31 Bits · Kallie Dovel · International Director · www.31bits.com · Booth 2512 How did 31 Bits get started? I traveled to Uganda in the summer of 2007 and met women who were creating beads made out of paper, but lacked a plan to market and sell them. After spending time in their homes and hearing their stories I knew there had to be a way to give opportunities to my new friends. I spent the next year dreaming up a concept for a development organization. I brought a few friends on board and our ideas quickly evolved into 31 Bits. We traveled back to Uganda in August 2008 and selected six women to begin buying jewelry from on a monthly basis. Tell us a little about the designers. I create the 31 Bits’ jewelry designs along with our U.S. team and the women in Uganda make the jewelry. There are now 110 different Ugandan women that contribute to making the jewelry. What materials are used in your collections making them so unique? Each bead is made out of 100% recycled paper that has been dyed to fit the current season’s trends. Glass beads, leather fabric and stainless steel clasps also make up the jewelry. Look closely! It’s hard to tell that the beads are actually made out of paper. How has the brand developed over time? There has been much growth in Uganda – growing from just 6 women in the beginning to 110. We’ve grown to being sold only on the Vanguard Campus to being sold in more than 400 stores and boutiques. The programs in Uganda have grown significantly and now offer education, finance and business training for the women. In addition, our press has grown to reach Stylewatch, E! News and the Today Show. How can your fans get involved? There are so many opportunities for our fans to get involved such as throw a 31 Bits house party, attend a trunk show or launch party, follow us on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, 31 Bits Blog), and purchase 31 Bits at a boutique nearby. Wear your 31 Bits and share the story with your friends! What is your personal fashion philosophy? “Fashion for good.” We believe that what we wear should not only be fashionable - which we love - but sustainable as well!
accessoriestheshow Vilaiwan Fine Jewelry · Joe Vilaiwan · Owner/Designer · www.vilaiwan.com · Booth 2110 What has been your main source of inspiration in creating the Vilaiwan Fine Jewelry brand? Beauty and art in all aspects have inspired me to create these prolific jewelry collections. I am inspired by the organic forms of nature and use my talent and style to transform the petals or the natural forms of flowers into beautiful necklaces, wrought from natural shells, pearls or semi-precious stones. My ability to master color and texture make my jewelry designs look extraordinary, unique and special. When did you first start designing jewelry? I grew up in my family’s prestigious fine diamond business. Demonstrating early natural talent for artful design, I started to design my first pieces of jewelry when I was 12 years old for my mother’s renowned jewelry store in Bangkok. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? As a jewelry designer, I have to attend a lot of social events, but I actually have a very shy personality; I am a homebody. Also, I neither drink nor smoke or even drink coffee. Tell us a little about your collaboration with Disney for Oz the Great and Powerful. This was my first time working with Disney and I did a lot of research including visiting an Oz prop room. My pieces capture precise elements from the scenes in the film. In keeping with my signature style, I designed the Oz the Great and Powerful jewelry collection as wearable art. I think of them as sculptures that sparkle from every angle, but move very sensually with the body. What is your personal background in the fashion industry? I followed my artistic pursuits in the art of design and was educated in the United States. I received a Masters degree from UCLA in 2000 for Interior Design and a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM. During this period, I also was employed by Macy’s Department Store as Senior Visual Concept Designer where I was responsible for the art direction of the stores in addition to all the in-store displays. Over the years, I have had many retail consulting projects, both domestically as well as for clients overseas.

Art of Cloth · Rose Corrick · CEO/Designer · www.artofcloth.com · Booth 1330 Describe your Holiday/Resort 13-14 collection. Art of Cloth’s 2013-14 Holiday/Resort Collection represents our ongoing collaboration between fashion and art. Our mission of “inspiring women through artistry in fashion” continues as we introduce bold, graphic patterns and color for our Resort look alongside subtle, shimmering textures for our Holiday look. From where do you draw inspiration? Nature always informs our color schemes. This season, “shoreline” suggests a tropical beach with sunny yellows, gorgeous aquas, and luscious neutral colors; “reef” brings rich tones of corals, deep periwinkles, and chartreuses. We find inspiration also comes from our studio environment. From the layered colors and textures inspired by our studio drop cloths, to the screen print made from our anti-slip rubber floor mats, we express the beauty and whimsy we see in our unique, everyday life at the studio. How do you incorporate ancient and modern hand-dying and surface techniques into your designs? At Art of Cloth, I believe that we are in an uncommon position in the fashion world. We bring together art, craft, and fashion in a uniquely fluid way that sets us apart. By combining ancient techniques such as shibori and hand-dying with contemporary silhouettes, we design a collection that is fashion forward while maintaining a sense of its artistic heritage. Tell us a little about how your artistic journey transitioned into your career in fashion. With a lifelong love of textiles and an education in Textile Design, I made a career change midlife and followed a dream that I have had since childhood: to bring beautiful textiles to the world. There is a rich history of Art of Cloth and its humble beginnings in the basement of my Cleveland, Ohio home. Today, 16 artisans collaborate to design and produce our collections that are now sold throughout the United States and Internationally. In your opinion, what is the distinction between style and fashion? Fashion is transitory, while good style transcends fashion trends. We are influenced by fashion trends at Art of Cloth, but are more interested in developing a style that serves the lifestyles of our customers and the timelessness of art. We have succeeded when our customer wears our garment and makes it her own.
MODA MANHATTAN Effie’s Heart · Kimo Frazzitta · Owner/Designer · www.effiesheart.com · booth 1273 What is the history behind the brand’s name Effie’s Heart? I named the company after my kind and adventurous Great Aunt Effie. Describe your Holiday/Resort 13-14 collection. I kept Holiday/Resort in the same spirit as all of the collections at Effie’s Heart - wearable, classic, easy to care for, and comfortable. The theme this season is color and theatre. We’ve got ballerinas, red roses and city light prints while our main color inspirations this season are crimson red, mustard and hints of trendy mint. What factors do you feel are important when incorporating vintage style into your modern designs? Vintage style must translate to the modern woman. I try not to be too literal. Clothing of the past often required restrictive undergarments, had complicated closures and were made of uncomfortable fabrics that had to be ironed. My clothing is the anthesis of this. There is a wink of nostalgia in my design, but overall the garments are incredibly modern and comfortable. What were the first steps you took in the world of fashion? Right after I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, I got an internship in a costume shop for theatre. I ended up working in this field for years. This was an excellent second education and is where I gained knowledge of fashion from different time periods. What is the best advice you have ever received? Adventure begins just beyond your comfort zone. In your opinion, what is the distinction between style and fashion? Fashion is time and trend-based. Style is timeless and stays with a person for their whole life.

Bluejuice · Mish Vizesi · Head Designer · www.bluejuice.com.au · Booth 652 Describe the Bluejuice girl. The Bluejuice girl wants the latest on trend pieces with a twist at an affordable price point. She loves fashion but has fun with it and wears it her own way. She wants an adaptable wardrobe with a few statement party dresses that can take her from desk to date or beach to bar. What are some of your favorite retailers in the United States that currently carry Bluejuice? We are lucky to have some really supportive retailers in the U.S. such as Urban Outfitters, Amazon.com, South Moon Under, ModCloth.com, Swoon Boutique and Vanilla Sky. Tell us a little about the line’s celebrity and pop culture inspiration. The Bluejuice girl loves celebrities. Therefore, I look to the latest “It” girls for inspiration. Cara Delevingne is my current fave; she has a unique way of styling her wardrobe and has a quirky sense of humor that our market identifies with. I also take strong direction from upcoming music, film and TV. For example, The Great Gatsby and Game of Thrones have been high on the radar here in Sydney the last few months so I have reflected some of that inspiration in the ranges. What is one “must-have” item from your Immediate Holiday/Resort 13-14 collection? The Queen of Sheba dress! It’s a digital print bodycon dress with a majestic lion’s head draped in jewels and striking gold sequin panels. This is THE dress to wear if you want to be noticed. How has the label developed over time? Bluejuice is the youngest label in the Seduce family and was originally conceived as a faster to market, more price-pointed sister label. We’ve definitely grown a lot and are now forging our own identity as a stand alone brand. Bluejuice has now started to branch into exclusive development for some large retailers, which has proved to be successful, and we plan on expanding that going forward. How would you define your city’s fashion? Our office is based in Sydney in an area which has a diverse mix of young people of different cultures and a thriving art and music scene. It is a great place to people watch as there are cool little cafés, bars and galleries on every corner. Fashion here is very experimental. It’s really inspiring.
FAME Nameless · Jennifer Park · Creative Director · booth 258 Describe the Nameless girl. The Nameless girl is a trendsetter. She is not afraid of taking chances or standing out in a crowd. She defines herself with original ideas and style (rather than a label) and is always looking for high-quality pieces at affordable prices. Since the brand’s creation in Spring 2012, how has it evolved into one of the most sought after young contemporary brands? Through social media and the help of our retailers, we have received high demand. We are praised for providing our consumers with pieces that force heads to turn by utilizing rich colors and varied textures. How do you go about deciding which trends are important for the season? I trust my instincts when it comes to trends. I observe and research, but mostly think about what I would really wear. What are some reoccurring trends the brand has focused on this season? This season our brand has focused on the punk grunge and sporty-luxe themes. We channeled the 90s grunge rock bands and interpreted them in our own ways. What is one “must-have” item from your Immediate Holiday/Resort 13-14 collection? Our faux leather overalls are a “must-have” this season. What is a key factor in producing high-quality fashion at an affordable price point? I never compromise when it comes to high-quality fabrics and trims. I try to custom develop great fabric with mills that have competitive prices. How do you personally stay up-to-date with fashion? I love to shop and I travel all over the world for new and innovative finds! What is your favorite New York City hangout? When I am in the city, I love revisiting my favorite restaurants such as Mercer Kitchen and Supper. I just really enjoy great food with great company.

Prints on patterns will be seen on every kind of silhouette. Fabrics are given the distressed treatment artfully creating disheveled finishes and textures. Color palettes ranging from camels to lodens, but don’t fret red is still a major player. Purple, from the faintest hue to the deepest grape. The hippie look stays strong but simplified! Denim in all the glorious washes. FAME is where you will find all of these fantastic buys at the August show!
