This is our fourth and final update with the Anderson family. From beginning to end, here’s an exclusive look into what it takes to build a dream home.
RIVER + RANCH MAGAZINE | FOUNDATION TO FINISH
The Anderson family is finally home and it’s time to move in! “We are excited to share the home with our friends, family and clients. Showing them our work, that was the whole point,” says Kari. As a part of this experience, Kari is so excited and eager to be able to finally share the results. Kari explained, “I’m excited for my kitchen. I wanted a space where I could interact with people throughout the kitchen, living room and dining room. I love to entertain, I like our house to be the home that people come to.”

As for Jordan, he is most excited about the fact that Big River Builders office can be accessed from a separate entrance beside the garage and also has access into the home for when they want to show off their masterpiece. “I can finally feel now, walking through, how functional this home will be for our business and our family, says Jordan.

“It turned out better than I could have ever expected. I finally have the home that I have always had in my mind. My job is to design homes for everyone else but I got to do it for myself this time. I am forever thankful for that,” says Kari.

“With the furniture, Kari told me what she was envisioning. I narrowed it down to certain pieces, emailed images to Kari and Mary Kay and we would pick together, making it very simple and a smooth process.” – Nathan Pedersen, Bismarck Furniture Guy at Zimmerman’s
“Kari’s style is a mix of farmhouse, costal and glamourous. She and I did a lot of shopping for the pictures, pillows, etc together to tie everything in.” – Mary Kay Lapp, Owner, 11th Ave Interiors
“Countertops are one of the hardest thing in a home to pick, “The best situation is when the customer brings in cabinet,

what she wanted so that helped a lot.” – Elizabeth Hymer (right), Office Manager, Precision Tops
“For this home Kari wanted windows where she could have an unobstructed view out the back to the water but keep the front looking complete with grills. The home is complete with sliding and French doors making for easy access to the water.” – Ken Huber, Territorial Sales Representative, Pella Windows
“We are all about making the home more efficient. This home is full of LED lights to help with the energy efficiency. We layed the home out for the best placement of fixtures so they have the correct amount of lighting for each space.” – Eric Budd, Owner, Milestone Electric
“Coldspring provided all the stone for the outside of the home. We looked at about 10 samples of stone with cool grey tones to match the blue siding. Then we picked the sill with an accenting charcoal color to bring it all together.” – Reid Kubesh, Sales Manager, Coldspring
“Jordan brought in the house plans and we designed the duct work to determine the size of the furnace and air conditioning. This home has two furnaces and two air conditioning units. There are three different zones for temperature control in the home.” – Mark Froelich, Salesman, Bismarck Heating & Air
Continuing from page 14. It took longer to design the home than actually build it because of the unique design aspects of the home. The Anderson’s knew this was going to be their family’s home and not anyone else’s. “The home didn’t come together overnight,” Kari said. “We didn’t want any room to just be a space. For example, the steps, trim and wainscoting took 80 hours alone at the front entrance. Jordan did a lot of the labor himself, including framing the home, the front entryway, and the deck. “I love it, and it’s what we do. It feels that much more gratifying now that we live here,” Jordan says, “on to the next!”

This build gave Jordan and Kari some perspective on what their clients go through when they are helping them design and build a home. “When working with a client it is so easy for me to just tell them what to do but for my own home, I would lay awake at night, says Kari.

Jordan added, “Even though this isn’t the first time we have built a home for ourselves, it definitely helps us empathize with our clients and what they go through.” Committing to building a home is extremely time consuming but the Anderson’s and their team at Big River Builders work hard to take on the brunt of things.

creage is hard to find without going some distance outside of town, but the homeowners of this lovely estate found the best of both worlds. “From the beginning, my
dream was to have a ton of land for horses, but I did not want to live far from town, and we found it,” says the homeowner. The family of four has 40 acres of land in east Bismarck. The property includes a pool and pool house, stable and shop, and let’s not forget two beautiful horses, a beloved German Shepard and three cats.

“The white and yellow umbrellas remind me of when my husband and I went to southern France and there were these yellow and white canopies everywhere. Now every time I see them I am brought back to that time and memory,” says the wife.
“Myhre Concrete did the concrete around the pool, the homeowners wanted an ivory color stamped concrete. It took us, Jason and Myhre Concrete a week or two to work on samples in order to perfect the color for the homeowner. That was something that we had never done before to this extent,” explains Jared Winters with Next 2 Nature. 28

t all started in 1996 when the family bought the property and started planting thirteen thousand trees at only
six inches high around the entire acreage. Four years after purchasing the land they built their dream home, but the dream did not stop there. The family wanted a place for their children and friends to all be together and enjoy. The patio kitchen, pool, and pool house were next on the bucket list.

he homeowners had a very specific vision of what they wanted for their outdoor oasis. From patio furniture to pool covers they had a wish.
Backyard Escapes, Next 2 Nature, Coldspring and Myhre Concrete all helped their dream become a reality. Over the past year the homeowners and subcontractors worked together to create a backyard haven. “We feel like our home is our sanctuary, that is what we have tried to create. We love to entertain, we have hosted a ton of parties out here; it’s a great gathering place,” remarked the homeowner. 2D (left) and 3D (below) images are used to better visualize the final project.

unique aspect about the Schmidt pool, is their pool cover. Although it is not recommended, the cover can hold six

After researching the regulations on pools, pool covers, and discussing it with Jason, he found us a pool cover that met all the safety regulations to not have a fence,” says Kristi.

Myhre Concrete Design CR E ATIV ITY IN CO NCR E TE Who is Myhre Concrete Design? Myhre Concrete Design was started by father and daughter team, Heidi Dietrich and Clay Myhre 10 years ago. They knew there was a demand for customizable concrete, something other than grey slab. Myhre Concrete Design focuses on adding personality to a driveway, a path, a pool, a deck, a firepit, a patio, or whatever you can dream up! Their passion and creativity is who Myhre Concrete is. 2. What are some perks of concrete for flooring, patios, countertops, etc? We love to push design limits. The colors and stamp are fully customizable. Clients have an opportunity to do what they want with their vision, and there is a good chance it will cost less than other traditional options.
The client picks the color, stamp, and style. Myhre is on location when the concrete is poured and we finish the surface. We work directly with the builder and the company pouring the “slab on grade.” The flooring turns out beautiful, unique, and is extremely cost effective for the client. If you have existing concrete, no problem. We are able to stain it to create a unique floor.
Tell us your most unique project. "The Yellow Brick Road" just like in the Wizard of Oz! For more information contact Myhre Concrete Design 701.751.4252 4232 Hagen Ave, Bismarck ND myhreconcrete.com
DAKOTA PERSPECTIVES
A new edition to Myhre Concrete Design is concrete countertops. The perks, again are endless. The client can choose any shape, color, or texture. Additions like glass, rocks or really anything to create an even more unique look. What is the process like for anyone interested in having a concrete floor? We get really excited when it comes to "slab on grade". This is a fabulous option for flooring.
