s we get excited about the next step in our life, we must be getting ready for it. And you know what that means. . . the dreadful packing. But have no fear, we are here to help you make sure you pack everything you’ll need. It’s obvious for some things you’ll need such as every day clothing items or notebooks and pencils, but a couple of these things might slip your mind:

1. Plastic dishes / utensils -

There will be dishes and utensils at your dining hall but packing these will let you bring leftovers from home or buy your food because surprisingly, you’ll most likely get tired of dining court food. 2. Headphones - Headphones are a great way to block out noise when studying or if you want to use them to binge watch Netflix while your roommate is trying to sleep. 3. A power strip - This helps plug in multiple things at once in your small dorm room that may not have many plugs to begin with. This way you won’t have to crawl behind your desk every time to plug in your laptop charger.

4. Cleaning supplies / garbage bags - You’ll have trash to throw away more than you think plus your mom isn’t

there to clean your room so bringing garbage bags and cleaning supplies can make your dorm room a little nicer (especially if your family will be coming that weekend and you need to pick up around the room). 5. Overnight bag - When you decide you miss your family and want to come for the weekend, instead of having to drag a huge suitcase home, a small overnight bag is the perfect way to bring home all your essentials to survive the weekend. 6. Shower shoes - To everyone’s knowledge, college dorm bathrooms may not have the cleanest shower floors. So to avoid getting some type of bacteria on your feet, wearing cheap flip flops in the shower may help prevent these diseases. 7. First-aid kit - Your dorm advisor will most likely have one of these but for a quick bandaid, a kit full of them with medicine will not go to waste.

TM Wednesday, May 18, 2016 The last four years have contained a lot of excitement for the Class of 2016. In order to capture the individual moments and people that have made our time at Chatard so special, graduating seniors were asked to summarize their Chatard experience through these questions. TM Emma Kinghorn

What was the most stressful time for you here in the last four years?

Emily Smith | Trojan Matters

“First semester senior year, because of the college process. It was stressful visiting colleges and applying, then finally deciding on one school to go to.” Kristen Battiato

“Junior year, because I had a concussion and the hardest classes that I have taken at Chatard.” Lily Bardol

Why do you love being a Trojan?

“The amount of involvement you have in extracurricular activities.” Joe Compton

“Maturity and staying loose and looking forward to great opportunities in college.” John Mason

How would you describe freshman year? “A weird transition of not exactly feeling like a ‘high schooler,’ yet not being a middle schooler anymore.” Kelly Barnes

“I was definitely a kiss up because I didn’t want any of the older students to hate me.” Caroline Metzger

What is one memory you have from sophomore year? “My very first day sophomore year in Mr. McNally’s chemistry class I broke a beaker. I was terrified.” Claire

“Sophomore year I was afraid of heights and on retreat I wasn’t going to go on high ropes, but made myself go up.” Sami Katra

What has been the best moment of your high school career? “Any Friday night that I got to play football.” Charlie 2 Sexauer

“Singing a solo in an a capella choir performance at the talent show last year.” Grace Gore

“Because I bleed blue.” Steve Rayl

What do you think is unique about the “We are all leaders in our Class of 2016? own unique way whether it’s “I think we just have a lot of love for each other.” Sarah Pendleton

What adult has influenced you the most? “Mrs. Gaffney and Mrs. Brogan have been huge influences on me by providing academic knowledge and love that a family would.” Riley “Mr. Mayer. He has always inspired me to use my talents and be proud of them. He’s helped me get more confidence in myself.” Alice Joson

on the field, sidelines, grandstand, stage, classroom or community.” Ann Marie Matheny

Emily Smith | Trojan Matters

What is the biggest difference between freshman and senior year?

“I love being a Trojan because of all the people who identify as Trojans. Maybe that sounds redundant. But to be a Trojan is to be a family.”

Seniors celebrate a touchdown at Lucas Oil Stadium during the 3A State Football finals. The Trojans won 31-7 against the West Lafayette Red Devils.

Dear Class of 2016, Momma, we made it. It was a long ride, but here we are about to walk across the stage to receive our diplomas. column by Cecelia For some it was easy to get, but for others, it took countless hours of procrastination with little motivation other than the fact we wouldn’t be able to go to our dream school. We made memories and friends along the way that have made us laugh and cry. Not only did we make it up the totem poll of being seniors and feeling like we could do anything, but we always made it up those exhausting staircases. We complained sometimes; the teachers and administration might say a lot, but look at where we are now. We complained about more things than others like scrAPE(my eyes out)S and senior privileges, but we did it all with good intentions. Now, it’s almost graduation and we need to appreciate all we were given over the past four years here at BCHS. We were given advice from peers and teachers. We were . . .you go to prom

. . .you officially decide on a college

given homework and tests. We were given BCHS cookies. What more could we ask for? As I hit Stage 4 of senior year, I look back at what all we have done as a class. We were the first freshmen class to have iPads. We were, at the time, the biggest class to ever walk the halls at 205 people but now we are down to 186 (shout out fallen Trojans and new Trojans). We were the first class to be mentors to freshmen. We were the first class to win the state spirit award! Shout out Dave Calabro! We love you! Our class is filled with talented and unique people that I know will go on to become unbelievable people. Some might become CEOs; others will be in Hollywood living their dream. Others might be traveling to other countries bringing out their wanderlust. Some might even come back to teach here. But one thing that is for certain is that we will know our roots and who have shaped us here at BCHS. Don’t forget the people you’ve met and the memories you’ve made. You’ve been good to us Chatard. Until we meet again. . . .you post a “senior sunday”

TM Wednesday, May 18, 2016 From the desk of the 2013 alumni:

5 things to do when you get to college “Take an unplanned road trip with friends during dead week or finals week! We went camping for a night to get away from the stress of school and relax a bit. Something of this nature and timing is needed to keep a fresh mind and recharge before you hammer down for your finals!”

-Patrick Ciresi, Purdue University “Summers are part of college too! After my sophomore year, I decided I wanted to take an adventure. I applied to be a camp counselor at some random camp in Maine that I found via Google... It was the hardest and most fun job I have ever had. I saw some incredible nature (Maine is beautiful), met amazing friends from around the world, and learned a lot from my campers. There's only a few summers you will have the opportunity to try something out of your comfort zone, so make sure to take advantage of it while you can!”

-Claire Schapker, Indiana University TM

Emma Kinghorn

“I would definitely say put study abroad on your collegiate bucket list if you have the opportunity. I’m currently studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain, and it has been my absolute favorite four months.”

-Mary Stonner, Indiana University “One thing I have done in my college experience is taken my photography and media interest and turned it into a business. I currently am a producer for a talk show at my school in Atlanta and I have a photography company.”

-Chris Covington, Morehouse College “(Some) significant events I have been involved in were ROTC, Operations and Supply Chain Management club, Delta Sigma Pi, IUPUI Top 100, rower in the IUPUI Regatta, Honor College Peer mentoring and Jagathon (Dance Marathon).”

-Kurt Oldiges, IUPUI
