DESCRIPTION
Anthology at Tuckahoe is located in idyllic Henrico, Virginia amidst the lush green surroundings of nearby nature parks, the 100-acre Maymont Park estate, and the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. At Tuckahoe, you will discover elegance in senior living, experienced during a stroll through the manicured grounds, practicing your swing in the golf simulator, or taking in a gourmet meal at the bistro, pub, or formal dining room. Anthology at Tuckahoe provides all the comforts and liberties of home, accommodating active senior residents who want to elevate their lifestyle and have ease of access to premium experiences, services, and amenities.
DELIVERING THE WOW
Residents and guests are welcomed into a unique amenity space that serves as the heart of the community – the bistro. BKV’s design team created the space to serve as a communal spot for gathering, enjoying a cup of coffee, or savoring beverages and snacks. The design of the bistro feels natural and artisanal with a muted color palette, lighter and warmer woods, a floor-toceiling forest-themed wall mural, and a lighted trellis that hovers over and defines the grab-and-go bistro.
Hub & Spoke Amenity Design
The greatest challenge of this project was effectively addressing the variety of amenities desired by the client, and where to thoughtfully place them throughout the building. This entailed striking a balance of location, and making it so any one resident is close to at least one amenity. The resulting design solution at Tuckahoe was to use the bistro as the central hub which the other amenity “spokes” could extend from. In doing so, this created destinations within the Tuckahoe community while
organizing the amenities by functionality –specifically which amenities required darker environments (see: the theater), and which required the most daylight and/or access to outdoors (see: the four seasons room adjacent to café and dining rooms). The last variable addressed was aligning with the senior residents’ interests, thus a residents’ options are plentiful including a pub, multiple lounge spaces, a game room, and the aforementioned bistro, theater, and four seasons spaces.
Emphasis on Wellness
In order for residents to live their best life within a dynamic and engaging community, a personalized health and wellness program is integrated into the Tuckahoe community through the fitness spaces available for physical therapy sessions to support the body, and activity rooms for crafts and games to stimulate the mind. There is also a wellness spa and salon which exude the feel of “going out” for your cosmetic needs, and for those with a golf proclivity, there is a state-of-the-art simulator.
