Justin Speck
Director Altar Boyz Justin returns for his 9th season with the BHP where he has had the honor of acting in, directing, and/or choreographing sixteen productions since 2002. He is a nationally known and award-winning theatre educator, director, choreographer, and actor from Rapid City. Locals may recognize him from Black Hills Community Theatre, Firehouse Brewing Theatre, Black Hills Symphony Orchestra, and Rapid City Central High School where he just finished his 17th year as Co-Chair of the Performing Arts Department and the Artistic Director of Theatre.

Dan Workman
Artistic You ’re Director, Director I Love Perfect, Now Change You, Dan fuels the artistic vision of the BHP and with his wife, Deb, founded Dakota Players. His passion for the BHPgoes beyond words. This is Dan’s 25th summer at the Black Hills Playhouse and his 12th as Artistic Director. Dan is an Associate Professor and the chair of the Department of Theatre at Augustana University where he teaches directing, acting, script analysis, and intro to theatre. He received his M.F.A. at the University of South Dakota. Over the years he has played many roles and directed many shows at the BHP!
Alan Temple
Musician Alan is excited to return to BHP for this season. He is currently in his 20th season as a percussionist with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra. He was a percussionist in the musical Side Show at the BHP in 2019. Alan has also played percussion for the Black Hills Community Theater productions of The Music Man, Les Miserables, and The Full Monty. He recently retired from the EllsworthAir Force Base engineering division where he worked in project management for 35 years. Alan and his wife, Debbie, have two daughters, Rachel and Brittany.
Deb Workman
Director of Education
Deb is a true believer in every person’s abilities and superpowers. Leading the way with kindness, she is a creator of theatre opportunities and magic.As the BHP Director of Education she manages Dakota Players, BHP Jr. Camps, and The Expanded stage programs which are based in Sioux Falls. Deb works with her team to create innovative and engaging arts curriculum which includes groundbreaking programs inclusive of people with disabilities.
John Utter
Technical Director
Coming to you all the way from Boston, MA, John is excited for his sixth season at the BHP! He is 1/3rd of the way through his MFAin Technical Production from Boston University, where he faces new educational challenges every day. He would like to give a special shout-out to Josey Miller for being just generally the best and to every person who has made the trek to our little corner of the park to support the arts!
Jack Warring
Actor Intern
Jack Warring is an actor who just recently graduated from Western Illinois University where he just finished performing in Kiss me Kate and their most recent dance concert! Jack worked in the Black Hills for the BHP's last season and could be seen as Buddy in Side Show and Eddie in Mamma Mia! Jack absolutely adores being in the Hills and could not be more excited to be back on stage and putting on a show for you!
Preston Workman
Assistant to Associate Director
PrestonWorkman is a high school student who enjoys the world of media. He has taken Digital Animation, and Audio/Visual Production classes at the CTE Academy in Sioux Falls, SD and takes great pride in his media presentations. Preston loves listening to audio books, drawing, hanging out with friends, biking the trails, and playing video games.
Satchel Workman
Box Office Customer Service
Satchel is beyond excited to return for his 5th (employed) year at the Black Hills Playhouse, even if it looks a bit different! His favorite things include singing, playing games with his friends, jokes, and bugs. In his years away from the Playhouse, he has been taking voice lessons, streaming on Twitch, watching movies, and reading. Some series he recommends are: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, The Reckoners by Brandon Sanderson, and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
