June 18-21 Intro to Robotics This class is a beginning introduction to robots, sensors and programming using NXT Lego Robotics System. You will use a basic model robot to attach touch, light, sound and ultrasonic sensors. Working in pairs, you will learn to program the NXT robot using the sensors to complete mini challenges. Teamwork is an essential 21st century skill and the foundation of many robotic competitions.

Dance Learn the fundamentals of ballet, jazz and modern dance. This fun interactive class will keep you moving, learning and having fun! Wear comfortable shoes, no sandals.

American Sign Language (ASL)

Recycled Art Discover your creative side making projects that use everyday materials. You will make a chandelier out of water bottles, animals from everyday materials, and an art piece that can be used as a decoration in your home. Students should bring an empty water bottle to the first class.

Explore Engineering Boats to buildings to bridges. Have you ever wondered what it takes to create these amazing structures? In this fun hands-on class, you will learn the design process that goes into such projects and create your own!

Drawing Animals and Faces Draw a self-portrait/portrait or image of your favorite animal/pet. You will learn how to focus on facial features, head shape and light to create works of art.

Learn fun and simple ways to add originality and pizzazz to your wardrobe from head to toe. You will create new accessories and make a bag to take them home in. You will need to bring an old T-shirt to class the first day. Adult size preferred, any color – as long as it’s a T-shirt you no longer need. These do-it-yourself fashions will make your wardrobe look fresh and leave you with the enthusiasm to create even more after the class.

No Bake No Problem Learn about ingredients, proper food handling, healthy choices, how to prepare foods and how to make easy meals without an oven. In this fun interactive class you will have a chance to create, taste and take recipes home with you!

Spanish Hola amigos, come join the summer fiesta! Learn Spanish the fun way with songs, games, puzzles and movies! Learn common greetings, numbers, colors, foods plus many more everyday words? If you ever wanted to learn to speak Spanish, this is the class for you! See you this summer. Hasta luego amigos!!!!

Coding for Kids Computer science and computer programming help nurture your problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. This fun, interactive class will teach you the concepts of computer logic, coding, and programming. By being exposed to and familiarizing you to coding early, you will have a foundation for success in any future career path. Camp for students who will be entering 3rd - 5th grades. • Ten fun interactive sessions to choose from in language, fashion, engineering, technology and art. • Once you register a class selection sheet will be mailed to you for you to number your top 5 selections, with #1 being your 1st choice and #5 being your last choice. Every effort will be made to enroll you in your choices. • Students will attend the same three consecutive classes during the four days and each class is 1 hour and 15 minutes. • Students will enjoy a small class size. • Questions? The Younger Generation Game Programming Instructor: T. Clayton (Ages 12 - 15) Create your own games and play against your computer. You will use GameMaker to create graphic-oriented computer games. Learn the objects needed to create games, such as sprites, behaviors, sound, and collision detection. Concepts will be covered and introduced in an easy format as the class moves quickly. Clay on the Potter’s Wheel Instructor: D. McMullen (Ages 8 - 14) Have fun learning basic wheel-throwing techniques. Work on the potter’s wheel and create projects using low-fire clay and stoneware clay. Projects will be finished with acrylic paints and a glaze. Babysitting Clinic Instructor: L. Carey (Ages 11 - 16) This clinic will teach students the responsibilities of being a babysitter, what parents expect, how to handle emergencies, caring for and handling infants and young children, feeding techniques and diapering, age-appropriate toys and activities, tips for bedtime issues and much more! Students will learn basic first aid and how to handle emergencies that arise such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents. As babysitting will be many students’ first job, interviewing also will be reviewed. Preregistration is required. Sorry, walk-ins are not allowed. Students will build a variety of robots and program them with a computer to move, spin, and much more in order to solve challenges. Students will work in pairs and small teams, sharing a robotics kit and computer. This class is good preparation for students interested in robotics competitions or even for students who enjoy LEGOS and are looking for a new and exciting way to explore with them. Mon. - Thurs. Good eye contact, introductions, making small talk and overall good manners are necessary social skills. Family-to-Family Program

Braking Traffik Program presented by Rebecca V., MA, LPC, Family Resources Attendees will learn about the different types of trafficking and the vulnerable populations’ traffickers’ target, examining the link between sex trafficking and prior trauma. Red flags will be discussed regarding survivors and their interactions with health care providers as well as the physical and psychological impact of trafficking. Attendees will also leave with referral information and resources to provide patients. Rebecca has been an employee of Family Resources serving domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking survivors since 2014. She has provided educational, institutional, legal, and medical advocacy for adults and minors within Rock Island County. Rebecca has provided professional trainings to adults as well as educational trainings to high school students. She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the State of Illinois. She is currently a Survivor Advocate for Braking Traffik (a program of Family Resources). This is NOT a pro/anti vaccinations debate, it is an information night pertaining to immunization schedules; which ones are required versus recommended. NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness of the Greater Mississippi Valley This 12-week evidence-based program is specifically for family members, caregivers and friends of individuals dealing with a mental health condition and is sponsored by National Alliance on Mental Illness of the Greater Mississippi Valley (NAMI). Although the course is not diagnosis-specific, it covers information about Schizophrenia, Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Panic Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The curriculum includes: • Family responses to trauma • Diagnosis and dealing with critical periods • The biology of the brain • Problem solving workshop • Medication review • Understanding the inner experience of living with a mental health condition • Communication skills workshop • Self-care • Rehabilitation services available • Advocacy and fighting stigma Each 2 ½ hour class is taught by trained family members who share the same lived experience. Join the many families who have gained information, insight, understanding and empowerment from attending this program. After registration, one of the instructors will contact each registrant for a conversation before the program begins. All course materials furnished at no cost. Youth Mental Health First Aid USA Training Program presented by Bridgeway Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach the community and professionals how to respond when a youth is experiencing a mental health problem or a mental health crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with youth ages 12-18. They will gain knowledge of the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance abuse disorders, self-injury, disruptive disorders (including ADHD) and eating disorders. The class will include a five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to assess the situation, to select and implement appropriate interventions, and to help the individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional care. Please note – This course does not teach how to diagnose or counsel, but how to help a person needing early intervention or crisis assistance. American Heart Association Health Care Provider Training Course (BLS-CPR) The American Heart Association designed the BLS for Health Care Providers Course to prepare a wide variety of health care professionals to recognize several life-threatening emergencies and to provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course includes adult, child, and infant skills in both the out-of-hospital and in-hospital settings. Health Care Careers Phlebotomy Technician In partnership with Genesis. Job growth expected to be 24% through 2026. Prerequisite: Current statement of good health from your physician and documented proof that you are free from active tuberculosis as documented by a negative QuantiFERON® - TB Gold test. These documents must be presented to the instructor the first night of class. This test may be obtained from your physician’s office or by visiting a Genesis Occupational Health Clinic. You are required to perform 25 venipunctures and 5 capillaries. Students will perform these skills in a phlebotomy practice lab setting, beginning with practice arms and then with real arms (students practice on one another) under instructor guidance and supervision. Train in the basic blood-drawing procedures for venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. You will have an understanding of the skills, knowledge and level of responsibility required to perform competently as entrylevel phlebotomy/lab personnel. Heaven on the Prairies Presenter: Dr. Maryan Wherry In the settlement of the region, we often concentrate on individuals as “founders,” but there were several groups -- religious, ethnic, economic-- that established towns in the Quad-Cities region. Most groups were in search of creating an ideal life. The quest to establish a good or godly community has been a persistent American dream. The most obvious towns are the Amanas, Nauvoo and Bishop Hill. This talk explores not just the obvious communal experiments but identifies other local towns and communities that were established with the hope of becoming utopias. HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION CAREERS TRAINING PROGRAM (HCCTP) Paul Fessler, Program Manager The Illinois Department of Transportation created this program to increase the number of minorities, women and disadvantaged persons working on IDOT projects. This 13-week class will cover math, job/life skills, blueprint reading, OSHA, stick welding, construction equipment operation, shop time, and hands-on projects. This program is at no cost to the participant. The students selected for the program will learn essential skills for working in a variety of construction trades. Interested in this program and a career in construction? Requirements: interest in working in the construction trades, 18 years or older, high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, drug-free (tested).

Fall class starts August 13, 2018. STICK/TIG WELDING This is a 140-hour SMAW (Stick) and GTAW (TIG) class designed to train individuals on how to work in the welding environment. The classroom portion covers gases, symbols, blueprints, math, safety, different types of Stick rods, different types of Tungsten, how and when each type are used, interviewing skills, and resume writing. The remaining class time involves hands-on and demonstration of proper use of materials. The fee is $1,999 for each class (subject to change). Fee includes the cost of the book. These classes do not qualify for financial aid.

CNC Production CNC PRODUCTION MACHINE OPERATOR LEVEL II (48 HOURS) Instructor: F. Paul Smith This is a continuance of the Level I CNC Production Machine Operator. This training includes basic CNC operator skills and CNC set-up processes. Coursework covers a variety of relevant areas including: tooling applications, work holding, offsets, programming, methods for holding tolerances, gauging and inspection. Students gain real-world experience using actual CNC Machining centers to perform real production runs and job set-ups. Classes are conducted using Haas CNC machines. Shop safety and quality principles are given special emphasis throughout the class.
