Working collaboratively with Sadie has been really good, both of us had completely different skills but we came together to create the most effective solution for the brief. We both worked equally putting in the same amount of hard work! Iʼve got to give it to Sadie for having excellent communication skills whilst getting in touch with Lola & Grace as well as the PR company Yellow-Door. Considering that most of the work that I have produced so far during this year has been type based, during this part of the module I have found that I have been working with more illustration and pattern based design, this meant that I was able to create the most effective solution for the brief. Having always been quite interested in packaging, I really worked hard to create an effective range of packaging that was quite unique but really fitted the Lola & Grace brand well. Research was a major part of this module, me and Sadie found that as we researched into the brand our design practice took a different route – which in the end meant that we worked on something that wasnʼt a conventional solution to the brief. As we were looking into jewellery and fashion I found myself researching a different range of designers for inspiration for this brief – whilst keeping in mind the kind of direction the brand wanted to go into. Overall I would say that my major strengths within the module were focusing on the patterns and illustrations, although I had originally started working on some ideas in illustrator I found that working by hand and going back to drawing was much better suited. I also worked on the layout for the pitch boards to Lola & Grace as well as the final boards to YCN. I found that myself and Sadie managed to take some really great photographs – by using the lighting from photography we were able to create the best photographs for our final boards. I wouldnʼt say that there were any major weaknesses on either mine or Sadieʼs behalf during this brief – I think we worked as well as we could and came up with a great product range and proposal. I feel that by pitching the idea direct to Lola & Grace me and Sadie managed to really show what we were both capable of achieving. Iʼve really found this part of the module both challenging but exciting at the same time. Itʼs not something I would have been able to produce on my own and working with Sinead OʼHerlihy from Fashion also proved to be quite successful.
