ASPIRE BUILDERS | RIVER + RANCH MAGAZINE

Playing a role in making people happy and excited to move into their home is why Greg Meidinger and Brandon Brandt started their business, Aspire Homes. Meidinger had been building homes since 2011, venturing out to create Aspire Homes with Brandt in May of 2017. The duo co-founded the company with a combined fifteen years of experience in the industry. Seeing how people’s largest investment is their home, Meidinger said that at Aspire Homes, their aim is to “help people get into a quality house that they will call home for the right price. To bring something new to the area in the way of customer service, hands-on experience, and establishing lifelong relationships.” Building that strong bond with customers comes first for Meidinger. Aspire Homes does not just try to find the newest and best design, although each plan has that in mind, they truly put the customer at the forefront of everything Aspire Homes does. Meidinger’s strategy through the home building process is to make his customers feel comfortable He wants

- Kari Huber, Design That Sells Co-founder Brandon Brandt brings his North Dakota roots into the business, having lived on the family farm between New Salem and Center, and follows in the footsteps of his grandfather when it comes to construction. Brandt lives in Mandan as well. “Homebuilding isn’t an 8-5 job, so we have to have that flexibility and realize that sometimes we are sitting down to dinner and daddy has to run out to a job sight, and that’s okay” Trisha said. “We make a great team.” It is through the support of family that Aspire Homes is able to develop strong relationships within the Bismarck/Mandan community. Understanding the time it takes to provide the best product and that “team” philosophy, reinforces their drive to always bring their best to the next project.

RIVER + RANCH MAGAZINE | DIVERSITY HOMES

Building homes and building a business are two different things. Jason Frank, owner of Diversity Homes, started building homes roughly 21 years ago. Back in those days he worked for a home builder where he started out cleaning and then worked his way up to warranty work, and then a job site manager. Through all of this, Frank wondered what it would be like to start his own business. Nine years ago, he decided it was finally time to take on a new challenge and began his own journey into home building by starting Diversity Homes. Frank put his philosophy into action. “My mission is to build a good quality home that sets itself apart” Frank said. While his work in the industry started over two decades ago, building homes was something that Frank had been interested in since he was a child. Frank recalled that when he was a kid his parents built a new house and it intrigued him. It was the aspects of building a new home that were important to his parents back then that stick with Frank as he continues along

Frank’s personal flare is evident in his own home where he has incorporated many of the design elements he calls “Diversity signatures,” and that “W h a t

he pulls from his mother’s designs from all those years ago. It is there where he tries to foster an impressive work ethic within his own children, Tahrye and Sloane.

- Jon Dauenhauer, Carpet World “Tahrye, since he’s been little, he’s been a little athlete and Sloane, she likes her dolls and she likes to look pretty. She’s a little artist and a great helper” Frank said about his two, very different children. “He (Tahrye) does help on the job sites and she (Sloane) is really good at taking a scissors and putting things together.” Frank’s children are an inspiration to him. They are the push that he needed to continue to build and improve his business. “I want to continue to do better” Frank said “It is inspiring to me that they (Tahrye and Sloane) know that I was a part of something that a lot of people see and a lot of people own.” Frank hopes that one day his children will take over Diversity Homes. It is important to him that it continues to be a family-owned company that puts the customer’s needs first.

HALLMARK HOMES | RIVER + RANCH MAGAZINE

The blueprints to home building lie in Hallmark Homes’ owner Scott Moran’s blood. Moran’s grandfather set the stage for his love of building. “My grandfather built about 200 homes in Jamestown, which is where I was raised,” Scott said. “Going to work with him all the time was something I wanted to get back into.” After owning coffee shops in Spokane, WA for several years, Scott and his wife Vicki followed this calling back into a familiar industry, which brought them to Bismarck in 2003. “It was the perfect time to do it.” Scott said. The legacy he chose to carry on truly resonated with Scott when remodeling his uncle’s farm four years ago. As Scott and his team worked on the old house, built in the 60’s before he was even born, he couldn’t help but find it emotional. “We were pulling nails and sheet rock,” he said, thinking “Oh my gosh, this is something my grandpa put in the house.”

Customers are what guide us and that makes it fun.” Scott and Vicki stay motivated and creativeminded by attending the International Builder’s Show every year, attending conferences and participating in the Parade of Homes. When it comes to design, Vicki isn’t afraid to mix things up a bit. “So many think that you can’t put more than one style together,” she states, but if there is anything that experience has shown her, it’s that if done right, a variety of styles really can compliment each other. “The Parade of Homes is an awesome opportunity where we can show we can be vintage, we can be contemporary, we can be whatever.” Every customer has their own view of what works.be contemporary, we can be whatever.” “A s t h e o w n e r o f A d v a n c e d M e c h a n i c a l , I n c . , I h a v e t h e g r e a t p l e a s u r e o f d o i n g b u s i n e s s w i t h H a l l m a r k H o m e s . The pride in Rachel Kuntz’s voice is undeniable “It’s been your dream. You have a passion for it and you’re good at it.” Rachel’s husband, Josh, started Prestige Homes & Design in 2010 after working in the industry since 2001. Prestige Homes & Design is a one stop shop for designing and building a dream home. Josh has experience in architecture, construction and designing custom homes. “I’ve never built a house twice. I have floor plans, and we can start looking at some of those plans but it’s never the same thing in the end. It’s custom.” A year and a half ago Josh and Rachel took their passion and built their current home. After moving every 2-3 years, the couple started a family and wanted to put down roots. Looking for a slower pace, Rachel and Josh bought a lot in an area they were building houses for 2 other families. The picturesque lot on the river, and the quiet neighborhood, made the decision easy for the Kuntzes. “The water is right in the back yard. We’ve never had a lot of company at our house but last summer we sure did” said Josh of the waterfront home.

Josh’s passion for his craft is evident in

STONESHIRE BUILDERS | RIVER + RANCH MAGAZINE

We’ve all heard that home is where the heart is. In the case of Stoneshire Builders, Deb Eiseman puts her heart into every home they build. Deb admits on a few occasions after homeowners move in, she is still a little emotionally attached. “Oh yes, she’s cried,” her husband Brian Eiseman said. “We’ve had homeowners cry, too.” That’s what you get when building with Stoneshire Builders. “It always makes you feel so good the day that [the home] closes and the day they get to move in when they are so excited,” Deb said. “That makes us feel really good about what we do. It’s a good feeling. They are tears of joy.” Each home is different from the one built before. The Eiseman’s take pride in tailoring the design of the custom homes built by Stoneshire Builders. “(This) is really what we care about,” Brian adds. “It is our philosophy, because we consider ourselves a semi-custom to custom builder. We figure out our client’s needs and their wish list. How do they live and how can we tailor their home to their lifestyle?”

When relaxing at home, Deb’s favorite part is the living area. “My favorite is in the summertime sitting and looking out into the big sky and sometimes there’s deer back there,” Deb said. Originally, the house they currently live in was not going to be theirs. “We chose the neighborhood just because we were typical builders buying lots,” Brian said. They began building with others in mind; empty nester types, or people who were simply looking to spend on less. But sure enough, once they started, they realized this was home. “We built it with the idea it could be a model home, because we were going to put it in the Parade of Homes,” Brian said. “If it sold, we were totally cool with that, but if it didn’t sell right away, we built it for us.” While it’s true that home is where the heart is, the Eisemans, and Stoneshire Builders, can attest that your heart need not be in only one home. We’re following the Anderson family through their new build over the next few issues. From beginning to end, here’s an exclusive look into what it takes to build a dream home.

n our initial issue of River and Ranch, our readers were introduced to the husband and wife duo behind Big River

Builders, Jordan and Kari Anderson. The couple were in the beginning stages of creating a house that would serve both as their home and a place for their business to grow. Since then, Jordan and Kari have continued the process of constructing and designing their home in Whispering Bay Read ahead to see their progress!

The full shape of the house is now clearly visible and Kari says that “this will be the last shot of the shell of the house.” Kari has been diligently planning the various elements of the interior of the home. “I am going full speed ahead with the design inside” Kari offered, “anywhere from the furniture, the tile, the accent walls, the fixture finishes, and the light finishes.” Kari said these preparations allow the couple to keep the process going smoothly as they transition from framing to the construction of the interior elements of the home. Within the next month, the couple plans to have all of the designing complete. After the house is painted everything can be installed. Kari indicated more mental work will be needed to put all the new creations into place. “Pretty soon in the evenings we will be sitting down and taking out the drafting paper and we will start hand drawing the fireplaces, the walls, the builts-ins, the library nook. Then they will start being built in the shop,” Kari said. The couple draws from similar tastes, which allows them

to be fully confident in the other’s decisions, even if they are “on the fly”, which Jordan says is something that happens often. As the home continues to progress, the inspiration behind Jordan and Kari’s style will become more visible. “We drew more inspiration from homes that have a very traditional style, northeastern, old-world style homes with detailed woodworking,” Jordan said. Kari agrees that eastern homes are a big influence on her choices for design, but adds, “I am for sure drawn to Hampton homes and I don’t see a lot of that around here; [I like] Cape Cod style homes.” Jordan and Kari’s inspiration for their new home and the intricate woodwork within it are characteristic of Big River Builders. “It is going to scream what we want to do and what we are a part of,” Kari said. Not only will the home contain woodwork unique to Big River Builders, but the home itself is designed in a way that Jordan and Kari believe is what sets them apart: with family in mind. “Family is why we do it,” Jordan said. “It makes us relatable, more inviting, and helps people be more at ease when they are with us making a very big decision.” Many of the design elements that Kari has been planning to put into the home are characteristic of what she does while planning homes for clients. “When I see a floor plan and I am designing for a family, I use the
