It’s exciting to be working with a major city attraction and neighbour in Southside. Attending Leading Ladies is a very useful way to meet like-minded women in businesses from all sectors.”
“From a business perspective the relationship with the Hippodrome, which has a fantastic reputation throughout the West Midlands and the rest of the country, has been very rewarding.”

GALA 2014
IRWIN MITCHELL IS
ONE OF A KIND Irwin Mitchell has become the first corporate supporter of Hippodrome Plus drama group One of a Kind. Under the expert direction of Richard Hayhow, One of a Kind works with young people aged 16-18 years with learning disabilities. The aim of the weekly sessions is to increase selfconfidence, personal communication skills, self-expression and team work of the participants through drama. Sessions include warm-ups, improvisation, script and plot development as well as performance.
• The Leavesley Group happened to have WWI stretchers, camo netting, board walks and oil cans lying around which they loaned to our Creative Learning team in order to help transform the Patrick Centre into a WWI trench for the theatre’s family sleepover alongside War Horse. .........................................................................................
Why not play a major part at our most dazzling corporate event and become a sponsor of our GALA 2014? With over 20 companies already booked to attend with their guests YOUR business can enjoy a platform and profile in the presence of 300 key city names, the region’s media, stakeholders and influencers. The exciting sponsorship package is BURSTING WITH BENEFITS that make this THE not-to-be-missed opportunity of 2014. Call Judith Greenburgh on 0121 689 3082 for details.
GOOSE ON THE LOOSE! National Theatre’s ‘Lucy the Goose’ made a surprise appearance at the War Horse network reception. Matt Forbes and Joseph Richardson from the cast offered an exclusive insight into this powerful sell-out production. ‘Lucy’ pecked at the delicious leftovers from our sweet treat table and scampered after the 50 cross-sector guests, taking a close interest in hemlines and high heels!
Our raffle proved as popular as ever and generous Leading Ladies helped to raise over £1,000 for the first ever Relaxed Performance at this year’s panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
In part the group is a response to the shocking statistic that four out of five young people with learning disabilities will not find any form of permanent employment. And that is where Irwin Mitchell stepped in. Irwin Mitchell Regional Managing Partner, Stuart Henderson said “Being involved with the local community is a natural element of Irwin Mitchell’s day to day working life. We are in constant dialogue with the community. It is this close link that has enabled us to identify some of the key social issues that we address via our employee volunteering and charitable giving.”

• Property sector Chamberlain Club has made the Hippodrome its new home for quarterly events discussing topics affecting the industry while enjoying first-class service and hospitality in one of our private suites. .............................................................
A small team of volunteers from Irwin Mitchell is due to receive training before actively supporting the group. Stuart Henderson added “We are very supportive of the One of a Kind initiative and Birmingham Hippodrome. The theatre plays a vital cultural role in the city and we have been impressed with its Creative Learning Programme. One of a Kind plays an important role in developing confidence and personal communication skills amongst those young people that attend and we are delighted to be involved.”
• A shout-out to Squire Sanders for their generous donation to our first-ever Relaxed Performance at this year’s star-studded panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. We look forward to welcoming company volunteers at this special afternoon dedicated to young patrons with sensory impairments, learning disabilities and autism. ..........................................................................................................................

A flurry of excitement surrounded our announcement of 2014’s production of Richard Wagner’s The Ring Cycle produced by The Mariinsky Theatre and conducted by footballloving maestro Valery Gergiev.
• Who got to cuddle up to panto star Gok Wan? None other than the Lloyds team who received an exclusive invitation to this year’s show launch. Nothing like mixing business with show business (but this time it looks like the fashion stakes were won by Lloyds!).

• The Technical team had another triumph on its hands when it created the atmosphere of a stunning turn-ofthe-century village fête in the Patrick Centre complete with maypole for the Pertemps client reception on the final night of the sell-out War Horse run. .........................................................................
For many, the thunderous Ride of the Valkyries will be the most familiar music in a masterpiece that builds over four nights to its thrilling climax. This is the journey of a lifetime.
We are looking for visionary business partners at the highest end of the luxury and wealth markets to come on this Wagnerian quest with us. Call Judith Greenburgh for more details on 0121 689 3082. Student Ambassadors have enjoyed shows as part of a series of events hosted by college Principal, Dame Christine Braddock DBE during her year as High Sheriff of the West Midlands.
“In collaboration with the Gooch Estate, our partnerships with the Hippodrome on community projects such as Illuminate, which promote Southside to visitors from Birmingham and beyond, are tremendously satisfying.”
“It has been a pleasure to introduce our student Ambassadors to this wonderful theatre and its range of shows. Without exception we have received first class service at our private events and watched first class performances.”
