Autism Awareness

Presenter: M. Smyth, Director of the QC Autism Center (QCAC) April is National Autism Awareness Month, and we are partnering with the QCAC to bring you a free evening full of information regarding Autism. QCAC is an organization that provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, an evidence-based treatment that has proven to be particularly effective for children diagnosed with autism, developmental disabilities and behavior problems. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. It is estimated that 1 in every 68 children is diagnosed with autism and some studies suggest boys are more likely than girls to develop autism and receive the diagnosis three to four times more frequently. Current estimates are that in the United States alone, 1 out of 42 boys is diagnosed with autism. Join us as we learn a brief background on Autism, what the “red flags” of Autism are and what resources are available in our area.

Photography Exposure Lighting & Flash

Instructor: M. Bisom

Level 2 - We know that the camera is a tool used to record an exposure. A camera quite literally records light. In this class we take a more in depth look at both the exposure and the basic characteristics of light. What do we want to look for with light? What does it mean when we say hard or soft light? Or can we modify or even create the light we want? And then in the second night of class we will concentrate on using a shoe mount flash, both on and off camera, to create the image(s) we want. Students with their own flash gear are welcome to bring it. Otherwise, you can just bring a camera with a hot shoe and there will be gear that you can practice with.

Then on the second night we will review your submitted images/portfolios through the lens of composition and what we can do to improve the images.
