. This short lecture aims to demonstrate a structured approach to MR imaging, give guidance to paediatric and adult protocols, review the imaging features of epileptogenic lesions and provide background knowledge along with key differential diagnoses.

Trauma Dr Olga Kirmi and Dr Neil Rane The imaging of neurological trauma can be a challenge to all radiologists. Detection of major findings can be time-critical from a trauma and neurosurgical perspective and have significant impact on the management of the patient. Assessment of trauma imaging requires experience and expertise. Subtle findings can be easily missed and can be crucially important. Learning objectives: • Review major mechanisms of injury in relation to neuroradiological findings • Discuss optimisation of imaging parameters for neurological trauma • Reinforce schema for systematic analysis of neurological trauma • Use radiological findings in neurological trauma as the basis for understanding imaging principles • Understand the neurosurgical perpective of major neurological trauma
