Central South formed a partnership with Lataillade (Vicki and Claude Lataillade), and Ruff Town Entertainment Group (Rene Moore)
For the past decade, most independent Gospel labels have seen the lion’s share of their sales come through Nashville-based Central South Distribution Company. Last week, Central South formed a partnership with Lataillade Entertainment, headed by independent contemporary gospel label/publishing/marketing guru Vicki Mack-Lataillade, and her husband, Claude Lataillade, and Ruff Town Entertainment Group, an entity founded by Grammy nominated and noted
songwriter/producer/recording artist Rene Moore. The multi-million dollar stock purchase marks a first for African Americans—ownership in a major music distribution company. The Lataillades and Moore will serve on Central South’s Board of Directors along with Randy Davidson, founder and CEO of Central South, Inc.; Chuck Adams, co-founder and President of Central South; and Greg Davidson, the company’s Vice-President of Finance. Bishop Thomas Weeks Announces Engagement! by Bishop Andy C. Lewter, D. Min. Proving that there can be life after divorce, Bishop Thomas Weeks is seemingly preparing to launch the next chapter in his life with a new bride. Recently, Bishop Weeks announced his engagement at his birthday party. Last September, Bishop Weeks announced a search for a new soul mate on his website that included 10 webisodes. According to Weeks, the idea came to him after he was flooded with thousands of emails and letters from people who wanted to advise him on what to look for in his next wife. “There were some very adamant women,” says Weeks associate, Minister Guy Reeves of Global Destiny. “A lady from Belgium flew all the way here to meet him. She came to the campus and wanted to be the next Mrs. Weeks; like many others who have approached me about their strong desire to be Bishop Weeks’ wife.” Now the search seems to be over. Prophetess Christina Glenn and Bishop Weeks recently posted on the wall of Prophetess Glenn. Bishop Thomas Weeks III: “I Love You and want to enjoy every moment we can spend together creating the life that is ‘Abundantly Kingdom!’ Love You More BTWIII P.S. Thanks for blessing my life in ways that the world will never be able to know...but God.. He knows:-))))” (Pictured above, l-r) Sybil Wilkes, Dr. Hairston, Dr. Joel Martin

President Obama Addresses NAACP 100th Anniversary

It is the 800-pound gorilla that stands in the room every time the President of the United States mounts a podium—he’s an African American. On this past Thursday, the obvious became the focus as President Obama spoke to the NAACP during their 100th year celebration. “I understand there may be a temptation among some to think that discrimination is no longer a problem in 2009,“ Obama said. “But make no mistake: The pain of discrimination is still felt in America.” President Obama made a point of asking members of the NAACP to look at problems with the economy, noting that Blacks are more likely to be victims of the plagues of our society. President Obama then went on to discuss some of the personal responsibilities that parents have to their children and the next generation. He encouraged parents to inspire their children to do great things. “They might think they’ve got a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good flow, but our kids can’t all aspire to be the next LeBron or Lil Wayne,” he said. “I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers, doctors and teachers, not just ballers and rappers. I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court justice. I want them aspiring to be president of the United States.” All of this is being said has caused questions and concerns about the relevancy of the NAACP. Yet, the president confesses that his own trek to the White
House would not have been possible independent of the work done by the NAACP over the last century. President Obama encouraged people, from all backgrounds, to continue the tradition of working together. “If three civil rights workers in Mississippi — black and white, Christian and Jew, city-born and country-bred — could lay down their lives in freedom’s cause, I know we can come together to face down the challenges of our own time,” he said. “We can fix our schools, heal our sick and rescue our youth from violence and despair.”

family owned business that has been based in Nashville, Tennessee, since its’ inception in 1970. It ranks #2 behind Sony/BMG/Provident/Integrity as the leading distributor of faith based music in the US. Over the past decade Central South built a chain of 90 retail stores that grossed $100 million in volume. The Lataillade’s are credited with birthing the most successful independent gospel label ever, Gospo Centric Records, which along with several other companies has generated over $100 million dollars. The groundbreaking alliance is not only a first in breaking racial barriers, but it also marks the first time an African American woman, Mack-Lataillade, and a recording artist, Moore, two of the industry’s leading artist development and content providers, will have a primary role with a leading distributor. The synergy of the principals is designed to convert Central South into a vertically integrated entity that can immediately monetize every aspect of consumer consumption for both secular and non-secular music. “The paradigm for the way contemporary music is sold on the retail level is in a constant state of flux and is extremely challenging at the moment,” noted Davidson. “The merger with Lataillade Entertainment and Ruff Town Entertainment Group is a natural progression for

Central South, and we’re confident that the vast experience and expertise of our unparalleled management team will help us to further secure and expand our dominant market share.” “This is really a dream come true,” remarked Vicki Mack-Lataillade. “We weren’t able to truly control or influence our distribution model with our previous record labels. Our relationship with Central South gives us a chance to be more than just aggregators of content. We’ll be able to fully exploit and utilize our creativity and marketing savvy, and offer artists a full range of services, from coaching to formulating effective business/marketing strategies. Artists will have the opportunity to make not only music products available, but music related products as well.” Vicki Mack Lataillade along with her husband Claude, built Gospo Centric Records, the imprint they formed in 1993, and B-Rite Music, which was formed in 1994. In a 13-year span Gospo Centric built a diverse and commercially viable artist roster inclusive of: Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, Tramaine Hawkins, Byron Cage, David Hollister, Kelly Price, Reggae legend Papa San, and Trin-I-tee 5:7, Central South’s primary offices will remain in Nashville.
