featured couple Meet our featured bride and groom, Hailey and Ross Aman. Their love story is magical and will give you butterflies. Read all about the Bismarck couple and how these two fell in love and planned their perfect day.

Hailey and Ross first met at Mayville State University the fall of 2010. He was a senior playing basketball, and she was a freshman on the women’s basketball team. Throughout the year they would randomly run into each other in the gym, on the bus, or in the hallways. They hung out for a couple weeks towards the end of Ross’s senior year, but decided not to date. Hailey went home for the summer, and Ross graduated. Little did she know, he came back to Mayville State as a student assistant with the men’s basketball team. They like to joke about how it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight, but how Hailey had to walk by twice. Once they started officially dating in the fall of 2011, they realized how much they had in common from basketball, to hobbies, and more importantly values. They are two small town North Dakota kids with a playful personalities, easy going natures, and both are still kids at heart. Their love story was not always easy; Ross

and Hailey lived over three and half hours apart for three years of their relationship. Hailey finished up her second degree in Fargo and Ross lived on the western side of ND. Finally, Hailey made the move to Bismarck, ND and, on September 23, 2017, Ross dropped down on one knee. “I surprised Hailey on the deck of our house after I asked for her to go check the burgers on the grill (even though it was really rose petals and a love note on the grill), as she turned around in surprise I was on one knee with a ring. And as you all probably know she said yes,” exclaims Ross. After the proposal, the wedding planning began. On June 16th, Ross and Hailey became husband and wife and started their happily ever after. “Our wedding went off without a hitch and it will be a day I will never forget because I got to marry my best friend and the most gorgeous girl in the world,” says Ross. The two now reside in Mandan, ND, with

their dog Murphy, spending weekend afternoons on the river and taking advantage of the golf courses around town. Interested in being the 2020 featured couple? Check out bismarckbridal.com and apply today!

Pure Barre classes help create that long, lean muscle appearance that every bride wants on her big day.”

8 BISMARCK BRIDAL 7 MAGAZINE | READY | JANUARY-FEBRUARY FOR FOREVER 2019 2018

Fit for Your Big Day Pure Barre by Jennifer Kranz When Mary Logan went to her first Pure Barre class in 2012 in Bozeman, Montana, she had no idea the impact the 55-minute class would have on her life. “It was a totally different workout than I had ever experienced from the moment I walked into the studio. There were mirrors on the wall, a ballet bar, and I was given socks with grippys. What it did to my body and what it did to my mind was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. It literally changed my life,” Mary explains. Fast forward to November of 2018 and Mary opening her own Pure Barre studio bringing her love of barre workouts to Bismarck. Pure Barre is an infusion of ballet, yoga, and Pilates that uses body weight to concentrate on various muscle groups. The fastpaced workout set to upbeat music focuses on small, isometric movements. Mary describes isometric movements as teeny tiny, “An inch is just an inch, think movements the size of a paperclip.” This low impact workout is perfect for people with pre-existing injuries. There is always one foot on the ground, a ballet bar to hold on to, and highly trained instructors that will help modify movements when needed. Mary has put together a Bride-to-Be package that includes three months of unlimited classes to be used before a bride’s big day. “It can take three to five classes to really understand what we are asking your body to do, and it takes attending around ten consecutive classes to start seeing changes in your body,” Mary

explains. “This three-month package allows an individual to knock out a strong fitness routine without bulking up. Pure Barre classes help create that long, lean muscle appearance that every bride wants on her big day.” Beginning a new workout routine can be an intimidating experience. At Pure Barre the instructors are trained to create a positive, encouraging environment. Mary recommends arriving 15 minutes early so that you can go over Pure Barre terminology with an instructor before class begins. During class the instructor walks through the workout step by step over a microphone. This allows you to concentrate on your body and how it moves rather than watching an instructor and trying to copy what she is doing. “It becomes a personal connection to the workout and our trainers help the class feel comfortable, capable, and confident,” Mary explains. Mary and her team of six instructors offer 31 classes throughout the week. Monday through Friday there are five to seven classes and two classes each on Saturday and Sunday. “The response from the community has been so encouraging,” Mary smiles. The most popular class times are 5:30pm, 6:30pm, and 7:30pm as well as Sundays. Mary’s best advice for brides when it comes to preparation for their big day is, “Don’t let the fear of the unknown keep you from coming to our studio. Everyone was a beginner at something.”

Unique and Beautiful Art & Andy Vintage by Jennifer Kranz Kelsey Mittleider and Lindsay Stroh are farmer’s wives that share a love of décor, antiques, and thrifting. They live two miles apart outside of Tappen and their husbands are cousins. The duo are self-described goofballs who have created a business named Art & Andy Vintage out of their love for beautiful, vintage furniture. Art & Andy Vintage provides a unique service to clients looking for special pieces to complement the theme of an event. From furniture rental to full service decorating, Kelsey and Lindsay of Art & Andy Vintage can help you create the event you have dreamed about. “My mom owned an antique store and I started helping her sell antiques,” answers Kelsey when asked where she got her passion. “We started decorating at events for friends and family and it kind of took off from there.” While the overall style of Art & Andy Vintage is antiques, their pieces are versatile and can work with many different themes and events. Their pieces have been used in family and senior photos, at baby showers and wedding showers as well as weddings themselves. When a bride contacts Art & Andy Vintage about renting one of their pieces or about their décor services, Kelsey and Lindsay prefer to meet face to face so they can learn about the bride’s vision for her day and get to know her overall style. The bride can then choose specific pieces she would like to rent from their collection of décor. As the event gets closer the pieces can be picked up by the bride or delivered by Kelsey and Lindsay. Art

& Andy’s most popular piece is a mustard yellow couch named Belinda after her previous owner. Kelsey and Lindsay have a passion for making spaces look beautiful and they want to provide their brides with the look they envision but even better than the brides expect. “We love getting to know our clients and giving them what they want. What we love even more is getting to know our clients so well that we can add a surprise element to their space knowing it’s the perfect, unexpected touch.” Kelsey explains, “At one wedding we did, the bride had a plain backdrop. We knew adding embroidery hoops would fit the bride’s style perfectly, so we added the hoops to the backdrop as a surprise. The bride loved it.” Seeing the excitement in their client’s eyes when they see their space fully decorated or find the perfect piece for their photos or event is Kelsey’s and Lindsay’s favorite part of what they do. “It’s the best to see how excited people get with the final result,” Lindsay smiles. To see more of Art & Andy’s work and find the perfect piece of furniture for your event visit their Instagram page at @art.andy.vintage. You will be impressed by these two goofballs’ eyes for design and talent for creating beautiful spaces. Website: www.artandyvintage.com Facebook: Art & Andy Vintage Instagram: @art.andy.vintage

As you’re considering what the men in your wedding party will wear, it is important to keep in mind the pros and cons of buying or renting wedding attire. When renting, your groomsmen will save money, as it is more cost effective to rent than to buy. While suits can be bought for around the same price as a rental, the cost of a suit rises when you add tailoring and buying a new shirt, tie, and vest. and request a change in color or a change in dress design before the dress ever gets to the store. “This gives White Lace Bridal the ability to offer our brides dresses they won’t see everywhere else,” Anne explains. She adds, “We can offer the same quality product as big-name designers and at a lower price point as well.” It’s been said that weddings are seasonal but that’s not the case for bridal stores. “Brides have to buy their dresses so far ahead of time that we are actually busier during what’s considered not wedding season,” Anne says. Brides should be buying their dresses around 8 months ahead of time. This will allow the store to order a brand-new gown, customize details like color, and order a closer fitting size so fewer alterations are needed. White Lace Bridal does sell their samples but to be sure you’re getting exactly what you want, give yourself enough time and book an appointment well in advance of your wedding date. Shopping for your wedding dress is arguably the most exciting day of wedding planning. Anne suggests booking an appointment at the store if you plan on shopping on the weekend. At White Lace Bridal, you are required to work with a consultant during your 90-minute appointment. This allows you to maximize your time and allows the store to preserve their samples and keep them in good condition. In the interest of space, brides are asked

BISMARCK BRIDAL | FOREVER STARTS HERE 2019

Bismarck has world class talent and world class people. Any way we can bring those people together is great.”

Our Space, Your Event CoStudio by Jennifer Kranz Walking into Co-Studio, you’re greeted by perfectly worn original wood floors, beautiful windows radiating an abundance of natural light, and exposed brick walls that offer the perfect backdrop for any event décor. Owners Amos and Carly Kolbo knew they had a special space and couldn’t keep it to themselves. “Co-working spaces have become a big thing and there was really no reason for the space to be just ours,” explains Amos. Co-Studio is located on the third floor of the Anderson Building in west downtown Bismarck. Built in 1912, the building was originally used to house farming implements for International Harvester. Wedding photographers by trade, Amos and Carly use the space as their photography studio and quickly realized there was a need for an indoor space to shoot in the winter. Bismarck has a vibrant, supportive creative community and the couple felt compelled to open their space to others. “Why wouldn’t we share this space with our community? We decided to open it up to other creatives and it evolved in to filling a need for an event space, too” Carly says, “It’s has a great vibe for both creative endeavors and events.” The bright, beautiful space has become a popular venue for a variety of clients. “We want our space to be completely pliable to people’s vision,” says Amos. Because of this, Co-Studio is perfect for brides looking for a unique place to host events leading up to their big day. Engagement parties, bridal showers, and

rehearsal dinners have been hosted at Co-Studio. The space has a maximum capacity of 60 people and can become whatever a bride might want. It’s perfect for small, intimate weddings, too. “We’re passionate about unique weddings and one of the places we love to shoot weddings is here,” says Carly. The versatile space allows people to come back time and time again to host different events. One of the greatest things about Co-Studio is that each event is completely customizable. The Kolbos have a storage room full of beautiful furniture and props for clients to use to decorate. Tables and chairs can be arranged in whatever way fits your event. You can bring in whatever food you would like whether it be high end cuisine or mom’s lemonade and scotcheroos. Alcohol is allowed; no license is necessary if you’re not charging for alcohol. If you’re having a cash bar, your bartender must be licensed. Weekends fill up quickly at Co-Studio so inquire early about availability for your day. Visit the Co-Studio website at www.costudiobismarck. com and use the contact form to communicate with the Carly and Amos about renting the space. While the wedding photography side of the couple’s business takes Carly and Amos away from Bismarck often, they love coming home to the town they grew up in. Amos explains, “Like my friend Ben Brick says, Bismarck has world-class talent and worldclass people. We couldn’t agree more. Any way we can bring everyone together and share as a community is great.”

Custom Catering for the Creative Bride Darrell’s Southern Style Barbeque & Soul Food Café by Jennifer Kranz Darrell Mathews wants to cater your wedding and he wants to make the food memorable. Owner and head chef at Darrell’s Southern Style Barbeque and Soul Food Café, Darrell has a passion for catering events and bringing his food to the masses. Darrell identified a need for southern style barbeque in Bismarck and his brick and mortar restaurant has taken off. While his barbeque is delicious and soul-satisfying food it’s not the only trick up his chef jacket’s sleeve. “Yes, we’ve done the traditional formal dining of steak and potato dinners, but we’ve also done the untraditional like barbecue pits and a smoked alligator. We want to be known for thinking outside the box and being custom,” Darrell explains. Currently working on pricing out a wild game feed for a wedding, Darrell loves to explore options. “We don’t have set pricing or a catering menu so that allows us to completely customize your wedding event,” says Darrell. He has catered small events like rehearsal dinners and huge events for 8,000 people. Regardless of the size of the event Darrell wants people to be happy, “I want people to feel like they’re part of the family and I want them to know that we’re going to take care of them.” Because of the custom nature of Darrell’s Southern Style Barbeque and Soul Food Café and its growing popularity its important to contact Darrell early and get the catering process started. While he has done a 200-guest wedding in three days, he prefers a little more time to create the perfect menu for your event. Six months out is a good starting point. This allows Darrell to meet

with a couple for an initial consultation. In that first meeting, be prepared to tell Darrell what you envision for your meal. “I love a challenge. If you can give me something that will make me sit down and think and study, that’s great,” says Darrell. From there a tasting will be scheduled. Darrell will include your requests as well as items he thinks will pair well with that food. His tastings are free and in his 20 years of experience he’s never lost a catering after a tasting. While all-custom catering may sound expensive Darrell prefers to be budget conscious for the couples he works with. “We find ways to provide high quality food at a low price,” he explains, “We’ve done carving stations of steamship beef.” Delicious, memorable options like carving stations are high impact but at budget friendly price points. It’s important to note that everything from Darrell’s Southern Style Barbeque and Soul Food Café is homemade. “You won’t see us showing up with a trailer full of pre-boxed food,” Darrell says. When asked what he wants people to know about Darrell’s Southern Style Barbeque and Soul Food Café, Darrell answers, “We’ve done just about everything and people enjoy our food. We want to be Bismarck’s premier catering company for all things untraditional. Once your guests taste our food, once they taste what we bring to the table, they’ll remember it as part of your special day.”

27 BISMARCK BRIDAL | LOVE, CAPTURED 2019

Capturing the Perfect Shot Glasser Images by Jennifer Kranz Photos and video from your wedding day will become some of the most cherished images you’ll own. The love in a bride’s eyes as she smiles saying her vows, the “I can’t believe how lucky I am” look on a groom’s face the first time he sees his wife-to-be, and the emotion each guest displays while the bride and groom dance to their first dance are fleeting but incredibly special moments that the photographers and videographers at Glasser Images are experts at capturing. Glasser Images began with a single senior photo taken by founder and Bismarck native Jack Glasser in 2005. Jack’s passion, eye for detail, and entrepreneurial spirit has grown Glasser Images into a photography and videography powerhouse. “I wanted to create a studio with a creative focus. Our business side focuses on business, so our creatives can focus on their creativity. This model allows everyone to be focused on what they are best at,” explains Jack. Based in Bismarck, Glasser Images now captures images both nationally and internationally and has photographers in Colorado, Minnesota, and South Dakota. Glasser Images offers no travel costs for weddings in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana. Their photographers will travel regionally, nationally, and even internationally to capture your wedding day. Glasser Images adds, “We’ve really grown, and social media has helped with that.” Browse the photos on Glasser Images’ website and Facebook or Instagram pages and the talent and creativity of their photographers jumps of each page. Glasser Images hasn’t just grown geographically, they’ve grown in services offered as well. “Videography has been a natural progression for us as,” explains Jack, “It’s a different medium than photography and can capture so much.” Videography allows for the capturing of movement, reactions, and emotions through a wedding day. “By putting moving images to music, our videographers create a more emotional reaction and tell our couple’s stories in a different way,” Jack says. Glasser Images has many amazingly talented videographers located in Bismarck, Fargo, and Colorado. Some have the option to add especially stunning video because they are FAA certified drone pilots. While Glasser Images continues to grow, it is Jack’s goal to keep a boutique vibe to the company. “We want to keep that one-on-one, personal feel,” he explains As brides and grooms begin looking for someone to shoot their wedding it is important for couples to do their research and have a good idea of what they want the images from their wedding day to look like. “Do you really like the photos from another wedding we did? Knowing the reason behind why you chose Glasser Images will help your photographer better understand your wants and needs,” Liz says. Glasser Images

Once a couple books their date, a Glasser Images client consultant will help guide them through the process of working with a Glasser Images’ photographer for their wedding. The couple and their consultant will sit down and talk through packages offered, schedules, locations, and custom products like wedding albums. Glasser Images offers three standard wedding packages to their clients. “We know that every wedding is different so customizable options are available as well,” Liz explains. At this point a Glasser Images’ couple can rest easy. “This is where sometimes couples get nervous, but we’ve done this so long we have it down to a science. We’ve got this,” Liz says assuredly. Glasser Images uses a system to make sure every detail of your wedding day is covered. “Our systems make it easier for our clients. The questionnaires give us initial information to start a conversation and then move into specifics. They help our staff be more productive and efficient as well as utilize the couple’s time more effectively,” Jack explains. While the processes create efficiency for Glasser Images and free up time for couples to focus on other aspects of wedding planning, Jack and his team know that great photography and video is so much more than a system. “Glasser Images places the utmost importance on the connection between our photographers and their clients,” explains Jack. Their

first meeting is more than an introduction, “We want to know how the couple met, their love story, and what they envision for their perfect day. It’s about a personal connection. And that is always 100% the absolute most important.” Jack and Liz have some advice for couples looking for their perfect wedding photographer. “Your focus on your wedding day should be in the moment. Don’t worry about a specific pose, just be in the moment. The joy will show through if you are in the moment,” Liz suggests. For Jack it’s about trust. “They are hiring Glasser Images for the right reasons. There is something about us that spiked the couple’s interest and helped them make that final decision. When our clients trust our photographers, it allows their creativity to shine through.” The personal connection created between a Glasser Images photographer and their couple is what sets their stunning photography and video apart. This excerpt from the Glasser Images website explains it best, “From the moment we meet you to the moment you hold an image in your hands, YOU are what’s important to us.”

BISMARCK BRIDAL | LOVE SO DEEP 2019

Curated Travel Curated Travel Co. by Jennifer Kranz Cassie Staiger-Jeter has been helping couples plan their dream destination weddings and perfect honeymoons for the last 5 years. Cassie’s company, Curated Travel Co., formerly known as CS Travel Planners, offers full service planning for all of your travel needs. A destination bride herself, Cassie and her team have travel planning down to a science, “We’ve honed in our process and that provides our couples peace of mind.” Whether you’re booking a European honeymoon, or a tropical destination wedding you can trust your experience is in good hands at Curated Travel Co. The Destination Wedding Destination weddings are the perfect way for couples to celebrate the most important day of their lives with their closest family and friends in a unique location. While most couples have an idea of a destination, they have no idea of a specific place to get married. This is where, Curated Travel Co. steps in and begins guiding the couple through the destination wedding planning process. “We ask couples to have an idea of where they want to go and a budget for both them and their guests. We then provide couples with a destination wedding planning guide online,” explains Cassie. Once a destination and resort are decided a wedding specific Facebook page is created by the couple to keep guests up-to-date on everything wedding. This allows the couple, and Cassie, to stay in contact with guests regarding RSVP’s and travel payment deadlines. Cassie explains that it’s important to use an agent as they can bundle hotel, air, and transfers together, so couples and their guests get the best deals. “Destination weddings really

simplify the process,” Cassie says, “The bride and groom get more time with their guests and they allow guests to bond and create lifelong friendships.” The Honeymoon When it comes to the honeymoon Cassie wants her couples to know that taking that post-wedding trip is possible. “Couples should have a good idea of what they want to spend, when they want to travel, and an idea of where they want to go,” suggests Cassie. Knowing that information helps Cassie customize the honeymoon to both the bride’s and groom’s wants. She likes to add touches that make each trip different and special. The honeymoon is a great way for grooms to get involved. Once the location and resort are chosen, the groom can work with Curated Travel Co. to surprise his bride with a romantic spa treatment or champagne and strawberries with a handwritten note. Couples can begin planning their honeymoon with Curated Travel Co. whenever they would like. A $200 deposit is required, and the final payment is due 45 days before the trip. Cassie is passionate about travel herself and loves facilitating incredible experiences for couples. She hopes to provide such great experiences that she creates clients for life. Find Curated Travel Co. at the Dream Day Bridal show on Sunday, January 27th from noon-4:00pm and the Sixteen03 Bridal Open House on Saturday, March 2nd from 4-7pm.

BISMARCK BRIDAL | TWO BECOME ONE 2019

Presiding Over Your Day Pastor Mike Kraemer by Jennifer Kranz By now you’ve realized the amount of planning that goes in to weddings. Search ‘wedding to do list’ on the internet and you’ll find endless lists with boxes to check in preparation for your big day. While there’s value in being organized and creating lists, your wedding ceremony shouldn’t be one of the boxes you mindlessly check off. “You don’t want to get to the end of your ceremony and say, ‘We got that done but it wasn’t a great experience,” says Pastor Mike Kraemer of Prairie Heights. Your wedding ceremony should be meaningful, personal, and exactly what you want. Pastor Mike can provide all of those things and more. For a couple wanting a traditional wedding ceremony in an untraditional venue Pastor Mike is your man. He’s been performing ceremonies outside of the traditional church setting for the last two years. Pastor Mike takes his faith and role as pastor very seriously and connects well with people who may not have a church but know they want traditional vows as part of their day. The advantage of going with Pastor Mike is that he is really good at weddings. “I can work with couples that have done their research and have everything planned and I can work with couples that have no idea where to start,” explains Pastor Mike. With a couple beginning the process of finding a pastor, Pastor Mike likes to meet for coffee. “I want people to see me and talk to me,” he explains. Pastor Mike’s goal is to get to know the

couple, too. “If it’s going to be a meaningful wedding ceremony, I want to get to know them. I want to know what they like, what their hobbies are, and how they met so we can put together a meaningful wedding,” he explains. Pastor Mike and his couples meet five to six times before the actual ceremony and through those meetings work on ensuring the couple’s perfect wedding. What couples quickly realize when they work with Pastor Mike is that all the preparation for the ceremony isn’t just about the ceremony; it’s really preparation for the rest of their lives together Pastor Mike’s favorite thing about doing weddings is building lifelong relationships. He says, “I’m going to fight for these couples and I want to help them in any way I can.” This goes for two, five, or even fifteen years down the road. “My hope is when my couples are going through major events or have things they need help with or they need advice on they’ll come to me. They’re stuck with me for the rest of their lives,” smiles Pastor Mike. Pastor Mike’s words of wisdom for couples beginning the ceremony planning process are, “Make the process fun, make the process meaningful, and find someone that its more than just a ceremony to them, find someone that can help you through your day but also through life. Pastor Mike Kraemer can be contacted via email at mike. kraemer@bismarckph.com

BISMARCK BRIDAL | HOME TOGETHER 2019

“We take care of all the stuff behind the scenes making everything as easy as possible for our clients.”

Your Home, Our Town Hometown Realty by Jennifer Kranz Tisa Lee Peek and Derrick Rittenbach, realtors at Hometown Realty, have teamed up to offer a one of a kind realty service to people buying and selling homes in the Bismarck/Mandan/ Lincoln area. “We felt a team was the best way to go because Derrick and I have so many positive traits that are different. When you combine those traits, you get the best of both worlds,” explains Tisa.

has so much to offer, so many different things to do and it’s as great place to raise a family.” To follow the team and their adventures in helping their clients find the perfect home in the area, follow Derrick and Tisa on Facebook at: tisapeekrealto or rittenbachrealtor

Couples starting their life together will appreciate the way Tisa and Derrick’s personalities play off each other. A retired Air Force meteorologist, Derrick’s strengths include research and technology. His background in property management can help clients interested in real estate investment. A long-time rodeo barrel racer and roper, Tisa is a problem solver. She enjoys getting out and finding solutions for clients. Tisa has lived in different places and has a lot of transactions under her belt which is valuable experience for couples just beginning their home buying journey. While their strengths may be different, the duo’s goals are the same. “We want to work hard and make our clients happy. We want to create clients for life,” says Tisa. Purchasing a home can be a stressful and confusing process that centers around a transaction. Derrick and Tisa know it’s a special time in people’s lives, so they have created a program that takes the focus off the transaction and centers it around their client’s experience. The VIP Home Buyer Program was developed after Derrick and Tisa realized clients were getting lost in the home buying process. Derrick explains, “We’re making promises to our clients. Buyers will have access to a financial planner, we’ll offer free home warranty, as well as a one stop shop to change mail and utilities over to the client’s new address.” It is the team’s hope that the VIP Home Buyer Program will give their client’s peace of mind and make the whole moving process much easier.

When couples begin the home buying process, they should have a few things prepared before meeting with Derrick and Tisa. The team recommends shopping for the right lender by talking to, at least, three different mortgage companies to find the right fit. From there, “know your budget and get your must haves wound tight,” says Tisa. Keep in mind that the process can take three to four months or longer but once the offer is presented Derrick and Tisa take over. “We take care of all the ‘stuff ’ behind the scenes making everything as easy as possible for our clients,” says Derrick. Given their backgrounds one might ask Derrick and Tisa why they’ve settled their families in Bismarck. The answer is easy. “People love Bismarck-Mandan,” Tisa smiles, “The area BISMARCK-MAGAZINE.COM
