Mary Hull Webster | Novella | 2018 | unique print on film in lightbox | 32” x 42”

DALLAS, Texas – February 6, 2018 – Bivins Gallery in Dallas is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Mary Hull Webster at the 2018 Dallas Art Fair. We all conjure stories about what it is like to be alive. Some are ephemeral, others are cultural mythologies or personal dreams that we hold closely for decades and do not divulge to anyone. Mary Hull Webster’s art ranges far and wide across myriad media as she weaves subtle allusions to technology, mysticism and spirituality, literature, film, theater, and the nightly news. She says the titles are important. Maybe Hive has to do with unified consciousness or the intelligence of crowd sourcing—or suddenly

illuminates forgotten memories in the viewer’s own mind. Novella layers multiple scenes together as if it’s a play or the chapters of a book reduced to a single page. Webster’s exceptional works for the Dallas Art Fair tell stories that saturate the space with light, beauty and color punctuated by her own sound. Steel, wood, sewn silk, plastics, and found objects are stacked together on the floor in sculptural assemblies that emit their own light and sound. Light boxes on the walls illuminate abstracted images on film that seem to suggest our cultural dynamic. ABOUT THE DALLAS ART FAIR In the heart of the downtown arts district, the Dallas Art Fair offers collectors, arts professionals, and the public the opportunity to engage with a rich selection of modern and contemporary artworks presented by leading national and international galleries.
