North Brisbane Lohri Celebration
NOrTHGATE, for the first time, a community Lohri celebration was organised in Northgate; the event was held at the heritage-listed Northgate Hall corner of Scott and Ridge Street on 14th January. The Hall was ideally suited to the event as it had a spacious lawn for the open fire ritual.

TAriNGA, On the occasion of Indian Republic Day at nine am sharp, the Indian flag was raised at the Indian Consulate office at 175A, Swan Road, Taringa, Brisbane. This ritual takes place year after year despite many challenges, including but not limited to Covid 19.
Dr Vagish Singh, as Mc, welcomed everyone to the event and announced the flag raising with National Anthem; as the 26th of January is also Australia Day, the Australian National anthem was also sung. Dr Vagish Singh invited Mrs Archana Singh, honorary consul for India to Queensland for her Indian Republic Day speech; she touched on India’s economic growth and congratulated it on its presidency of the G20. The much-awaited address by the learned and respected professor Sarva Daman Singh OAM followed. Professor ji spoke on ideals of the republican ideals, and he said that this hand been enshrined in India’s history from time immemorable; he said that even kings in ancient India were chosen by common consent, people spoke with one mind and came to common resolutions, the Challenges Inda has now is that it has to rededicate itself, he quoted Prime Minister Modi “Sabh ka saath , sabh ka Vikash, sabj ka Biswash , we have to cultivate our unity in diversity. The event concluded with refreshments for all and the group photos session.
