MAGIC ON PAPER Hello lovely ladies and a very warm welcome to our first issue of Her Paper.
09
I couldn’t be more excited to have finally made it to this point. Whew! What you will find in the pages of Her Paper is a collection of inspired and instructive articles about real, honest, down-to-earth women who work hard to live deliberately, but who are not afraid to admit the struggles we sometimes face. We don’t always have hours to exercise every day. Our houses aren’t perfect. We stay informed and eat as healthily as we can, but we are also realistic and flexible.
10 14
Allow me to explain how Her Paper works. As you flip through the pages you will notice the different sections, which cover everything a woman can possibly need—Her Look, Her Style, Her Home, Her Health, Her Entertainment, Her Mind, Her Taste and Her Travels. What is really unique about this paper is that you don’t really need to read much. You can watch videos right on the pages of the magazine and buy everything you see instantly by using our ‘get it’ mobile app. Go on! Pick up your phone and download it so I can show you some magic! Click on the camera, point it towards the images that have a play icon underneath, watch, shop and share. How cool can reading get?

The Oil Of Youth Let’s face it. We all secretly, and some not-so-secretly, yearn for eternal youth. We throw coins in every fountain we see and wish for beautiful skin, shiny hair and perfect health. Wish all you want, ladies—if we don’t do something about it all the coins in the world won’t do us any good, unless we spend them on those amazing products made with pure Moroccan Argan Oil.
Pure Argan Oil Al Mazyouna, AED 275
Precious and Sensual Oil - Lavender Al Mazyouna, AED 240
Black Olive Soap with Eucalyptus Al Mazyouna, AED 60
Loofah with Argan - Gardenia and Oud Al Mazyouna, AED 80
Precious and Sensual Oil - Verbena Al Mazyouna, AED 240
Savon Argan Soap Al Mazyouna, AED 55
WHY ARGAN OIL? SLOWS DOWN THE AGING PROCESS Argan oil is made up of around 80% fatty acids, which helps you look younger for longer. It also stimulates the production of collagen under the skin. Regular use increases the elasticity of your skin, and helps regenerate skin cells, which means fewer wrinkles, age spots and scars.
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY Argan oil contains flavonoids, which are amazing plant chemicals with super antioxidant, anti-inflammatory powers that also have benefits for the immune system. Rub on some argan oil for relief from sore joints and muscles.
STRETCH MARKS BE GONE The magical healing power or argan oil helps reduce the visibility of stretch marks, which develop from pregnancy, growth of hips or rapid weight gain. It also helps prevent stretch marks if you start using the oils at an early age.
BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY HAIR Argan oil coats the hair, which seals in the moisture and smoothens those baby hairs that keep sticking out once you finish a blow dry. It also helps prevent the hair from drying, makes it stronger and more manageable while brushing or styling. If you’ve coloured your hair recently, we recommend the use of argan oil as it prolongs the time between each colouring session and helps preserve the colour for a longer period of time.
STRENGTHENS NAILS Argan oil contains vitamin E, which helps you grow stronger, healthier nails. If you have any nail or skin infections, argan oil's antibacterial qualities can help you get rid of them as well.

FALL ESSENTIALS
Step out in style this season with metallic skirts. Super comfortable and flattering, they give just the right amount of shine to every look.
Velvet, such a soft fabric, my absolutely favourite this fall, especially for dresses and shoes. It leaves a special impression of sophistication and it will truly make you feel special.
The 'Nineties are back'—with chokers as a cute and easy accessory to throw on with almost every outfit. Pick one made of velvet, leather, metal or rhinestone.
see it. scan it. get it.
From plain and military to all-over patches and prints, the bomber jacket is a true fashion essential this year.
When it comes to knits I would definitely go for the bell-sleeve sweater this fall. It will add a dreamy touch to your outfit, whether you combine it with a pair of jeans, pants or even A-line skirts.
Denim has been hard to avoid in recent seasons. But if I have to choose only one denim piece, it would definitely be oversized jacket.
With the summer heat almost behind us and the recent launch of the Dubai Opera, shopping for the perfect, red-carpet evening gown is an absolute must. A small piece of the souls of Marchesa, Herve Lager, Nina Ricci, Rami Al Ali and so many more amazing designers sit perfectly on the mannequins at Galeries Lafayette waiting for you to take them for a night you’ll never forget. We women never really grow out of our princess phase—we want to feel fabulous at every social occasion. That is why the people behind the Red Carpet have also picked out some glamorous accessories and jewellery, because no look is complete without a little bling.
7 style her
I've always been a fan of glitter and metallic elements. Aren’t these star embellished pumps a keeper?
Don’t we all love the warmth and softness of velvet? It is certainly coming strong this fall.
Green is the colour of balance and harmony. I am definitely bringing some of that to my wardrobe this fall.
Romance is around the corner and this dress shows it well. I am loving the delicate lace element.
Pleated skirts have a retro feel that I adore. No longer can we say, “I have nothing to wear!" BRING IT ON!
Flower and nature motifs are a must this season, so let’s embrace it. This clutch is somehow mythical.

Simple Tips To Feng Shui Your Home

The best tips for bringing positivity into your home with Feng Shui as brought to you by the UAE’s leading Feng Shui Consultant, Priya Khanna. Priya practices traditional Chinese Feng Shui and has studied under Grand Master Raymond Lo, Grand Master Choa Kok Sui and many more.
Free of Clutter The most important factor to take into account is to keep your home free of clutter. Neutral Colours Decorate homes in neutral colours, adding accents through the use of cushions, paintings, or a feature wall. Less Mirrors Avoid using too many mirrors as they double up the energy, good or bad.
Home decor projects by talented designers
Real Plants Avoid artificial or silk flowers, potpourri, synthetic aromas such as aromatic candles, synthetic incense and sharp-edged furniture.

Fewer Water Elements Having excessive water elements such as a water feature as well as an aquarium can be a reason for an imbalance of energy. Clear Wall Above the Bed Hanging paintings above the bed in a bedroom is highly avoidable. No Mirrors Facing the Bed Mirrors facing the bed can cause health and marital issues.
6 Plants To Grow This Season
MORNING GLORY
BEGONIA
AGLAONEMA
Morning glory plants prefer full sun but will tolerate very light shade. The plants are also well known for their tolerance to poor, dry soils. In fact, the plant can easily establish itself in any slightly disturbed area. The plant can tolerate poor soil but prefers soil that is moist, but not soggy.
Begonias need bright sunlight to flourish. They thrive in stable, constant temperatures above 20ºC. Keep your begonias in small pots as they do not develop large rooting systems and do not often need re-potting. Water your begonias every one or two weeks.
Aglaonema is an extremely popular house plant, which is very easy to grow. The plant should be kept at a temperature of about 24ºC in summer, hence making for a great indoor plant. In hot and sunny weather, the watering must be abundant.

COLOUR THERAPY FOR YOUR HOME
By Bhargavi Nagrecha
There is no doubt that we are influenced by colours and that they have the ability to affect the way we think, our moods and our emotions. By using colour therapy when decorating your home, you can bring healing energies back into your space and enhance or diminish certain qualities depending on the room you’re decorating.
BLUE
RED
GREEN
ORANGE
YELLOW
Blue is one of the most calming and peaceful colours to use in your home, and works well for your bedrooms, dining rooms, studies and exercise areas. We love a teal or turquoise blue to evoke a spa-like feeling in the living room.
Dark red can be a passionate colour for bedrooms; rather than going all-out with the same shade, it’s best to have a ruby or maroon feature wall. Too much red can be a little unnerving.
Green is a colour that’s often associated with health and efficiency. We love emerald green living rooms. But a softer olivey green would work well in a guest room as it gives a relaxing vibe and matches with everything.
Orange can make a room look smaller. If used in excess it will make a space feel claustrophobic and stressful. Avoid using it in your bedroom as you may find it hard to sleep or concentrate. However, a warm orange would work well for a wall behind your cabinets.
Yellow is uplifting, invigorating, optimistic and gives the illusion of sunlight within your space. Apparently yellow bedrooms are effective when it comes to blocking depression. Yellow kitchens and offices increase stimulation, enhance concentration and speed up your metabolism.
L AV E N D E R
Lavender shades are quite calming. Use wisely, as this colour can make you feel very drowsy. Shades of lavendar are wonderful to use in bedrooms. They make you calm and help you sleep well.
AFRICAN VIOLETS
AGAVE VICTORIAE-REGINAE
ALLAMANDA CATHARTICA
African Violets need just enough water to keep the soil moist, but never soggy. Keep soil moist to dry, and allow soil around roots to dry out before watering to encourage blooming. Water from the bottom with room temperature water.
Agave Victoriae-Reginae is a small species of succulent flowering perennial plant, noted for its streaks of white on sculptured geometrical leaves. It requires well-drained soil and light shade to full sun exposure. However, during the peak summer, they prefer some afternoon shade and not direct sunlight.
Allmanda Cathartica boasts big, trumpet-shaped yellow flowers all summer and throughout fall. The plant requires plenty of warmth, humidity, and light to thrive. A sunny window, greenhouse or sunroom is ideal. You can also keep the plant containeron your porch, kitchen windowsill or patio.

Forever Young
her health
Once upon a time, we thought we would look 20 for ever. We had no clue what collagen was or that it decreased at a rate of 1.5% every year. It’s decreasing as you read this article. By the age of 40, our body is using up more collagen than it’s able to make, and by our late 50s, we only have half of the collagen we started off with. What does that mean? It means wrinkles, sagging chicken skin and weaker cartilage in your joints. Collagen is the “glue” that keeps our muscles, bones, skin and tendons healthy. Smoking, poor sugary diets and extreme exposure to the sun are other factors that contribute to depleting collagen levels. So we’ve decided to help you show up looking young and healthy, inside out, at your 20-year high-school reunion. Vida Glow, the natural marine collagen, has quickly become our biggest solution to eternal youth. It’s beautifully packaged for ladies who like pretty things and is very practical. With 20 small sachets in each box, we can easily slip them into our tiny purses. It’s natural and contains no additives or artificial flavours.

SOUPING
THE SURPRISING NEW SKINCARE TREND
Move over, juicing. A new skincare trend is in town: Souping! The new trend relies on soup broths rather than juices to give your skin a much-needed dose of collagen. Read on to decide if it’s right for you.
THE BROTHY DETAILS As a trend, souping relies on nutrients and minerals found in “bone broths,” or broths made from nutrient-rich chicken, beef, or pork bones. The theory goes that animal bones are rich in hard-to-get minerals, like magnesium, sulphur, and phosphorous. Magnesium can reduce inflammation. Phosphorous can repair skin cells from the inside out. Sulphur can brighten your skin tone and reduce skin troubles like acne and rosacea.
HOW TO SOUP? Similar to a juice cleanse, a soup cleanse limits your diet to healthy soups for a predetermined period of time in an effort to reset your eating habits. Since soups are packed with protein from the bones, fibre from the veggies and added ingredients, and feel more like a traditional meal than a mason jar full of green liquid, devotees claim they feel fuller and more satisfied on soup cleanses. Vegetarians can consume veggies such as beets and broccoli that offer a ready source of collagen, and meat lovers can easily make their own bone broth or soup stock from animal bones and vegetable scraps. Or you could do the easy thing and just buy them from an organic store. Either way, the trendsetters are trading in their kale juices for their broth bowls—will you?

CONCENTRATION x 5 By Viola Davis oncentration is merely the process of channeling the information C entering your sensory receptors towards your brain for comprehension. For most of a regular day, this process is subconscious, but sometimes it can be difficult. By following a few simple steps, you could give your concentration skills a significant boost.
∆ Literally jot down when your mind is wandering. Simply taking a
note on a paper every time you lose concentration awakens your mind to the issue.
∆ Taking breaks won’t hurt you. Short, five-minute breaks help your brain cool down and improve efficiency. You’ll feel naturally more refreshed once you continue afterwards.
see it. scan it. get it.
∆ Get exercise. If your job requires more sitting and typing, make sure you get up and take short walks; this helps boost blood flow to the brain and helps you concentrate better.
∆ Startany work with a deep breath, preferably in a quiet
environment. Be sure to listen to your own breathing. Gradually slow your pace and increase the length of each inhale.
∆ Cut down on multi-tasking. It has been proven to reduce efficiency and it increases the likelihood of you making mistakes. Do one thing at a time and focus.

6 Facebook Friends You Could Do Without By Miranda Louis Sometimes, by choice or by circumstance, we find ourselves connected online to people we try hard not to socialise with in real life. It could be a cousin, neighbour, or co-worker—someone you shouldn’t have added in the first place, but felt obligated after the sixth friend request or several reminders in person. In these cases, you shouldn't be afraid of the unfriend button—here are six types of people who should get the chop from your friends list.
DEBBIE DOWNER
DRAMA QUEEN
LITTLE BIG MAN
Debbie’s an unfortunate sort. She hasn’t had a good day in ten years and her wall is littered with, “Ugh, why does this always happen to me,” and, “I hate my life.” Trying to cheer up a Debbie is an exercise in futility, the only way to deal with a Debbie is to...not deal with a Debbie.
She loves to post leading comments as status updates. Her post might read, “OMG, can’t believe what’s happening tomorrow!” or the infinitely worse, ambiguous death/injury announcement that causes every person on her list to think it could be someone close to them. She loves to stir the pot and takes pleasure in making people think she has a lot more going on than she actually does.
He’s only satisfied when he’s making someone else feel stupid and small. He mocks your typos, starts flame wars on your posts, and is always right about everything. When he’s losing an argument he cites a random blog post as evidence, because if someone wrote it on the Internet, it has to be true.

Possibly the most nefarious and underhanded of all Facebook friends you could do without, the Snarky Blogger lies in wait, reading, observing, and collecting information for her next snarky post. You cross your fingers and hope your online ramblings don’t become fodder for her mocking diatribes about who or whatever incurred her wrath that day.
This friend wants you to think the sky is falling. Constantly. Chicken Little is especially fond of sharing catchy, scary articles and videos and the rantings and ravings of political pitbulls. This friend could benefit from intensive counseling, a critical thinking course, and possibly medication.
Best Apps to Improve Productivity
Any.Do (Android, iOS)
Pomodoro (Android, iOS)
Momentum (iOS)
Any.Do is a calendar app dedicated to helping you stay on track, along with your co-workers, friends, and loved ones, with combined task lists. The purpose is to save you time when organising family tasks, work projects and personal errands. It also helps you to collaborate with others, which in turn makes you more productive.
Have a hard time focusing or organising? Worry no more—the Pomodoro technique is one of the greatest time management methods and is sure to boost your productivity to greater heights by having work periods timed and rewarding you with breaks.
Have you heard of the ‘don’t break the chain’ productivity method? It’s a way of getting things done that is based on the idea that the more you do something and the more often you see your progress, the harder it will be to stop. Momentum utilises a similar idea by encouraging you to keep working to form good habits, break bad ones, and getting things done.

This person suffers from a condition similar to verbal diarrhea and is compelled to share every inane detail of their life with the world. They check in everywhere they go, update friends on every piece of food that passes their lips, and tell you useless information that no-one cares about in real life.
APP OF THE
MONTH
Carrot (iOS) Carrot is a fun way to make sure that you get everything done. If you fail, the app will get angry at you. The app is a beautifully designed piece of software that turns getting things done into a game. It has quickly become one of our favourite to-do list apps. With it, you can be rewarded with points that lead to unlockable features.

In many ways, he represents an important historic and artistic intersection of Middle Eastern and Western cultures. His art, inevitably, reflects those changes: from Egypt in the midst of the revolution, to Paris in the ‘50s, to America in the throes of a civil rights movement and the Vietnam Era, September 11, its aftermath, and on to Iraq and its consequences.
