at the Without Walls International Church (Tampa, FL), to take the reigns as senior pastor, she simultaneously assumed leadership of the megachurch in Tampa as well as the Carpenter’s Home Church (Lakeland, FL), and Paula White Media Ministries. It is a dream come true, but nonetheless, a dream that has been deferred. “About two months ago,” says Pastor Paula, “Randy called me and said he was having some health issues. He said that six medical doctors told him that he had to make some major lifestyle adjustments. He said that when he was before the Lord, God showed him me. He said, ‘Paula, I really want you to pray about taking the mantle and the mandate of being senior pastor of Without Walls, and overseeing the entire organization— Carpenter's Home Church (Lakeland, FL), Without Walls (Tampa, FL), and Paula White Media Ministries. “I went before the Lord. I fasted and prayed; and I sought counsel from my spiritual father, Bishop T. D. Jakes, and found a resounding, “yes!” “I am excited about the new opportunity. I recognize that there are challenges, but I realized that when I went to
without giants in the land, but God always allows me to see the size of the grapes! Thank God for spiritual eyes! That’s what allows us to put our hands to the plow and have a forward focus. “So, I’m looking forward to leading that congregation, and to helping lead individual lives in the direction of their destiny as well; and what I believe is the bigger plan and purpose of God in the earth—to bring forth a remnant of people in the earth to show forth who Christ is.” “I love people! I really do. A shepherd should smell like sheep. I’ve walked in all the offices; and I’ve seen God do some of everything; but there is nothing like the local church. I’m excited about the future. “A few months ago, God began to drill into my spirit ‘Turnaround season.’ I feel that for the body of Christ. I feel like the last quarter of this year is going to be that ‘Turnaround season’ for the body of Christ. I want to encourage people…don’t ever give up on your dream!” Read more in the upcoming issue of Gospel Today Magazine! gt

Son of Timothy Wright Takes Over His Father’s Church By Bishop Andy C. Lewter, D. Min. While the grief of losing Rev. Timothy Wright is still fresh in the minds of the thousands that loved and admired the gospel singer and pastor, news comes that his son David, 30, will succeed his father as pastor of the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn, New York. Long Island’s leading newspaper, Newsday, reported on Sunday, July 12, 2009 that according to family spokesman, Will Bogle, the church will hold a special service that will see the installation of David Wright as pastor of the Brooklyn congregation. Rev. Wright suffered paralysis as a result of a dreadful car accident that took place in July of 2008, claiming the life of his wife and grandson. Pastor Wright died after nearly a year of trying to recover from the wounds he
sustained in the automobile accident. According to The Daily News newspaper, the late Timothy Wright’s son David explained, "It's a big responsibility but my dad has prepared me for this. I was with him every day, learning from him, learning what not to do and what to do as far as the ministry. I feel God has equipped me for this," During the year after the accident, David attended to the details and administration of the church in his father’s absence. "I was very hesitant to do this, my hope was that [my dad] was coming back and that he would be healed," David Wright said. "But he said. 'You'll be fine' and I put my trust in his hands. The past year has made our family and the congregation stronger and I feel if we can go through what we went through, we can go through anything," he added. gt

During the month of June, Pastor Tamara Bennett (TIP Ministres, Sacramento, CA) led a 21-day prayer revival in Oakland, CA. “Considering the signs of the endtimes,” she explained, “the Lord is chastening and asking His church to come back to His fundamentals, which is winning souls,” said Pastor Bennett. “It is imperative for leaders today to teach the saints of God how to preserve their blessings; which is by giving. Not making finances the priority, but by stretching forth our hands to the poor, visiting the prisons, providing shelter to the homeless and seeing about the fatherless; doing all of this without government assistance.” Pastor Bennett has expanded her ministry to the Oakland area. “The 21 Day Revival in Oakland, CA was just an introduction of who we are and what we are about.” gt

They Murdered My Brother” Says LaToya Jackson By Bishop Andy C. Lewter, D. Min.
La Toya Jackson says, “I believe Michael was murdered!" Reportedly, Jackson says that there were fresh needle marks on the neck of Michael Jackson and that an intravenous drip was set up beside his bed with several canisters of oxygen were lined up against the wall. "Less than a month ago, I said I thought Michael was going to die before the London shows because he was surrounded by
people who didn't have his best interests at heart. she said. "I felt that from the start. Not just one person was involved, rather it was a conspiracy of people." says La Toya, 53, to the Daily Mail. La Toya also pointed out that one million dollars in cash and a rare collection of art was missing. Joining in the suspicions about Michael Jackson’s death is Joe Jackson, the father of the dead star. While many have paid little attention to his comments because of the classless promotion of his new record company in the immediate aftermath of Michael’s death, he continues to claim that he is convinced that there is some foul play attached to his son’s death. gt

Johnny Ray Youngblood Exits St. Paul By Bishop Andy C. Lewter, D. Min.
gos p e l today | j u l 1 3 , 2 0 0 9
On the last Sunday in June, the Rev. Johnny Ray Youngblood preached the 6 AM, 8 AM and 11 AM worship services; as he has done since 1974 at the St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. Few in the larger body of Christ realized the significance of those last sermons—his final official sermons as pastor. Youngblood is a product of New Orleans and a Spiritualist congregation that bestowed a license to preach upon him when he was only 12 years old. Eventually he would leave the Spiritualist Church and become a Baptist concluding his academic career at the Colgate-Rochester Seminary in upstate New York. As a protege of William Augustus Jones, pastor of the
6
prestigious Bethany Baptist Church of Brooklyn, Youngblood was asked to take the 84 member St. Paul Community Baptist. The church was in such bad shape that it had been described as one of God’s Alcatraz’s. After 35 years, Youngblood had built the church into a 10,000 member mega-church with an ambitious housing project, Nehemiah Project and a private day school with 180 students and a paid staff of over 50 person. Pastor Youngblood established a national reputation for offering a meaningful ministry to men and mentoring young pastors around the country. Unfortunately, many Black pastors continue until they die, or worse yet, retire and second guess the new pastor from the sidelines. Youngblood has been predicting his retirement for several years. In actuality, Youngblood remained just 5 days beyond his 61st birthday. He leaves to succeed him the Rev. David K. Brawley. Youngblood will not have to abruptly go from preaching three sermons a Sunday to no sermons. Several years ago Youngblood took the pastorate of a second church, the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn. He will remain there as pastor until the year 2011, at which time he has announced that he will complete his retirement in full. gt
