INTRODUCTION

CHAPLAIN

READING Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 For everything that happens in life—there is a season, a right time for everything under heaven: A time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, a time to harvest; A time to kill, a time to heal; a time to tear down, a time to build up; A time to cry, a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance; A time to scatter stones, a time to pile them up; a time for a warm embrace, a time for keeping your distance; A time to search, a time to give up as lost; a time to keep, a time to throw out; A time to tear apart, a time to bind together; a time to be quiet, a time to speak up; A time to love, a time to hate; a time to go to war, a time to make peace. “IN FLANDERS FIELDS” BY JOHN JACOBSON & ROGER EMERSON.

HEAD PREFECTS

U6TH CHOIR

LED BY THE CHAPLAIN

Please stand CHAPLAIN: Let us remember before God those who have died in war; those whom we knew, and whose memory we treasure; and all who have lived and died in the service of mankind. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. All: We will remember them. LAST POST There follows two minutes of silence

Please be seated PRAYERS For the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, And all those who grieve for the loss of loved ones We especially remember the family of Hugh Talbott, former Naval and Bishop’s Stortford College Chaplain, who sadly passed away in recent days. For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; May God give peace Response: God give peace For civilians whose lives are disfigured by war or terror,; For peace-makers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; And for all who bear the burden of leadership who need wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace. May God give peace Response: God give peace O God of truth and justice, Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and forever. Amen. We say together the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

Let us pledge ourselves anew to the service of God and our fellow men, that we may be peacemakers in our homes, in our community, in our country and in our world. All: Lord God, we pledge ourselves to serve you and all mankind in the cause of peace and for the relief of want and suffering. Give us wisdom; give us courage; give us hope; and keep us always faithful. Amen.
