Everything You Need to Know About Vogue World: Paris
WHEN is Vogue World: Paris?
Sunday, June 23, 2024. You can watch the Vogue World: Paris 2024 livestream at 9 p.m. CET (3 p.m. EST) with the preshow starting at 8:30 p.m. CET (2:30 p.m. EST) on Vogue.com.
WHERE will Vogue World: Paris be held?
The famed Place Vendôme—a fashionista-favorite square of Paris.
WHO is the Vogue World: Paris host?
Model and actor Cara Delevingne will be on the air during Vogue World, talking viewers through the event.
WHAT is Vogue world?
Vogue World is a fundraiser and an amalgamation of what makes fashion so magical: runway shows, performances, unexpected surprises, and a cast of the fashion world's most talented, influential people, all dressed to the nines. Last fall, the event popped up in London, and prior to that, it took place during New York Fashion Week.
WHAT else about the event has been announced?
With the Paris Olympics around the corner, this year’s edition of Vogue World has been conceived in collaboration with youth athletic academies from throughout France, pairing different sports cycling, gymnastics, tennis, fencing, and breaking, among others with a decade in French fashion, going back to the 1920s.
The show’s fashions will foreground French designers both contemporary and historic, as well as houses that traditionally show their collections in Paris. There are also rumored to be numerous surprise live performances in the works but those won’t be revealed until the day of.
It’s the end of an era: Virginie Viard has stepped down from her role as creative director of Chanel… Viard had joined Chanel in 1987, when Karl Lagerfeld was the French fashion house’s creative director. Although she mostly stayed out of the spotlight, Viard worked closely with Lagerfeld as his right-hand woman during his long and influential tenure at Chanel
In 2000, she became the director of Chanel’s creation studio, and was put in charge of overseeing Chanel’s many collections for haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessories. Following Lagerfeld’s death in 2019, Viard was chosen as his successor at Chanel, becoming only the second woman, after founder Gabrielle Chanel, to lead the brand.
1. Hedi Slimane
2. Marc Jacobs
There's also Marc Jacobs, who is busy with his own line, but proved during his time at Louis Vuitton that he has no problem juggling two jobs and blending distinct house codes with his own style. In fact, back in 2005, Jacobs expressed great interest in the head position at Chanel. “Chanel would be the scariest job in the world to get, but it would also be the coup de grâce,” he told New York magazine
4. Sarah Burton
It seems that the consensus surrounds current Celine creative director, Hedi Slimane, as the number-one contender for the Chanel job right now. Rumors have been circulating about Slimane’s impending departure from Celine, so the timing of Viard’s exit has raised some eyebrows
3. Jeremy Scott
If we’re discussing designers with Lagerfeld’s seal of approval, Jeremy Scott, former creative director of Moschino, must also be in the mix. Lagerfeld once said that Scott was the “only designer who could take over Chanel” after him!
6. Pierpaolo Piccioli
When Burton stepped down as the creative director of Alexander McQueen last fall, her name started popping up in chats about other houses There are very few female creative directors currently in the industry, so it would be refreshing to see Viard replaced by another woman For the most part, though, rumors around Burton’s next step have been mostly focused on Givenchy.
5. John Galliano
On the topic of designers in between gigs, there is also Pierpaolo Piccioli, who has been lying low since his departure from Valentino in March. Less emphasis has been placed on the possibility of the Italian designer heading to Chanel, but his name has definitely been thrown around.
It’s unclear whether Galliano would want to leave Margiela, considering his success at the brand. Plus, while many (like Anna Wintour) have forgiven the designer for his past controversies, we’re not sure a house like Chanel would be willing to take on a stillpolarizing character.
The 80’s are back…
Everywhere we look, the '80s are having a comeback From bold maximalist earrings and chunky bangles, to cinched waist blazers and structured shouldered jackets, it's hard to outrun the decade's aesthetic right now. Once such resurrected trend are bubble-hems
We saw the first the beginning of their return in the 2023 collections with several bubble-hem skirts and dresses from Khaite and Prada, but for spring/summer 2024, designers went full-force on the voluminous silhouettes, not only was this shown in skirts and dresses, but also shirts and sleeve detailing.
Searches for bubble skirts are up 290%
Prepare yourself, the bubble-hem is everywhere.
