Survivors

Our 2023 Hidden Hometown Heroes stories reminded me just how hard things can be when life throws you a curveball, but more importantly, how inspiring it is not only to fight through adversity, but also in doing so remain determined to make a positive impact.

As you read this year’s stories of unfathomable pain, loss and sadness, you’ll also find stories of hope, gratitude, and making a difference, everything from an individual bringing a community of recovering addicts together to create healthy habits to another individual paying it forward for an experience 20 years prior. It’s a beautiful sight to see the amazing people that make Bismarck and Mandan the greatest place to live.

In honor of the individuals and their advocates who have overcome cancer, accidents, addiction, depression, and more, Scheels, Bismarck Magazine and the Larks are proud to present our ten incredible Hidden Hometown Hero nominees and their stories.

We’re also asking for your help to turn some of these heroes, survivors, and advocates into legends. Vote for your 2023 Scheels Hidden Hometown Hero at larksbaseball.com from May 1st through May 19th. The final six will be announced on Facebook live on Monday, May 22. These individuals will be honored in a big way at a dedicated Larks game this summer. Dates for each individual can be found at larksbaseball.com.

On behalf of Scheels, Bismarck Magazine and the Bismarck Larks, we’d like to congratulate these individuals for surviving, overcoming and making North Dakota a greater place to live. You inspire and remind us all to be thankful and use FUN to make a difference.
