SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL REGATTA CENTRE
PREPARE TO UNLEASH THE BEAST THIS SEPTEMBER Every year the Defqon.1 Festival draws in partygoers from all over the world, who unite on the epic Regatta Centre island in Penrith for a weekend of camping, community, the world’s very best hard dance artists, as well as some of the most explosive spectacle you’ll see at a party anywhere in the world. Defqon.1 always manages to bring a spectacular array of new surprises, and you can expect nothing less this September, with the team from Q-dance inviting you to unleash the beast! The Red Stage will be more explosive than ever, bringing you eleven continuous hours of full-throttle spectacle, in addition to the party’s infamous ‘End Show’ finale. Zatox will also play his first ever solo set at the mainstage, and appear alongside Tatanka as the Wild Motherfuckers for the first time ever in Australia. The award-winning festival will host a total of seven epic stages this year, with two brand new locations including the QULT Stage, specializing in the
new subground genre and already a stable at a host of Q-dance parties in the Netherlands. The Magenta Stage will broaden its reach to take in the entire spectrum of bass music, while the Blue Stage will cater to lovers of the toughas-nails ‘raw-style’ that’s exploded in popularity in the past twelve months. Australia’s elite pack of hardstyle artists are also set to rock the island, with Toneshifterz, Audiofreq, Delete, Dillytek, and The Strangerz all locked in, as well as Code Black who’s crafted this year’s massive Anthem. Hardstyle fanatics who are hungry for the extended Defqon.1 experience will again have the chance to camp on the holy grounds of the island from Friday till Sunday, and get their stomp on at the official pre-party on Friday night, which will come packing with a stellar line-up. Get a taste for all the madness that’s in store for this year by venturing through the official festival yearbook, and prepare for the most beastly edition of the Defqon.1 Festival in Australia yet.
2009 Australia welcomed the Defqon.1 experience in 2009 with ‘maximum force readiness’, and partygoers had never seen anything like it. The Regatta Centre island venue was unveiled for the first time, with the iconic Defqon.1 symbol showcased at the Red Stage in all its glory. Weeks later, partygoers were still shaking their heads in disbelief at what they’d witnessed.
2010 ‘Save your scrap for victory’ was the theme for 2010, with wrecked cars and industrial wreckage transformed into works of hardstyle art. Both the Blue Stage and the Green Stage were added, while the Red Stage sported the iconic and spectacular ‘organ pipe’ and Ferris Wheel design.
2013 With the Defqon.1 Festival celebrating 5 years of parties in Australia, punters moved to ‘scrap the system’ as the Red Stage was commandeered by a colossal 25-metre tall scrap metal robot, bringing such a commanding presence that it set a World Record as the world’s largest robot.
2011 Camping was introduced in 2011 with ravers allowed to stake out their turf on the Regatta Island for the entire weekend. The Magenta Stage was welcomed into the Defqon.1 fold, while a menacing scrap castle was erected to host the spectacle at the Red Stage.
2012 Hardstyle fanatics embraced ‘True Rebel Freedom’ at Defqon.1 in 2012. An open air pre-party on Friday night extended the camping experience for partygoers, while the fiery grandeur of the giant dragon dominated the Red Stage later in the weekend.
There are all manner of hard dance delights to be discovered across the corners of the Regatta Centre island, but the Red Stage is where the festival unites to witness Defqon.1 at the peak of its spectacular glory. Each year the surprise comes from discovering the formidable design that has taken residence at Red Stage this time around, with each year somehow topping the last. This year you can expect the action at the Red Stage to be more explosive than ever. The ‘End Show’ finale will return to close the stage on Saturday night and push the spectacle to the absolute limit, though in 2014 ravers will also enjoy the first ever solo set from Zatox at the mainstage, as well as Zatox’ appearance alongside Tatanka as the Wild Motherfuckers.
BRACE YOURSELVES.

He says he’ll be taking collaborations over the next 12 months, and fans can also expect some surprises when he retur ns to the mighty Red Stage in September. “I’ll be working on some special edits for the Aust ralian festival vibe,” he says. “But I’m not giving away too much info just yet!”

The music at the Blue Stage this year is set for a refurbishment; one that is made of ten-inch thick titanium steel, as Q-dance explores the rougher, tougher, darker sounds of ‘raw-style’ that have exploded across the Netherlands over the past 12 months. And Q-dance have assembled a cracking line-up to beat you sonically senseless with. Veteran Zany will be bringing the star power to the Blue Stage, while Activator will unleash his brutal Italian style for his first ever performance at Defqon.1 Australia. Radical Redemption will also be appearing at the festival for the very first time, with a special extended 45-minute live show. Expect a strong local flavour too, with Vazard & Delete reuniting for a special performance at the festival, as well as The Strangerz who will be unleashing their raw and heavy hardstyle sound onto the Blue Stage. So put your pedal to the metal and embrace the unforgiving energy of the BLUE!

Radical Redemption LIVE is an absolute sensation to watch. His first-ever LIVE performance on Australian soil will include a specially designed outfit to add to the onstage madness. No normal salvation but Radical Redemption!
THE STRANGERZ The Australian duo of Chris Hughes and Hansel Almeida have been crafting raw, melodic hardstyle together as The Strangerz since 2010, though this year is set to be their biggest yet. “We’ve got some surprising collaborations planned for the year, but we’re also concentrating heavily on writing new material. We have so many track ideas that are floating around in our heads, and we’re looking forward to getting them to our fans as soon as possible.” With a heavy-duty amount of fresh hardstyle on the horizon, The Strangerz say they’ve reached the next level in defining their sound. “Raw, yet still energetic and atmospheric. We love creating a mood and taking the crowd to the same place we went when writing the track. In saying that, we also love giving lots of energy, while at the same time keeping it raw and heavy.” Catch The Strangerz bringing it “rough and raw” at the Blue Stage this year!
AUDIOFREQ “I don’t know how to define my sound, other than a glitchy mess of uplifting vibes and powerful kickdrums. My music has and always will be about dancefloor energy.” So says Sam Gonzalez AKA Audiofreq. He’s already a veteran of the Australian hardstyle scene, who’s developed a healthy appetite for bending the rules, plus an anarchic approach in the studio that sees him willfully throwing anything and everything into the hardstyle mix. “A melting pot of different genres and influences, but with a primary focus on dancefloor energy. I don’t care if it’s trap, bigroom house or drum n’ bass, I try and see past the differences and collect what it has in common. It’s more fun to blend the different things that don’t normally go together, than to always follow the same formulas.” No surprise then that he’s found a kindred spirit in Dutch leviathan Headhunterz, who’s also been busting down the genre boundaries as he takes hardstyle to the world. Their collaboration this year ‘Breakout’ was a wild explosion of mainstage melody and thundering hardstyle kicks, and equally, Audiofreq’s debut ‘Audioception’ album last year was a diverse affair that saw him partnering with veterans like Technoboy and Tuneboy, and the equally versatile Geck-e. He’s got a full-throttle year ahead that will see him gracing the Q-dance stages at Mysteryland and Tomorrowland, and in August he’ll also appear as a judge at the semi-finals of the Defqon.1 DJ contest, where he’ll help mentor some of Australia’s finest rising hardstyle talent. When Audiofreq returns to the hallowed grounds of the Regatta Centre in September, he’ll bring the fury to both the BLUE and QULT stages. Brace yourselves, and witness the explosive energy of one of Australia’s key hardstyle performers as he unleashes the beast!

Hawman, hailing out of Melbourne, is the appointed Q-dance pioneer for representing the sounds of QULT in Australia.
With an experimental urge to break down the musical boundaries, the creative mind of Geck-e wanders off the beaten path whenever it suits him. With his debut solo album in the works, find out what the future holds for Geck-e at the QULT Stage.
ACTI “Speaking of tracks I f*cking love! Probably my favorite track of the year so far.” This was the vote of confidence given to ACTI’s new track ‘Zathan’ by Moby, one of the original ravers no less; and in even bigger news, the pair are also set to collaborate on a record together later this year. It’s a reflection of how much impact ACTI has had as one of the key DJs behind the QULT movement, helping broaden and redefine what we know as ‘hard’. Mixing hard techno and electro with an iron fist of hardstyle, ACTI can’t wait to show Australia what it’s all about. “I started making it because I grew tired of what I was playing and producing a few years ago. I was aiming for the perfect combination of hardstyle and electro house, and the common element in every production is a deep, massive sub bass on the beat.” ACTI will be preaching the destructive virtues of the ‘Subground Sound’ when he lands in Australia for the Defqon.1 Festival. “Since I haven’t played Subground in Australia before, my set will be a showcase of both classics and recent tracks. It’s gonna be madness, and a memorable experience for everybody on the dancefloor.”
