COOL STUFF
Where did January go? The first month of 2023 has practically zoomed by, with the promise of lighter days and evenings feeling slightly more tangible than before.
But even though January isn’t the best month for adventures, there has still been a decent smattering of cool products to keep things interesting. Let’s check them out...
Google Maps Update
Canon EOS R Cameras from £789

THE ultra-lightweight camera market is a big deal these days as established manufacturers try to rival the smartphones in everyone’s pockets for image supremacy. Canon – one of the biggest names in the business – has just released a pair of featherweight snappers designed to offer big image quality in a small size.
Both the R8 and R50 are mirrorless cameras but can rival full-frame DSLR cameras for versatility. They can shoot in just over 25-megapixel quality, while 4K video means they’re great for movies, too.
Philips Ambilight

£TBC
THERE’S a lot of television to choose from these days, with streaming services and online providers making the process of picking something to watch even trickier. However, at least once you’ve decided, the Philips Ambilight will ensure that whatever you’re watching looks as good as possible.
It’s been upgraded with better brightness than before, while a clever on-board system helps to match the television’s display with the surroundings. It also retains the excellent in-built Bowers and Wilkins sound system that was in the previous model.
GOOGLE Maps is something thousands of people in the UK use each day to get around.
Now Google has stepped things up a notch with a revision that uses artificial intelligence and ‘computer vision’ to combine its traditional street view with aerial images that create maps you can practically ‘walk’ through.
Due to be rolled out in London to begin with, the system even lets you select different times of the day to see what the weather will be like then.
DJI RS 3 Mini
£339
IT’S quite incredible how far camera stabilisation has come in recent years.
Far from being the big, unwieldy units of old, they’re now almost micro-sized yet able to deliver a superb amount of stabilisation no matter what the conditions are.
The new DJI RS 3 Mini weighs in at just 800g yet has some of the very latest stabilisation technology, horizontal and vertical camera mounting and even a 1.4-inch colour touchscreen. You’ll be mimicking Spielberg in no time...
