PUBLISHERS

Winter came early this year, the snow has fallen and the temps have dropped, but that’s ok, we are North Dakotans and can survive anything. It’s time to cozy up inside, grab a warm drink and sit by the fire. There’s something so comforting about the holiday season. We may have a blanket of white powder and “Jack Frost nipping at your nose,” but there is something truly magical about this time of year. We become enveloped in a snow globe all our own, the smells of fresh baked treats start to fill the house in preparation for all to celebrate, and twinkly lights sparkle a little brighter in the night. Another year has come and almost gone, and as we all reflect upon the past, remember what this season is about and all we have to be thankful for– our friends, and family, our community, our homes, and our freedom. As we enter into the craziness of the holidays remember to slow down, live in the moment and enjoy the good things in life…and maybe we can help! Throughout this issue we've found a way to help keep you going through the holidays. Enjoy recipes and drink ideas from our local bartenders and baristas as they take your taste buds on a festive journey. This issue is packed with flavor, from classic pumpkin to a cranberry twisted cocktail these drink connoisseurs will keep you caffeinated and…calm for the holidays. *Remember to support your community and shop, eat, drink and give local this holiday season. Holidays are a big time for local businesses and what better way to show your support than to support them and keep our community growing and thriving. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Tradition. The Meriam Webster dictionary defines it as “an inherited, established or customary pattern of thought,

action or behavior.” Christmas is a magical time of year

filled with many traditions. One of Bismarck's oldest, and

most loved tradition is the capitol Christmas tree Lighting. Every year, the Governor and First Lady invite the community for Bismarck’s long standing tradition of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Memorial Hall is filled to the brim with holiday cheer, children whispering, and excited friends and neighbors. All the children and students look furiously to find their ornament.
