We invite you to play your part and help open the door for the next generation of audiences and theatre makers. 2021 marks the 50th birthday of our iconic home in Centenary Square. As we celebrate this milestone, and look ahead to the next 50 years, the Open House project will increase our resilience and help to secure The REP’s future. Open House will transform the frontage and public areas of our building, creating an inclusive and welcoming entrance and foyer and better connecting us with the beautifully rejuvenated square and surrounding area. As we continue our recovery from Covid in a city and nation marked indelibly by the pandemic, the need for culture, community and creativity has never been greater.
By reimagining and creating fabulous new public spaces, with enhanced café and restaurant facilities, we will be able to generate additional revenue, which will be reinvested in making world class theatre, delivering impactful education and community programmes and nurturing the artists and theatre makers of tomorrow. In 2022, the eyes of the world will be on Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games. With such a fantastic spotlight on the city, Open House will allow us to realise the potential of this incredible opportunity and show case The REP on the international stage.
Open House will unlock the door to new audiences and income streams, allowing us to move towards a more sustainable and resilient future.” Rachael Thomas and Sean Foley Executive Director and Artistic Director
We need your help to make our ambitious plans a reality and lay the foundations for another 50 years. The project has already secured a grant of £1.47m from the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership and a contribution from Birmingham City Council. We are also launching our Open House Appeal to help us raise a further £250,000.
