Torrential rain in the morning cleared up by noon. Fiona said: “It was a fantastic day, it seemed that Birstall was full of gazebos and it was great to see so many making an effort.” The Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood, David and Jan Gaskell of Roman Road, took part in the sale. Jan said: “What a day – we got absolutely soaked attempting to move our items for sale firstly back and forwards into the porch, then trying to cover them with plastic sheeting and finally moving everything into the garage. Despite the dreadful weather we met some interesting people whilst raising much needed funds. Well done Fiona and her team for a

well organised event.” The event was supported by a grant of £286 from Birstall Parish Council which paid for printing maps, posters and leaflets. “Huge thanks to the council for that grant” said Fiona. “I don’t think the event would have happened this year without it.”
