The one question people ask me frequently is "do you really do all of this for your mom?" and for a few years I said yes without thinking about it at all. In 2019, I was asked this same question again, and my honest reply was, "Yes, but I also do this for myself" and she continued asking the question that followed "why do you say so?"

The answer came to my mind quite easily, although Lymphatica is a legacy in honour of my late mom Jackie who had to live with a long, painful illness called Lymphadema, Lymphatica just as much changed my life. I never knew that deep inside me I have so much empathy for the world, I really feel emotions like I feel with touch, with lymphatic therapy. A good friend of mine, phoned me a few days before my 28th birthday in early January and she said to me "you have accomplished so much already" and to which I responded, "I don't want to be known for my accomplishments, I want to be known for changing at least one person's life in a day through spreading lymphatic knowledge". I am without a doubt proud of my achievements and accomplishments, thinking back to the days where I was a reception lady doing health and safety files, I didn't know what my purpose was in life, and by God's grace and a lot of faith, I can say I am living the dream. Where did it all start?

"I want to be known for changing at least one person's life in a day through spreading lymphatic knowledge"

Lymphatica started off with a different name, for some reason MldCentreSA was the first choice, but after major internal growth and international recognition I made the conscious decision to change the name that will one day be a brand, or even the name on top of a lymphatic educational facility. I wanted a name that will be rememberd in years to come as the name that changed the struggle to hope, for those living with any lymphatic health deficiency. We are now renowned for our informative Facebook page and life changing therapies we offer.

What did I achieve since the start? I really don't have enough fingers to count the phenomenal moments I've had this far, but I type this smiling, with my heart filled with gratitude. Lymphatica, truly was a small seeded dream, one that I never knew would blow into what it is today, but I call her my blessing. I have trained with world renowned lecturers like Devin de Kock from Balancing touch and Carolyn Hoffman, I've even traveled to countries like Paris and Prague for training and education. In November 2019, I was blessed and left the South African shores for a few weeks to go further my studies in the UK. I had the privilege to stand alongside the professors from Oxford Lymphoedema Practice in a theater in The Manor Hospital in Oxford London where a LVA Surgery was performed. I continued my UK education journey where I met my role model Sally Kay and completed my training in Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD). During my visit in the UK I also furthered my education in the lymphatics by undergoing Manual Lymphatic Drainage training at The London School of Massage. Everyone always asks me what my biggest achievement is, and while boasting inside of me, I must say being accepted into the Immunology Sciences Course through Harvard Medical School (HMX Program) is still and will always be a highlight of my career. And, yes, I am not done yet. As for what's next, for now, at least for the next few weeks, I am just taking everything in that this journey has been. I’ve had the absolute honour of taking home the Judges Choice Awards for Passion & Commitment in Business at the Woman @ Breakfast awards evening in 2019. Alongside that, another absolute honour is to be a Finalist in the Health Care category for the Woman Of Stature Awards that will be hosted in March 2020. My journey now, and where I am, is to work on my faith and know my worth in the community as a female business owner, grow my practice and spread education. cont.

I truly believe that I went to the ends of the world for the best possible education in lymphatic therapy which I now offer to my patients and clients. I can say with so much joy, that my practice does offer different types of lymphatic therapy available only at Lymphatica. I will further my studies and I soon hope to publish my own MLD method. I am also aiming to make South Africa the next home for Reflexology Lymph Drainage and hope to work alongside Sally Kay to educate people on the treatment and outcomes. My heart rejoices when I say that I want to change the Lymphatic Education in South Africa for anyone from all walks of life living with any lymphatic related conditions. My biggest achievement will one day be, when anyone and everyone understand the importance of the lymphatic system and when people living with lymphoedema is shown the compassion, care and love they deserve. We will soon be launching our foundation in aid of assisting people living with lymphatic related conditions with affordable treatment and/or receiving their muchneeded treatment through the foundation. "...she taught me that compassion takes a person further than words."

My prayer is that, maybe somehow my mom can see that all the judgement, pain, and humiliation she had to endure before she went to heaven has changed for thousands of people, simply because she taught me that compassion takes a person further than words.

If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse." -- Jim Rohn

BIZBUZZ The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Organizer written by Melissa Muirfield

The past decade has seen life become increasingly sophisticated yet far less labor intensive for most of us. If you want to get and stay ahead, make use of professional organizer services, or what I call ‘efficiency services’. We outsource more and more tasks in our home to other companies just as if our home life was a business. A few of the efficiency services that you probably use include: Delivery services, car wash, launderette, various home maintenance, etc. Now more of us can afford for those chores to be taken care of by others, what is left for us to do? How can we use our money to maximize the opportunity of our time? That is where professional organizers come in. Imagine what a professional organizer working for you could do for you personal organization. Everything comes from organization. As a professional organizer I consult with many people to organize everything in their life, organize goals, organize home, organize time, etc. I have chosen three core tips to help you choose a professional organizer that is suitable for you personally. This may seem strange but I believe the skill of listening is one of the most important that a good professional organizer can have. If the professional organizer can not fully and completely listen to everything you are about and where you are coming from they will never be able to take you to a level of personal organization that satisfies you.

cont.

8

BIZBUZZ Choosing a professional organizer can be a cause for anxiety itself, which defeats the point of organization services. So here are some key insider tips from a professional organizer, on how you can choose a good professional organizer for your own style and way of doing things. Make a list of 10 or so professional organizers by doing a search online or in a phone directory. Contact them by phone or email and let them know you are contacting 9 others to find one suitable for you. This lets them know they can not ‘hard sell’ you. Take a look at their website, read some of their articles, and read their reply email or hear them out by phone. Tell them you still have the others to contact before making your decision. A good professional organizer will approve of your organized approach. On your check list you need to score them on ‘How good they listen to you and hear you out’. ‘How interesting and thoughtful their products and articles are’. ‘How their email response made you feel about them’. Those three factors alone will give you enough to be able to at least make a short list and might allow you to choose a professional organizer in no time at all. In modern life I believe time becomes so precious to the potential of opportunities and experiences life has to offer. Using a professional organizer will allow you to maximize the life opportunities you can take advantage of. "..time becomes to precious to the potential of opportunities and experiences life has to offer."

Winners never Quit and Quiters never win!

FOUNDER, SWAAV

The SwaaV Story

After leading a UN Research project for 10 months I was exhausted and sleep deprived. After submitting my report, my sleeping pattern was so disrupted that nothing could assist me to sleep, so I decided to travel to Lagos Nigeria. Lagos was like no place I had ever been to. It was humid, overly crowded, chaotic and was bustling with energy I’d never experienced before. I instantly fell in love with the pulsating energy of the city. The following day I was taken to the market place by my host and I was welcomed by a medley of colour and vibrance, I, to this day fail to encapsulate in words. The colours dazzled my senses, evoking both excitement and disbelief. Everything was so beautiful. My host gently held my hand and knowingly guided me through the maze of vendors selling their beautiful fabrics. I would occasionally stop her as I gazed at the magnificent fabrics. She would gently nudge me to keep on moving saying in her heavy accent, “Not original, not good.” We passed multitude of vendors before she started slowing down and let go of my hand. I looked around and found myself surrounded by the most beautiful and colourful fabrics. I loved the textures, their patterns and designs. I felt like I was in an oasis of colour and vibrance. She said to me, “You know you can make a dress with one of these fabrics?” I was taken aback. “Make?" I asked “Yes," she replied. "I can take you to the local tailor tomorrow." I was flabbergasted. The notion of having clothes made for me was inconceivable up until that moment. The following day we went to the tailor. My measurements were taken, and a few days later a dress that fit me perfectly was made. cont.

BIZBUZZ “You know you can make a dress with one of these

https://swaav.co.za/phaticaSA/

I was deliriously joyful. I thought to myself there must be people out there that have the same challenge as me. You see shopping for clothes was never fun for me. Although I found clothes that I liked; and I looked good in them, they always came short at the arms, because I have unusually long arms. Wearing those clothes did not evoke any confidence in me when I stepped out into the world.

When my holiday came to an end, I’d decided I wanted to share this joyful feeling I felt when I wore a dress that embraced all my unique features. Although I didn’t know what exactly I wanted, I knew this joyous feeling had to be shared. When I got back home my research skills went into overdrive. I soon found that this thing I wanted was called Image Consulting. I found a school nearby where I lived in Randburg, at that time, and I registered for a Diploma in colour and style image consulting. Thus a company called SwaaV was borne; a bespoke men's wear, image consulting company. Many people ask why gentlemen? I didn’t immediately have an answer, but when I reflected back on my days as a Researcher I noticed that, it was and still is, rare to come across programs that target boys, programs that empower boys. I thought to myself, 'Are we creating an imbalanced society?" Most programs are targeted at empowering girls and grooming girls to be confident and powerful. I realised that the successful gentlemen that I work with can be a powerful catalyst for bringing about change in our society.

BIZBUZZ Change is as Good as a Holiday Redesign Your Home written by Melissa Muirfield

You don't have to have a lot of money to decorate your home with style. Decorating can be expensive so there are several things you should think about to keep your budget as low as possible. The first thing you should do when you are budgeting your decorating and design for inside your home is know how much money you have to spend. You need to determine a payment plan or how much money you have for the room or space you want to decorate. Be sure to include the costs for accessories in the room also. When you are decorating on a budget you need to focus on one room at a time. It is hard to complete the entire home at once so your best option is to decorate each room separately. You can prioritize which rooms you would like to focus on first and begin with them.

"Interior design is making the best possible use of the available space."

"You don't have to have a lot of money to decorate your home with style."

Before you make any purchases on the interior design and schemes you have decided upon you should view the colors in your home with the different light schemes in the room. Be sure to view the colors you choose with natural light coming into the room and with lamps or the bulbs you will choose to light the room with.

cont.

14

BIZBUZZ You may completely disagree with the color schemes once you have decorated and then have to spend more money to change what you have decided upon. You should also think about the decorating and design you are going to do in the rooms of your home if you dont plan to be there for a long time.

"They always say change is as good as a holiday."

You dont want to spend a lot of money for major changes to the rooms. You should buy items that will spruce up the room and give you the look and feel you enjoy but that you can take with you when you go. You dont want to be decorating each room every time you move. This is perhaps why it would be a very good idea to work with a professional interior designer or stylist. They may actually save you money by giving you good advice and help you actually spending money unnecessarily. They always say change is as good as a holiday.

"Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit."-- Conrad Hilton

I love being hands on in this process. Over the years I have seen the change in how people value their surroundings. Technology has elevated the process of design with amazing products being developed. Space planning and designs can be shown on amazing 3D presentations. In order to be relevant in today's market it's important to embrace "new thinking". Every client is different and I work on a project keeping this in mind and develop and offer them an interior that I hope reflects their uniqueness. Something they can call their own as their interiors should reflect who they are.

The Power of Vision and Intention

AUTHOR

Good intentions are useless until they are expressed in appropriate action

– Napoleon Hill

I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) at the age of sixteen. It didn’t come as a surprise as the majority of my "IF YOU WANT family, including my father and brother also had this hereditary disease that destroys the rods and cones in the THE RAINBOW retina. Even though I was born with rather decent vision, the THEN YOU older I get, the more my vision deteriorates. Complete blindness is a real possibility. HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THE RAIN" As I entered my thirties, and I started noticing more and more issues with my vision, I decided that I wasn’t about to allow going blind keep me from experiencing everything that -DOLLY PARTON I wanted to accomplish. However, I knew I was on borrowed time and I had better get going on that list. I created a vision board. If you have never done this, for your life or for your business, once you have finished this article, I suggest you put one together. A vision board is simple to create and serves multiple purposes: It forces you to think through exactly what you want to accomplish It is a visual representation – meaning you are setting an INTENTION It is a reminder every day of what your overall goals are regardless of your to-do list Crossing off these achievements once completed feels AMAZING

cont.

BIZBUZZ

18

www.melaniltaylor.com

Creating my vision board gave me the motivation I needed to get out there are do everything I wanted. I included activities such as; finish my MBA, be a TedX speaker, become a college professor, live near the ocean, write a book, and other items. There were activities on that list I never thought were possible to achieve. After crossing off a few accomplishments, I started to really believe that I could get through my entire list.

Just after my 40th birthday, I crossed off the last item. I had "After crossing off a few accomplished everything that I had set out to do and It felt amazing. I celebrated those achievements. Each activity had accomplishments, I started to really believe that I enriched my life, whether it was through new experiences, new relationships, or new knowledge. At that time, I only had could get through my 10% of my vision remaining, which sounds small, but I still had entire list...." enough to do more. So, I put together another vision board. I’m reaching even bigger this time with my goals. This is the power of having a vision for your life and setting an intention to have whatever it is you want. According to a study at Dominican University in California conducted by Dr. Gail Matthews, you are 42% more likely to accomplish your goals if you write them down. 42 percent!

As entrepreneurs you are hustling every day. You are most likely drained by the time your head hits the pillow every night. Take the time to set a vision for yourself, for your business. Create that vision board. Write it down, cut photos out of magazines, doodle, whatever you need to do! Just get it on paper. Create the life you want to live. And then cross off everything as you earn your own accomplishments.

I believed I could, and I believe you can.

Let's connect! Watch my Tedx speech, purchased a signed copy of my book, download the vision board writing prompt, hire me for coaching or speaking, and tell me your accept, prepare, cope story all at melaniltaylor.com.

BIZBUZZ Benefits of a Virtual Assistant written by Kate Eke

The constant ringing of telephones and a somehow mountainous pile of paper work can slow down even the most organized start-up business or entrepreneurial venture. Yet for many, the cost of hiring a full-time Administrative Support Assistant is prohibitive and, for many people, simply impractical. Very few start-up businesses have the resources to pay employee related expenses such as vacation pay, health insurance, retirement benefits, etc. Ignoring the never-ending stack of paperwork could result in holding back your new business before it has even started.

A possible solution could be to hire a Virtual Administrative Support Assistant. More and more people are turning to these highly skilled eprofessionals for help. A Virtual Administrative Support Assistant (V.A.) is an experienced executive assistant who has their own business, with her/his own fax machines, computers, scanners and telephone lines, not to mention a wide array of popularly used software programs, resources and skill. She or he can do secretarial and clerical duties including but not limited to: basic record keeping, database and contact management, keeping your website sparkly and up-todate, calling your clients and confirming appointments, not to mention the hundreds of other useful tasks that can be lifted from your fingers into able bodied hands. But perhaps most important of all, she can do these things with the highest professional ethics and skill without ever stepping into your office. The V.A. has materialized as a result of a corporate downsizing, economic feasibility and the lure and attractiveness of many e-workers and e-entrepreneurs that enjoy the freedom of working out of their own office space.

cont.

20

BIZBUZZ As more and more people have become self employed, developments in telecommunications have allowed them the ability to accomplish a vast amount of work from an off-site location. Apart from taking on your administrative overload, the V.A. can help promote your corporate creed, philosophy and image to clients, lending a professional stability that may otherwise be lacking. If you have V.A.’s in several time zones, you can have true 24/7 support for your company. Support such as this is especially important in the growth phase of the company, when the business is trying to get off the ground, and bringing in new sales is vital, at a fraction of the conventional cost of a full time administrator.

"Support such as this is especially important in the growth phase of the company..."

Should you think about hiring a V.A.? If you are an entrepreneur, are self-employed or do not have the resources to justify an office with a full-time Support Assistant… than yes, possibly you should! People who hire V.A.’s are often people who are consistently traveling, or who need to have someone maintaining their business concerns while they are away or who are otherwise occupied, i.e.: Stockbrokers, Real Estate Agents, Coaches, Consultants, Salespersons and Motivational Speakers all commonly utilize the power of Virtual Assistants.

The number of new V.A.’s grows every day, largely due to the increased presence of trade organizations that aim to benchmark and solidify the V.A. field. Many V.A.’s have the ability to service clients worldwide, so if your company has a London, Chicago Johannesburg offices. you can have high quality administrative support in all locations! So, it makes sense to consider out-sourcing much of your administrative overload to a Virtual Assistant.

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
