Clergy Fight for Hiv/Aids Legislation Dr. Calvin O. Butts Leads Capitol Hill Initiative On Feb. 10, The National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS (NBLCA) will travel to Capitol Hill to push for congressional approval of H.R. 1964, the National Black Clergy for the Elimination of HIV/AIDS Act of 2009, which lays out a comprehensive plan for the federal government to lead the way in marshaling resources in the fight against HIV/AIDS and targeting them where they are most needed.

The campaign is part of NBLCA's efforts to mark National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, which falls on February 7, a few days prior to the campaign.

"February 7, 2010 marks the 10th year of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day," noted NBLCA Board Chairman Rev. Calvin O. Butts III. "We as a nation recognized long ago that HIV and AIDS are at crisis levels in the Black community. This is the year that we
must finally put into place policies that address the alarming numbers we have been seeing for decades." Butts noted that, even though blacks represent about 12 percent of the US population, they account for about half of those with HIV/AIDS. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2006 there were 56,000 new HIV infections, and 67 percent of them were among Blacks and Latinos. HIV is the leading cause of death for Black women aged 25-34 years and they are 23 times and 4 times more likely to be living with AIDS than White women and Latinas, respectively. NBLCA and its supporters will visit the offices of various Members of Congress on Feb. 10 to urge passage of the National Black Clergy for the Elimination of HIV/AIDS Act of 2009. They will hold a press conference at 2:30
p.m. in Room H137 of the Capitol Building that will include Rev. Butts as well as Rep. Charles Rangel (DNY) and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus. The National Black Clergy for the Elimination of HIV/AIDS Act of 2009 emerged out of a gathering in 2007 organized by NBLCA that brought together leaders from all over the country, particularly clergy, the National Medical Association, National Caucus of Black State Legislators, Congressional Black
Caucus Health Brain Trust, National Conference of Black Mayors, and World Conference of Mayors, to shape an agenda to fight HIV and AIDS. The Act was introduced as legislation last year by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY). "This is the first legislation to address HIV/AIDS in a comprehensive way, and although it reflects the wisdom and experience of health experts and community leaders, it is significant that Black clergy are leading the fight," said C. Is there a “Right” Way to Eat Fruit? by Dr Stephen Mak
gos p e l today |
We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It's not that easy. It's important to know how and when to eat fruit. What's the correct way to eat fruit? IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities. FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.
6
In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil. Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard
people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat! Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes - all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty stomach. There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic,
because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight. When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste. Cooking destroys all of the vitamins. Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!
Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancercausing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals. EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer. WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C & Potassium. GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.

Virginia Fields, President and CEO of NBLCA. "They have been at the forefront of so many campaigns to right injustices. In fact, I haven't seen this level of activism among Black clergy since the era of civil rights protests." Among other measures, H.R. 1964 calls for: • Voluntary, routine HIV testing as part of all health exams, including in emergency rooms, clinics and private physician offices; • The President to declare HIV/AIDS an epidemic in the Black community; • The federal department of Health and Human Services to make grants to public health agencies and faith-based
organizations to conduct outreach programs for HIV/AIDS testing and prevention; • The U.S. Health and Human Services Department to expand and intensify educational activities targeting Black women, youth and men having sex with men • A national media outreach program to urge testing for HIV and AIDS; and • A study of biological and behavioral factors that lead to higher rates of HIV and AIDS among Black Americans. gt For more information: CONTACT: Jerry Thomas Public Relations, Dan Holly (919) 448-8221, dan@jerrythomaspr.com; Jerry Thomas (312) 285-5166 jerry@jerrythomaspr.com.

HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they're asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Be careful, and be aware. The more we know, the better our chance to survive.
