On September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma impacted Southwest FL. After this historic and devastating storm, I felt compelled to document the destruction all around us which led to my photography series “Remnants from Irma”; a story of hope and healing. The “RFI” imagery further inspired two successive painting series “Avenues” and ”The Rhythm of the Road”.

AVENUES

“AVENUES” No.1 20” x 20” Acrylic on canvas
“AVENUES No.2” 20” x20” Acrylic on canvas
“AVENUES No.3” 20” x 27” Acrylic on canvas
“AVENUES No.4” 20” x 27” Acrylic on canvas
Photography has always been an important tool for me. First, as pure inspiration and then as documentation during the stages of creating a work of art.

“AVENUES No.6” 20” x 27” Acrylic on canvas
I document pattern, texture and light reflections to build a digital reference library of sculptural shapes, organic repetitions and abstract twisted wonders; a starting point for new collections.

“Avenues No. 8” – detailed close up

All of the images in this next series are “micro” captures of specific active areas of pattern within “Avenues”. Expansion of the details drawn onto canvas was spontaneous. Only when flat color was added did the enlarged spaces take on a different life.

RHYTHM OF THE ROAD

“DIVE IN” 48”x60” Acrylic on canvas
“ALWAYS TAKE THE SCENIC ROUTE” 48” x 60” Acrylic on canvas
To create these storytelling puzzles, acrylic colors positioned side by side start to create entertaining surprises. An owl in sunglasses? Plane coming in for landing? Bird in a nest? Monk praying? Fish doing a backflip? I’ll let the viewer decide.
”ERUPTION” 48” x 60” Acrylic on canvas
“FLY HIGH” 48” x 60” Acrylic on canvas
I intuitively painted strong colors for these series. Referencing my favorite inspirations - Pop Art, Hockney, Vasarely, Kusama, Warhol are just a few of my influences. Bright, bold, big, graphic, whimsical.
“STAY THE COURSE” 48” x 60”, Acrylic on canvas
“JUST FLOW” 48” x 60” Acrylic on canvas
Connecting creates possibilities and curiosity fuels discovery. Where is your walk taking you?
