BCA EDUCATION OFFER Our solutions support schools and education institutions to prepare young people for a range of in-demand 3D skills. BCA offer solutions ranging from introductory teacher training to structured courses in 3D technologies. Courses and Curriculum BCA has developed a range of short and full courses in core subjects that lead to recognised qualifications. Our courses come with access to a comprehensive range of multimedia classroom resources. Tiered content covers core areas of the Design and Technology and Computing curriculums for ages 7 to 19. Teacher Training and Support BCA provides training and curriculum support to deliver all of our courses. We also work with schools through tailored co-teaching programmes, giving everyone the benefit of in class teacher training and continued access to BCA expertise.

All our courses come with full lesson plans and schemes of works mapped to the UK national curriculum. We also provide step-by-step video and written instructions so you have all the resources you need to teach with confidence. What’s more, we provide suggested differentiated learning materials so you can allow your students to choose to learn in a style that suits their pace of progression. Our courses are regularly updated and refreshed with new project work so that students are kept engaged. We ensure that our projects are current and respresent industry trends. A FOUNDATION TO BUILD UPON

SHORT COURSES

BCA offers a range of short courses specialising in 3D technologies. BCA short courses are aimed at schools and students coming to 3D technologies for the first time or wanting to develop their skills in a particular area. They give teachers and students valuable insight into the specific ways technology is used in different industries. Short courses last between half to one term and BCA are at hand to guide you through the process. Full teacher training, support and lesson plan resources are available. Our range of short courses are perfect to build a foundation for further learning. Some of our courses carry a qualification in Additive Manufacturing, QCF Level 1, 2 and 3 Awards. These Awards are industry accredited and take students through a series of projects that reflect the challenging design and engineering opportunities facing professionals working at the forefront of 3D design and advanced manufacturing. BCA short courses cover a number of materials and systems, from metals and resins to plastics and even paper. Students can choose to specialise in engineering, product design, or fashion and textiles.

Our short courses include: 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing QCF): 3D printing introduces the technology and how it is used across multiple disciplines and industries. This is a versatile course covering the 3D CAD process and the engineering principles of 3D printers themselves. Student learning outcomes: 3D printing, 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), geometry, STEM, spatial awareness, Computer Numeric Control (CNC), material science. 3D Printing For Consumer Product Design (Additive Manufacturing QCF): With a specific focus on consumer products this course looks at how 3D printing is used in product design, development, prototyping, and manufacture. Student learning outcomes: 3D printing, 3D CAD, product design, design thinking, geometry, STEM, form and function, spatial awareness, material science, assemblies and manufacture.

3D Printing For Fashion (Additive Manufacturing QCF): 3D Printing for Fashion focuses on fashion products and accessories design. Students will see how 3D technologies can be used to make eye-catching, bespoke and customised products at low volume. Student learning outcomes: 3D printing, 3D CAD, fashion trends, product and accessories design, design thinking, geometry, form finding, material science.

3D Scanning: 3D scanning allows artists and engineers to capture 3D shapes and forms from real life. Students scan and inspect 3D models digitally, or turn them into 3D printed objects. If you have done one of our 3D printing short courses you can also 3D print your own figures. Student learning outcomes: Computer graphics, 3D scanning to CAD workflows, 3D modelling techniques, part inspection, customisation. 3D Digital Clay Modelling: An alternative to traditional Computer Aided Design, digital clay modelling allows artists and designers to sculpt products and figures more organically. This short course introduces students to techniques used by animation and gaming artists. Show how sculpted pieces can be physically manufactured to create fantastical pieces. Student learning outcomes: Digital clay modelling, animation and character design, product design, 3D modelling techniques.

FULL COURSE Our accredited full courses in 3D technologies help schools deliver industry recognised skills and qualifications BCA’s 3D full courses offer students a professional path to industry or university. Full teacher training, support and lesson plan resources are provided to ensure teachers are guided and confident in delivering course content. International Our qualifications are internationally recognised and accepted. Together with our awarding partners, we have centres in the UK and internationally that can support our curriculum and qualifications. Our Full Course Qualifications Explained Higher Nationals (HNC and HND): This is a practical higher education qualification which can be used to gain entry into universities or direct entry onto an apprenticeship scheme work placement; they are highly valued by employers.

3D Design, Higher National Certificates and Diplomas (HNC and HND) This is a practical work focused programme taken over 1 or 2 years. Students learn all major aspects of modern 3D design, visualisation and fabrication through a combination of work based projects and independent learning. These courses are developed and tailored to specific industries to give students the chance to pursue their own career interests within a structured learning route. Student learning outcomes: 3D design and visualisation, computer graphics, technical machine settings and maintenance, 3D spatial awareness, creativity, materials, engineering, quality control, project work. CASE STUDY:

SIR THOMAS FREMANTLE SCHOOL BCA is working with Sir Thomas Fremantle School (STFS) on a 3 year technology partnership. From staff training to course and curriculum development, BCA is working with STFS to kickstart and maintain a high level of engagement with 3D design and 3D printing across a number of subject areas. Teachers and students learn and apply modern 3D technologies in art, design and technology, computing, physics and mathematics to ensure a cross-curricular approach across the school. Outside of the classroom, BCA help plan industry tours, events and work placements for students to see real world applications of 3D design and 3D rinting.

Students can also explore and extend their own personal interests and projects at a weekly 3D Printing Enrichment Club with access to a full suite of 3D printers.

ABOUT BCA Black Country Atelier (BCA) was founded in the Black Country, United Kingdom. A region which has a long established heritage with manufacturing. It has been home to James Watt, Matthew Boulton, founding fathers of the Industrial Revolution. The region is still renowned in metals, advanced manufacturing and innovation. Today, BCA are building on this heritage by inspiring the next generation of engineers, designers and entrepreneurs by delivering modern skills.

Our Atelier includes designers, developers, computer scientists, artists, strategic thinkers, scholars, and renowned experts within 3D printing, consumer product design, manufacturing, fashion and Smart electronics. We also have strong links with educational institutes and research centres to bring leading educational content and industry focused outcomes into the classroom.

BCA is drawing from the vast wealth of knowledge of the region from modern industries based in automotive through to digital media to fashion.
