There has never been a better time to be in the beef business and especially with Red Angus cattle. The American consumer continues to incorporate beef as a mainstay in their diets due to beef's versatility, protein content, taste, and overall nutrition. Red Angus genetics play an important role in providing that consistent, quality product American consumers demand.
Red Angus have always been about the commercial cattleman which is evident with the many marketing programs geared toward the Red Angus commercial calf as well as certain Index EPDs, like HB, GM and ProS. Most importantly, the Red Angus breed continues to focus on efficiency and the bottom line, which is paramount for commercial herds. Red Angus cattle haven't changed with what is popular in the show ring but keeps improving on performance-based genetics slowly over time.
Being the President of the New York Red Angus Association has allowed me to travel to many Red Angus operations in the Northeast and realize the quality of cattle that are the foundation in every herd. These quality cattle can stand with any Red Angus cattle in the country.
So, as you consider adding quality replacement females and purchasing new herd bulls, start with the Red Angus breeders found within this membership directory. The cattle from these herds will bring the traits that are at the core of Red Angus: carcass quality, maternal characteristics, calving ease, and moderate size. In addition, Red Angus offer uniformity, good disposition, and outstanding feeding characteristics.
