PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COUNCIL TAKES TIME TO CONSIDER INSPIRED BOLD IDEAS Innisfil, ON (May 11, 2011) – Tonight at a Special Council Meeting focused on the Inspiring Innisfil project, renaming Innisfil, one of many bold and “game changing” ideas, was proposed to Innisfil Town Council. As the first of many key priorities proposed for Council’s consideration, finding a new name and creating an Innisfil identity that unites the Town, would be central to making Innisfil “the place to be by 2020”. Becoming the place to be by 2020 was the overall theme of the inspirational meeting, where the final overview of the Inspiring Innisfil 2020 community consultation was presented. Innisfil Mayor Barb Baguley feels that now is the right time for forward moving change. “Now Council will step back, which is something that we have asked all Inspiring Innisfil stakeholders to do. We will step back to take a look at everything that has been presented and take enough time to consider the potential of the proposed strategies.” Members of Town Council are excited about the opportunity to take positive new steps that will re-shape and change perceptions of Innisfil’s community, culture, tourism and economy. As for the proposal to find a new name for Innisfil, Mayor Baguley said, “We all know of major companies that have rebranded or renamed themselves over time; it’s a course of business. Innisfil is at a defining crossroad: where we can decide to just stay the way we have been or we can decide to move progressively forward. Finding a new name and creating a unifying identity are the starting points for Innisfil to become the place to be by 2020.” Mayor Baguley added, “If it takes a little while for everyone to find their comfort level, we are totally willing to take our time in the interests of moving forward. Everyone needs to understand and embrace the fact that moving these concepts forward is truly a lifetime project.” The four areas of focus, community, culture, tourism and economy, along with a number of key strategies for each, were identified through the Inspiring Innisfil Community Consultation project. At next week’s Council Meeting on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, having had a week to consider the proposed strategies, Council expects to confirm Innisfil’s strategic direction.
