Marie Joe de Oliveira · Artistic Director · www.cop-copine.com · Booth 623 Who is the Cop. Copine woman? The Cop. Copine woman is a curious and cosmopolitan woman with a strong personality who enjoys life with a natural, fun and spontaneous touch. She is also sensitive to unconventional and creative design.
Which specific blends of materials and innovative fabrics create your original dynamic style? Famous for innovation, our everyday challenge is to create unexpected combinations with technical and comfortable fabrics.
What is one key ingredient in the company’s success over the past twenty years? We are recognized for our “unique twist” with creative and inventive designs in Ready-to-Wear since 1986. Our team and our know-how are key strengths that have and still do determine our passion for innovation.
How has Cop. Copine enabled the brand to interact with its customers? We are active on blogs and social networks such as Facebook. We also develop ambitious cross-channel client programs.
What is the best advice you have ever received? “Where there’s a will, there is a way!”
In your opinion, what is the distinction between style and fashion? Style is an attitude while fashion represents an ephemeral trend.
Describe the My Tribe woman. The My Tribe customer is a woman who recognizes fresh designs that can make her look classy or contemporary with an international touch.
What are some reoccurring trends the brand has focused on this season? This season the brand has focused on its traditional and trendy leather mixed with fabric and perforated skins.
What is one “must-have” item from the Transition/Fall 14 collection? We would recommend our open front leather jacket (MT055) that is active yet classy. It comes in various tones from cobalt to sand.
How does the brand achieve its signature style through its timeless collection of wardrobe staples? The knowledge we have of the fabrics and material has made us really aware of our touch and it became only natural to recognize the My Tribe signature style.
What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice we ever received is to always believe in what we are doing.
If you were not a principal of this brand, what would you be doing? I would be trying my best to accomplish something similar.
Jean-Pierre Guez · President · www.my-tribe.net · Booth 1013
Revital Vidal · Owner/Designer · www.laurenvidalusa.com · Booth 512 Describe Lauren Vidal’s Transition/Fall 14 collection. It’s a come back to the feminine style, sober and sophisticated. Fall moves softly in our wardrobe with knits enriched with lace.
Which elements help achieve the brand’s ‘fullness and femininity, minimalism and glamour’ of its designs? One focus is on the trendy synthetic fur colored with graphical patterns and mellow styling into wide collars and jackets.
Where can this collection be found? We have a Lauren Vidal store on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (2450 Broadway at 91st Street). The collection is also sold to 600 boutiques all over the United States.
When a woman is shopping your collection, how should she go about choosing an outfit most fitting for herself? A woman should go with fit and not size. Embrace what you have; not what you don’t or want to hide.
What do you consider to be the world’s best fashion city? Paris for the trends, novelty, newness, taste, color, architecture, food, and the city’s beauty.
What is your personal fashion philosophy? “Offhand but sophisticated.”
Tell us briefly how Save The Queen! got its start. Save The Queen! first saw the light with its Summer 2000 collection. I love art even more than fashion and I indulged my passion for beauty and research in a collection of t-shirts with a distinct focus on prints originating from handmade designs. The collection became authentic very quickly with global recognition and ultimately became what it is today.
What role does “Made in Italy” play in the overall design of this brand? The raw materials used are Italian and every single phase of processing for the product is carried out exclusively in Italy. For this brand, “Made in Italy” is a consummate history of talent, culture of elegance, craftsmanship, innovation and attention to detail.
How should a woman ideally feel when wearing this line? A woman should feel romantic, feminine and sexy.
Does the brand try to keep with the trends or create its own? Originality is our main focus. Save The Queen! is a journey through cultures, people, myths and through different historical eras in a quest to find new or forgotten worlds. This is the “Queen to be saved” narrated through prints and embroideries.
How would you define your city’s fashion? Florence is rich in history and culture and is a casket of artistic masterpieces conserved in world famous buildings and museums. The dressing is romantic and artistic.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? In my family-owned company, we marry both our personal and business lives. I bring my grandchildren to the office and carry them on my hip.
Elena Fantini · Founder · www.savethequeen.com · Booth 632 5
Melanie Barse · Lead Designer/VP · www.barse.com · Booth 256 What do you think will draw retailers to the Barse collection this upcoming season? Our bold use of colorful stones like vibrant orange, sponge coral, blue-green turquoise, deep blue lapis and purple opal.
What is the meaning behind the brand’s name? The name Barse is an artistic legacy. My great-uncle, George Randolph Barse, is a renowned American artist with art in museums and institutions throughout the nation including the Library of Congress.
How has the company developed over time? Originally, my focus was exclusively on sterling. However, with the price rising over the past several years, the Barse look of bold and richly detailed pieces became cost prohibitive. My designs now also incorporate the metals of bronze, copper and silver overlay. This way, Barse lovers can still get the rich, bold looks they want in a more affordable selection.
Where can your jewelry be found? On Home Shopping Network, where I have my own segment called Studio Barse, as well as Dillard’s, select boutiques and catalogs.
What materials and techniques are used in Barse designs that help make its jewelry so unique? Organic stone shapes and unusual tonal mixtures have become a trademark for Barse. Most stones used in Barse designs are cut from huge rough pieces that we source from miners around the world. They are cut in our own factory by our expert lapidaries, so we are not limited to ordinary geometric shapes that you can find anywhere. Also, the Barse factory utilizes the age-old practice of lost-wax casting. This method allows for the rich details and flawless finishes that you will find in our pieces. It is rare in today’s jewelry market to find an affordable designer that does not use ‘stamped out’ methods of production, and the quality shows in Barse Jewelry.
How do you personally stay up to date with fashion? Like anyone, I look to magazines and trend shopping in the fashion forward cities of the world. But the thing I always do is stay true to my personal style. I like a Bohemian flair mixed with classic pieces from around the world that have interesting textures and patterns; a real global feel.
Tell us about the founding principle behind the OKA b. brand. OKA b. is founded on the principle that fashion and comfort should never be mutually exclusive. Imagine a shoe that not only looks great with every outfit but feels great with every step.
What are a few things about your products that set them apart from other comfort shoes in the market? We are ergonomic, non-slip, non-mark and colorfast. A sandal given the thumbs up by your doctor and your best friend. A slide that matches your wedding gown and massages your feet as you dance down the aisle. A flip-flop so stylish it’s featured in fashion magazines. A shoe that’s recyclable, waterproof, made in the USA and most styles are under $45.
Where is OKA b. made? Our products are handcrafted just outside of Atlanta in Buford, Georgia.
How can you recycle your OKA b. flip flops and sandals? OKA b. shoes are recyclable according to International Universal Recycling Code Number 3. Customers can now send their well–loved shoes to our corporate headquarters, where they will be ground and mixed with virgin material to create new product.
What is your personal fashion philosophy? Comfort does not exclude chic! You can be stylish, put together and comfortable all at the same time.
What three items are essential to you during market week? Our catalog showcasing our latest and greatest styles, our sales team who is so energetic and fun with a huge love for our brand, and of course, a great pair of ballet flats for being on our feet all day!
Naomi Wakatake · Creative Director · www.okab-trade.com · Booth 127
Meena Malik · Designer · www.jewelrybymeena.com · Booth 212 What is your main source of inspiration when designing? At the core of each design is strength and energy that creates a positive aura and makes a fashion statement.
Who or what is your greatest fashion influence? My greatest fashion influence comes from mixing the East and West cultures, movies and celebrities.
What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice I have ever received is to never give up your dream and keep trying until you achieve it.
What goes into each design to ensure Jewelry by Meena pieces are truly one of a kind? My jewelry is for a modern woman who appreciates being a trendsetter and wants to make a fashion statement while still being a sophisticated socialite. My designs are modern yet classic in their own way. Each piece highlights the natural beauty of the stone; the vibrant color, the multi facets and the touch of the stone to the body provides peace and harmony.
How do you personally stay on top of the newest and hottest trends in accessories? I keep up with the latest by creating designs that start new trends. Secondly, I look for the trends through social media, magazines and celebrities.
Where is your product made? All Pietro Alessandro handbags are proudly made in the USA – in the heart of the Garment District in New York City. We are one of the last factories standing and still in the same location as we were when first started by my father, Pierre Dabagh, over 30 years ago. He spends his time in the factory overseeing the skilled artisans that produce every Pietro Alessandro handbag.
What should a woman’s handbag say about her? A woman’s handbag helps describe her “pursenality.” Some of our customers prefer our eclectic color blocks of rich vivid color which shows a more adventurous side. When I see a woman carrying one of our large convertible styles - our “Manhattan” fold over shopper for instance - I believe she is confident, trendy and organized.
What is your brand doing to address the growing importance of social media? Today social media plays an important role in engaging our loyal customers. We post multiple times a day on Facebook and Instagram as well as work closely with many fashion bloggers. We are also able to post pictures of new styles and get instant feedback before we produce for the market. The responses from our followers help us decide which styles to continue with and what colors women want to see.
In your opinion, what is the distinction between style and fashion? Fashion is what the media creates buzz about. When I think of fashion, I think of trends and designs that are “in.” However, style is a personal thing. Everyone has style and it’s how you take what’s “in fashion” and make it your own.
How does the company’s meticulous attention to craftsmanship help distinguish the brand? Our soft luxurious leathers, attention to detail and fine craftsmanship ensure our bags will last. That is what our loyal customers have come to expect, and it’s what they get from every Pietro Alessandro handbag.
