'i don't see much wrong with Virat's batting; should keep playing': ex-india captain shares piece of advice for Kohli
VIRAt Kohli on Sunday recorded his third golden duck of the ongoing IPL season to continue his torrid period with the willow. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper got caught out on first ball of the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with a mistimed hit to short midwicket. It was Kohli's third dismissal in the current IPL on the first ball, after two in successive matches last month. (Follow IPL 2022 Coverage)

Left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith started the proceedings with the ball for Sunrisers, and the ploy worked with Kohli flicking it straight to fielder Kane Williamson. In a miserable season with the Bangalorebased outfit, the star Indian batter has amassed just 216 runs in 12 matches with just one half-century. Kohli's last international ton was in 2019 and the mercurial player's career has witnessed a rough patch in the last few months.
Pundits including former India coach Ravi Shastri believe Kohli is "overcooked" due to relentless cricket and should take a break. But the ex-BCCI chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar feels the Indian would find his lost mojo only by spending time at the crease. "I feel he should keep playing. You can find form only by playing, not by resting," the former India captain told Cricbuzz. "Because, you get your form back when you spend time in the middle, when you have runs under your belt. If he scores runs in the last few games (of the IPL), then he can take a break. My personal view is if he is failing and he takes off, doubts will start creeping into his mind. That is not the way to go about it. "My advice to him will be that the form will come only in the middle. I do not see much wrong with Virat's batting. The T20 format is such. You can't take time to settle down, because, you have to play shots from the beginning. If you are not in great form, then things tend to get more difficult for a batsman," he further added.
Kohli's dry run with the bat has coincided with his stepping down as the leader of India in T20 and Test cricket, and being removed as the ODI skipper. He also relinquished Bangalore captaincy last season.
As Kohli looks to overcome the batting slump, Vengsarkar believes the batter has been burdened with high expectations. Kohli hasn't hit a century in more than 100 matches in all formats but he's got the backing of the former India skipper, who underlined the "impact" of an innings instead of talking about the three-figure milestones. "Internationally, if you have seen, he is getting runs, if not scoring centuries. I feel in India, we think getting runs means scoring hundreds. Scores of 60 and 70 are not considered runs. That is a wrong perception. What is important is the impact of one's innings. That is more important to me than scoring hundreds. We in India are obsessed with personal milestones," said Vengsarkar.

Gayle has been part of three franchises in IPL history. He was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009 and in his two year stint he scored 463 runs in 16 innings with two half-centuries. His most memorable time came at the Royal Challengers Bangalore who signed him in 2011. He played 84
innings for the franchise scoring 3163 runs at 43.3 and a strike rate of 152.7 with five centuries and 19 fifties. In 2018, after going unsold twice at the auction, he was picked by Punjab Kings for INR 2 crore. He scored 1339 runs for the team in 41 games. Despite the numbers, Gayle went unsold for the 2022 season, but he ain't over with IPL yet. Speaking to The Mirror, Gayle expressed his desire to not just return to the league, but also win a major T20 trophy which has been missing from his illustrious CV. “Next year I’m coming back, they need me! I’ve represented three teams in the IPL, Kolkata, RCB and Punjab. Between RCB and Punjab, I would love to get a title, with one of those two teams. I had a great stint with RCB where I was more successful within the IPL, and Punjab, they’ve been good. I love to explore and I love challenges so let's see what happens,” he said. 52 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, May, 2022
is gil the one? the search begins for ceo of the Brisbane 2032 olympic games
tHERE is one person being touted as the soon-to-benamed CEO of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG): Gillon McLachlan.
Nobody knows for sure whether he even wants the job, nor if his resume as an AFL CEO ticks the boxes on the Olympic head-hunter's checklist.
There is no clear-cut definition of what the CEO of an Olympic Games organising committee does, just one huge expectation: deliver.
No one has ever been an organising committee CEO twice, which means learning on the job – quickly — is essential.
Indeed, few get the chance to see the role through to its conclusion: the position tends to come with its own revolving-door, with the first CEO at some point making way for the second, and even, as happened in Sydney back in 2000, for a third.
When asked about the likelihood of a single CEO lasting the decade, Brisbane OCOG President Andrew Liveris told the ABC it was 'impossible to answer'. "I think this is a four-year term for myself, for example. The four years will be done such that the next six years actually are done really well, so set up is important," Liveris said.
Brisbane's ten-year buildup is three years longer than what Sydney received. Based on history, that could mean four or five CEOs before the Games are staged in 2032.
The Federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck told The Ticket it should be expected that some of the board members will also be "cycled through" as the phases of Games preparation shift, not to mention the changes necessitated through state and federal elections.

we have to keep doing our job, focus on our opponents: tottenham's emerson ahead of liverpool clash
WHILE a win can further Spurs’ chances for top-4, it would also dent Liverpool’s hopes as they chase a recordequalling 20th English firstdivision title.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been one of the key figures for the side in the ongoing Premier League season. The club is in the race for a Champions League qualification spot, and currently stands fifth in the Premier League table with 61 points – two behind their North London rivals Arsenal, who are fourth.
With four games remaining in the season, Tottenham would be aiming to secure a berth in the next season’s leading continental tournament; however, they face a tough test tonight when Tottenham meet Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are in the title-race against Manchester City.
While a win can further Spurs’ chances for top-4, it would also dent Liverpool’s hopes as they chase a recordequalling 20th English firstdivision title.
Emerson, who joined the side from Barcelona (after spending two years on loan at Real Betis), opened up on the clash against Liverpool. "Normally, pretty much as always. We have our methodology. We practice focusing on our next opponents so that doesn't change with previous results. We just keep doing our job and prepare for the next match,” Emerson said on Star Sports.
Reviewing the season, Emerson said that it has been a productive season for Tottenham. "I believe it's been a very productive season. A season where I've learnt a lot. I come from a very different league, even with a different physicality. But I think I've been adapting well. Obviously, you want fast results but you have to respect that process of improvement. I believe it's been a good season and I've performed well,” said the right-back. "The work we do, we work thinking about ourselves because it gets in the way if you're just trying to pay attention to the other teams. Our main objective is to be on the top-4 but we just work on ourselves and work within ourselves.”
