1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? Since starting this module I would day that I have a better understanding about print processes and commercial printing which has allowed me to design work that can be commercially printed. Time management is always going to be an issue but allocating certain times to blogging / research has allowed me to utilise my time better. The software workshops with Mike have proven to be quite useful allowing me to develop my Photoshop & InDesign skills, and building on what I始ve learnt in the workshops within my design practice. In the same way the Typography sessions with Graham have been a real focus within my design practice, during this module I have been more cautious in the way in which I use typography and definitely have a much better understanding. 2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? This module has given me a real insight into commercial print and this has had a huge impact in the way in which I approach design. From the start of the project I felt that stock was going to be a major factor in my design process so I had to consider my designs according to the stock that I had chosen. Knowing how artwork is commercially printed has made me understand print limitations but also just how much you can push the boundaries of print, having an understanding of print finishes has also given me great insight into how I can develop my designs. 3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? It might have taken me a while to have a relevant concept but I think that for the first time I have really considered just how important the concept is when it comes to designing and without it your designs don始t tend to communicate anything effectively. Bearing this in mind I have allowed myself to come up with designs and ideas that are relevant. Since having the Typography workshops with Graham I have found that I really want to develop my typography skills; this project has allowed me to create a piece of design where the type has been well considered along with this I think I have a better understanding of composition and layout which has benefitted my designs. I think in the future I can go on to develop my type and layout skills further, and maybe push myself more within my design practice.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? Although overall Iʼm quite happy with the concept behind the project I felt that It took me a while to really have a focused idea, which meant that I wasnʼt designing and was also unsure as to what I really needed to research. I would say in the future I would need to look at defining my concept early on so that I give myself enough time to research and develop the designs. Talking of research I felt that I ended up researching in blocks rather than have a fluid amount of research that was driving my design practice. Towards the end of the project I did find that as I knew what I needed to research it became more relevant. Iʼve also felt that I havenʼt been drawing much during this module, itʼs been a struggle even getting my ideas onto paper and this is quite an issue so really need to get back in drawing for the next module.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? / 1 Define my concept as soon as possible rather than leaving it too late and then not being able to make up my mind. / 2 Have a more informed understanding about commercial print processes so that my design practice is more considered. / 3 Keep on top of my design context blog and have a better understanding of what I need to research in order to make the most out of my design practice. / 4 Have a sketchbook that is just for drawing – donʼt think Iʼve been able to keep all my design sheets together, at least in my sketchbook Iʼll know where everything is. / 5 Talk to more people about my work, find that when youʼve been starting at the same thing for 7 hours you just assume it looks alright without asking for a second opinion. 6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ʻxʼ) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1

Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group x The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
