LET US GROW TOGETHER
40 DAY DEVOTIONAL Greetings Beloved! It is with much joy and anticipation that I present this devotional study booklet to each of you – “Let Us Grow Together!” I am ever thankful and grateful to God that He has allowed me the opportunity to share with you these daily devotionals. I am also thankful to our Pastor, Bishop Andy C. Lewter for inspiring and entrusting me to develop this work. Inside you will find thought provoking questions to stir you to dig deeper in your faith walk, prayers to guide in your conversation with God and daily scripture readings to enrich your spirit. This booklet can be used during the Lenten Season, which is a time of fasting, praying and meditating on His Word, or at anytime we seek to draw closer to God. Written in support of our 21-point – “The Queens Ministry Vision Statements”, these devotionals, I believe, will help push us to the next level in our walk of discipleship and our commitment to each other. I want to encourage you to feast on His Word, to enjoy and be filled; may we find like the Psalmists that His Words “are sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb!” Let us take time out of our busy schedule to spend a few quiet, reflective moments in His presence. It is my heart’s desire and prayer that you will find this devotional booklet a rewarding experience. I do hope you will take this 40-day journey and be blessed! Love, Elder Mary Ellis

Day 2 “Serve With Enthusiasm” And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3: 23-24
Are you passionate about your service; are you serving with enthusiasm? How do you show your passion? Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the King! (NIV) Serve Him with passion and enthusiasm – labor in the joy of the Lord. He has something great waiting for you! Prayer - Dear Lord, help me to serve you with a passionate spirit. May I serve you with my whole heart and come to know the excitement and joy of working for the King.

Day 3 “Follow the Leader” And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you; and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. 1 Thess. 5:12- 13
Think about it – what are the characteristics of a good follower? Am I exhibiting them? Honor those that the Lord has placed over you – for they watch out for your very soul. Pray for them, support them and uphold them- reserve criticism and judgment. Follow them as they follow Christ. Prayer- Heavenly Father, I thank you for the leaders you have placed in my life to assist with my spiritual journey. I pray for them that you may use them to effectively lead others to You. Help me to be a follower who recognizes, appreciates, and respects their efforts.

Day 4 “Marks of a Good Leader” Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? Luke 6:39
Am I leading with love; is my leadership selfserving or God-serving? What can I change? Don’t take advantage because of your position, show forth godly wisdom and understanding in leading others. Lead by example; take caution not to “lord over those entrusted to you”. Continue to exhibit characteristics in line with the Word of God. (Read 1 Tim 3; Titus 2; 1 Peter 5: 1-6 to further enhance your study of godly leadership qualities) Prayer- Dear Lord I pray that I may be a leader who seeks to lead with love and understanding. Exhibiting godly characteristics that others may desire to emulate; and whose guidance they can trust.

Day 5 “Brand New!” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Am I showing my newness? Put off those things that will cause you to look like your former self. Put on the new man – who is created in Christ Jesus. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering… but above all these things put on love.” (Col. 3:12-14) The Holy Spirit is the source of your new life so keep in step with His leading. Prayer-Merciful God our Father, I thank you that you have allowed me to become a new creation. Help me to show forth the newness that is found in You; May my actions and behavior line up with the brand new me in Christ.

Day 6 “I’ve Got to Tell Somebody!” Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. Matt. 28:19-20
Have I shared my faith with anyone? “The woman at the well, then left her water pot, went her way into the city and said to the men; Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did – Could this be the Christ?” (John 4:2829) As we examine the wonderful model of this early witness – let us follow her example and go, run and tell somebody! Prayer-Lord, help me to embrace your command, to be a witness; to share the good news with others, to tell about your love, mercy and saving grace and the difference you can make in our lives.

Day 7 “In Praise of His Glory!” The Heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalms 19:1
In what ways do I give reverence and glory to God? The heavens declare your glory – Oh Lord! As the writer of this Psalms proclaims, God is awesome! He is a great, great God! Take a moment - look around and see, the wonders of His hand, the beauty of His creation, the glory of His mighty acts; stand in awe of His presence. “The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice!” (Ps. 97:1) Prayer- Mighty God, our Creator - help me to see how great and awesome You are. Open my eyes that I may view the wonders of your works. That I may join with the heavenly host and stand in praise of your glory.

Day 8 “Yes! We Are In A Battle!” Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and the in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6: 10 -13
Are you dressed for battle; for the spiritual warfare waged against the believer? The writer of Ephesians admonishes the reader to put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the evil one, against the enemy who plots and plans our defeat. Our fight is a spiritual one, and spiritual warfare requires spiritual weapons with divine power – which the Apostle Paul encourages the believer to readily deploy and use. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Cor. 10:4 (NIV) Prayer – Dear God may I be dressed for battle against the one who seeks to destroy; to know that I have strength to fight because of You. Help me to know that I am victorious because of your power and might, and that I can be divinely equipped for warfare.

Day 9 “On Display!” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, selfcontrol. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22
What happens when we choose to live God’s way – to display more of the nature of Christ? The believer’s temperament should be guided by the Spirit. The Word of God readily points us toward the godly characteristics that should be on display in our lives. The Fruit of the Spirit is the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the believer – producing more of the nature of Christ as we yield ourselves to Him. To some, you may be the only Bible they may read. (Read 2 Peter 1: 5-8 for additional fruitful qualities of Christian character) Prayer – Lord, may I be filled with Your Spirit – to show forth more of your characteristics and qualities. Produce in me O Lord, more of the nature of Christ that I may be known as one of yours.

Day 10 “He’s In Your Corner!” For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29: 11 (NIV)
Are there times that you feel lost, abandon, or out of place? Even though it may seem that you are in a dead place or dead-end, don’t despair. God has not forgotten you! He has thoughts that He thinks toward you, thoughts of peace and not evil, thoughts of a hope-filled future; and after a time, He will revive and restore. Prayer- Lord I thank you for never leaving or forsaking me. I thank you that you have thoughts of a future for me; that as I pray - you will hear me and come and visit. Thank you that in due seasons you will perform your good works toward me. Help me to wait on you with expectancy!

Day 11 “A Blueprint for Success!” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5 -6
What standards are you using for success; are you following His blueprint? Healthy, wealthy and wise! “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health; your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give Him the first and the best!” (The Message Bible) Prayer- Lord, help me to take account of my living – to acknowledge and trust you in all my ways. Yes, teach me O Lord to lean on your understanding and wisdom; teach me to live wisely and well.

Day 12 “Our Handle on what we Can’t See!” (The Message Bible) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Are you exercising faith? Faith, the essential ingredient in the believer’s life! For without it is impossible to please God! Faith says I can’t see, but I will trust and believe. As with any repetitive action of the body’s muscle – Faith too gets stronger with use. Put it into practice; exercise your faith in God – have faith in the One that is able to do abundantly, above all we could ask or think! Is there anything too hard for God?! Prayer- Dear heavenly Father, help me not to doubt but to trust and believe in your power and might. Help me Lord to practice my faith in you, the Great I Am; the Ruler over all, my Provider.

Day 13 “The Shepherd’s Voice” But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. John 10: 2-4
Whose voice are you listening to? Who are the sheep of God – those that believe and obey His commands! He knows His sheep, each one by name and they hear Him and follow after Him - The Good Shepherd. He protects, watches over and leads them in a path of righteousness and safety. Yet the sheep will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of stranger. (Read more about the Good Shepherd in John 10) Prayer-Lord may I hear you when you speak and follow as you lead. Help me to remember that you love and care for me and that you even know my name. O Lord, lead me and guide me along the way.

Day 14 “Shall I Worship!” Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty; Who was and is and is to come! Revelation 4:8
Have I given thought of my worship? The Westminster Shorter Catechism asks, “What is the chief end of man?” The response: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Created for worship – to show forth love and adoration! May you give your worship to the One whom it rightly belongs! “You are worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (Rev. 4:11) Prayer – Most gracious and everlasting God our Father, our Creator, may our intense love and admiration for who you are pour out in our worship. For you are worthy to receive all glory and all honor and all praise.

Day 15 “Yet Praise!” Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls— Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation! Habakkuk 3:17- 18
Is there an in-spite of praise today; a praise on my lips, no matter my circumstances? It is easier to praise Him when all is going well! But can you praise Him when you’re going through? As the Prophet Habakkuk has shared – even when things are out of sync and upside down. In spite of all that you may be going through, will you rejoice in the Lord? The offering of praise takes our focus off of ourselves and our surroundings and places it on God, who is richly deserving of all praise. For, having joy in God never goes out of season! Rejoice as the writer of Psalms 34: “I will Bless the Lord at all times!” Prayer – Dear Lord, help me to praise you even when circumstances, situations, and the voice of others say otherwise! Help me Lord to have joy in praising you in spite of what my surroundings may look like.

Day 16 “Purpose” In whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind? Proverbs 12:10
How do we know our purpose? Webster’s dictionary states the definition of purpose as: “The intent; the object for which something exists or is done.” There is purpose in each one of us. A design for our living! Do you know your purpose; it has been cautioned that if you don’t know the purpose of a thing- you may abuse or misuse it! Scripture traces purpose back to God the Father. Seek and follow the will of the Designer, Manufacturer, Creator of all; He knows the intent placed in each one of us. Prayer – Dear Lord, I thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. For you have formed my inward parts; you have shaped me in my mother’s womb. Help me to follow your plan for my life and do what you designed it to do!

Day 17 “Forgive” Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him; up to seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22
How many times should I forgive my brother or sister? We cannot put a number on forgiveness! Forgiving others who trespass against us should be the normal – even though most times it is difficult- make-up of the believer. “Seventy times seven!” – means we shouldn’t keep track and should seek to reconcile and forgive those who come with a repentant heart. Look at our example to follow, Jesus hanging on Calvary’s Cross ushered in these profound words; “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34) Freely you receive – freely you should give. Prayer- Father, help me to forgive others that I perceive to do me wrong. Help me to follow your great example of overcoming those who hurt and do harm. Help me to recognize your willingness to forgive all, even me.

Day 18 “My Best!” Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and the satrap, because of an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. Daniel 6:3
Am I giving my all – my best? Christians may not be “perfect” but we should always strive to do our very best. Think about it – Am I exceeding expectations or giving a mediocre performance. Daniel distinguished himself from the others even in the presence of unbelievers. Like Daniel, would excellence come to mind if others were to describe your work? Sometimes, we may have to go the extra mile, do more than asked, and take the extra steps. But remember, do all by His Spirit and to His glory; “that others may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” “If there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Phil 4:8 ESV) Prayer- Dear Lord, help me to give my best to You; to serve with a spirit of love and excellence. I pray that I be found faithful in my service – as I strive to work more diligently and responsibly.

Day 19 “R.E.S.P.E.C.T!” Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:6
How do I answer and treat others? A noted African-American singer made famous these words: “Respect! Find out what it means to me!” We all want respect and just as important, we all need to give it! Let’s be mindful how we treat others, the Word of God encourages believers to get along with one another – to live peaceably and lovingly as co-laborers. Jesus issued this directive: “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” (Luke 6:31) Let’s follow the “Golden Rule” in our speech and behavior. Prayer- Father, guide me in my walk with others, that I may be gracious in speech and manners. That I may show respect to all, and learn to honor others.

Day 20 “Pray for Us!” Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercession, and giving of thanks be made for all men. 1Timothy 2:1
Are we doing what Scriptures encourage us to do; to pray for one another? The Apostle Paul writes that we should pray – and that we should pray with all types of prayers, for all people. Jesus dared to say – pray for your enemies also. We’re all in need of prayer! May our prayers move from Lord bless me and mine, to include others and that we become motivated by love to intercede on their behalf, to bear one another’s burdens. As Paul encouraged the first century Christians to “pray for us” – let us be found effectively fulfilling this call. Prayer- Lord, I thank you for the instrument of prayer. I thank you that I am able to communicate not only my needs, but the needs of others to You; may I begin to see the importance and great benefit of praying for and interceding on the behalf of all.

Day 21 “The Lord is Faithful” Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion fail not, they are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
Have you experienced His faithfulness? How? Great is the Lord’s Faithfulness – for it is beyond measure – for it reaches to the skies (Ps 36:5) Webster’s New World Dictionary defines faithfulness as being loyal, conscientious, accurate and reliable – elements of character we definitely see in God. It also states that faithfulness is the quality of steadfast loyalty or firm adherences to promises. In other words if God said it – you can believe He will do it! Scriptures speak of the unwavering faithfulness of God, in showing mercy, love, forgiveness, compassion and covenant keeping, which we ought to recognize, proclaim, and celebrate. Prayer- Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your great compassion and love. It is because of your tender mercies granted daily that I am not destroyed. Thank you for being steadfast, unchanging and faithful in your love towards me.

Day 22 “Real Love!” Let love be without hypocrisy…Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love. Romans 12: 9-10
Am I practicing real love? “My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18) The Message Bible says it with these words: “let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love!” We are cautioned not to see the need of our brothers or sisters and not respond with the love of God. One of the real tests of our love for God is how we treat others. For we are known to belong to Him by the love we show. “And this commandment we have from Him; that he who loves God must love his brother also.” (John 4:18) Prayer- Dear God, may I show forth the love you command. Help me to love without pretense, to be sincere in my actions and speech. Your Word says that if we love one another, that you abide in us and we in You; help me to walk in love.

Day 23 “I Can’t Help but to Praise Him!” Oh come; let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms, for the Lord is the great God. Psalms 95: 1-3a
How do you respond when you think of the goodness of the Lord? Throughout the book of Psalms God is given praise and glory for His mighty works. Often the writers would remark: “When I think of how good the Lord has been I can’t help but give Him praise. Over and over again He has poured out His blessings. If it had not been for His goodness – where would we be?!” What is your response when you recount His goodness – does your heart rejoice and your spirit leap for joy? Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so! Prayer-Mighty God, we thank you for your goodness. We thank you for all you have done. We can’t help but give you praise for all your loving-kindness and wonderful blessings. We praise your Holy Name!

How does my church promote unity? Unity is important! A well-known songwriter says it so simply and profoundly – “I need you, you need me, we’re all a part of God’s family.” You and I – together we can do great works for His kingdom. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Ps 133:1) Join in; become a part of the work ministry, evident in the life of the church- connect to Christ, connect to others. Day 25 “Do Good!” And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Colossians 3:17
In what ways can I show forth charitable acts? Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. – 1Timothy 6:17-19 Even if we don’t have the riches described here, we still can be rich in doing good works; no matter our economic standing, we have something to share with someone. God blesses us in order for us to bless others. Prayer- Merciful God our Lord, out of my abundance of blessings, may I show forth a willingness to give unto others. Teach me to do good! For we are members of His body! And the fellowship between the Father and Son is also shared amongst those who love Him and are called His children. Beloved, “Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us (come together to) encourage one another.” (Heb 10:25a NIV) Prayer- Dear Heavenly Father I thank you, that it is through Your Son I am able to call you Father, and that I am a part of your family. When there is trouble, or calamity all around, the righteous, the saints of the Most of High God have a place of protection and security. Prove me now and see says the Lord; “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing!” Give and it shall be given unto you! When we come to Him with a contrite and repentant heart – He forgives us, cleanses us and restores us. Read the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15) and see how we have such a gracious and loving Father, who is willing to welcome us back into the fold, into His loving arms. God is willing and able to give us a second, a third, a fourth; another chance to be restored. Prayer- Thank you Lord for allowing me another chance; for restoring the joy of your salvation. Day 30 “Stir Up the Gift!” “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that if given you, let us use them!” Romans 12:6
Do you desire to do more? The Apostle Paul also shares with us in the 4th chapter of Ephesians –“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ gift.” To each one of us, as believers, God has graciously given us different gifts so that we can build up His church. There are variety of gifts, given by the Spirit as He wills and purposes. Seek to know the gift deposited in you for service unto others; for the edification of the Body of Christ and for His glory. Prayer- Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your gracious gifts that you have given; I desire and seek to know the ways I can contribute and effectively use these gifts, however large or small they may seem, in your service.

Day 31 “Let Us Pray!” “Lord, teach us to pray - In this manner, therefore, pray!” Luke 11:1; Matthew 6:9
Have you communicated with Him today? In response to the disciples’ petition, Jesus shares a great example of praying to the Father; the believers, “Model Prayer.” What is prayer – it is communication with God. It is the opening of our heart in conversation with Him; it is the expression of our relationship. Prayer is a component of the believers’ weaponry; use it! It grows stronger and more disciplined with practice. (Read Matthew 6: 5-14 for further insight on the Model Prayer) Prayer-Dear Lord, may I seek you continually for the strength and guidance I need. May I follow the example you set in your Word of talking to the Father, daily. Dear Lord, teach me how to pray.

Day 32 “A Pat on the Back!” “He has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.” Isaiah 50:4a
Is there a word of encouragement to offer? Sometimes, we all need a boost to get back into high spirits. Sometimes we all need an encouraging word, a loving smile, or a “pat on the back,” to let us know we are appreciated. Look

Day 33 “A Fork in the Road!” “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you!” 1 Peter 5:7
Will our cares and difficulties drive us to or away from God? As believers, when we face seemingly insurmountable difficulties or challenges, we have a choice; we can take them to the Lord in prayer, or try and handle them alone. But let us always remember that in our hard times and struggles, it is always better to run to God and not from Him. Don’t despair, have confidence in His ability to help us in all situations. Know this, that during the storms of life – it’s better to be in the boat with Jesus, than alone on the stormy seas! Prayer- Dear Lord I thank you for your loving kindness and compassion, that you are willing to help me in my time of need. Help me to come to you with all my cares and concerns, to have confidence in your ability to save and deliver.

Day 34 “Be Diligent in Your Studies!” “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Why read or study the Bible? Good question! The answer(s) in part, along with the above admonition; “Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32 (RSV) “Don’t stop reading this book of the Law, but day and night think of what it says, so you can be careful to do everything written in it; then you will prosper and succeed.” Joshua 1:8 (BECK)

Day 35 “Active Participation!” “But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good!” 2 Thessalonians 3:13
Are you committed and involved in the life of the church? Headline in a local Christian newsletter could read: ‘Volunteers Needed! -Looking for a few good men / women, young and old, to become actively involved in the Local Church!’ Think about it -Where can you serve? We are cautioned in scriptures against being idle and not participating. Is there something going on in your local assembly – join in, if not, are you the right person to start it! Be committed in seeing your church not only survive, but to thrive! Be not weary in doing well. Prayer- Dear Lord, help me to be an active participant in the life of the church. Day 36 “The Spirit of Martha!” “Distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.” Romans 12:13
How can I show hospitality? “Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.” This familiar verse in the book of Luke speaks of the hospitality of Martha, a highly esteemed practice during Jesus’ day. And even though we are cautioned not to go to the “extremes” in being hospitable, we should all show some of Martha’s character and welcome all that enter our doors with kindness and hospitality. Hospitality should not be left for select, committee members, but to each of us. Prayer-Thank You Lord, that I am able to be a blessing to the saints by being hospitable. Help me to show forth kindness and consideration to others, as I welcome them into your house.

Day 37 “Never Alone!” “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you!” Heb 13:5b
Are you trusting in His guarantee? “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you, during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you!” (“Footprints in the Sand” Poem by Mary Stevenson) The believer has God’s guarantee of His presence, protection and provision. We are not alone in our good times as well as our bad. He promises never to leave us, never to leave us alone. He walks with us every step of the way. Trust Him today. Prayer- Heavenly Father, help me to trust You. To have faith to believe that you will never leave me nor forsake me. Help to know that I can count on you to be there in every area and circumstance in my life.

Day 38 “The Greatest Gift!” “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Have you accepted His plan of Salvation? He loved us so very much that He gave His very best – His Son, Jesus. He didn’t wait for us to get it together, to be perfect, before giving us His all; but while we were yet sinners – Christ died for us. 1 Peter 3: 18 tells us- “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” We are forgiven, not for what we did, but because of His sacrifice on the Cross. We didn’t deserve it – but thanks be to God, He gave of Himself willingly; He paid the penalty. Prayer-Thank you Lord for your gift of salvation. Thank you, that I can have eternal life with you by believing in the sacrificial, dying love of your Son, Jesus the Christ. Thank you that I am forgiven, because He paid the penalty in my place.

Day 39 “In the Garden” “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw beyond them and He knelt down and prayed.” Luke 22:41 (NIV)
Am I willing to do it His way? Reading this passage of scripture and the prayer of John 17 allows us to take a peek behind the curtain of time and get glimpse of the relationship of Jesus and the Father. Scripture points out repeatedly- Jesus’ commitment and dedication to communicating with the Father in prayer. It also shows us that He understands our needs and desires, having exposed some of His own. Let’s follow His example and seek the Father not only in our time of need, but earnestly desire to keep a direct line of communication open like Jesus did. Likewise, let us learn to submit to His will, even when it’s difficult or painful. Prayer- Dear Father, teach me how to trust You. Teach me how to submit to your will even when I desire to do it differently. Help me to follow Jesus’ example and allow your will to be done.

Day 40 “Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness!” “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth and He adds no trouble to it!” Proverbs 10:22 (NIV)
Am I seeking riches in the right manner? Many of us seek to be prosperous. There is no thought against it, but we are cautioned to seek wealth and prosperity in the right manner. Ill-gotten gains, causes anguish and trouble. God hates a liar and deceiver; and speaks against the unjust and unfair practice of all. Proverbs 13:11 says: “Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase.” Commit your way to the Lord and allow Him to direct your steps; deal honestly with others and be generous. Prayer- Dear Father, help me to be honest and truthful in my dealing with others; help me not to seek after riches that will cause harm to myself or others. Guide my ways and help me to seek godly counsel.
