BLACKOUT DAY July 7, 2020 It's time for a change and that time is NOW!
#jointhemovement
This is a call to action!! We need one day of solidarity in America where not one black person in America spends a dollar (unless it's with a black owned business). This includes, Africans, Native Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics...ALL people of color. Together we have 3.9 trillion dollars in economic spending power. That’s $10,684,931,506.80 it’s going to cost per day next time a person of color gets shot. We will call it #BLACKOUTDAY2020 July 7th, 2020 please spread the message let’s show REAL action that they fear!!!! - Calvin Martyr

KYLA WEATHERSBY Owner of K Fizzle Bath Bombs Kyla, who is entering into the 7th grade, decided to use her time wisely while being out of school due to the pandemic. Keep reading as Kyla talks about how K Fizzle came about. Since the time away from the classroom, I had been looking for something to do while also having some type of learning experience. I thought, why not start a business. I decided to make bath bombs because there is no limit to who can use them and there is so much room for creativity. I love crafts and science experiments, and bath bombs were the best of both worlds. Seeing the smile on people's faces is everything, especially with what's going on in the world today. This is how K Fizzle Bath Bombs came to be. - Kyla Weathersby Not only is Kyla a young entrepreneur, she also has some amazing accomplishments: Faye Beall Citizenship Award - Lovett Elementary 2019-2020 Academic Excellence - All A Award, Principal's Award, Arrow Reader Award. You go girl! I had the pleasure of meeting this amazing young lady as she delivering my bath bombs. The bombs scent is so pleasant and will leave your skin soft! I encourage you all to support Kyla by purchasing your bath bombs! Click HERE to purchase!

Healing For A Purpose BY JEELINE
L.
HILAIRE
Oftentimes, we’re told and or we say,” time heals all wounds “, but in reality it’s the wound that heals the time which enables time to move. How so? Well, a wound can’t be healed if one doesn’t recognize that there’s a wound. Once the wound is acknowledged then “time” starts to tick. Healing isn’t something that happens overnight. It is also not something that should be overlooked nor swept under a rug. I personally believe that as humans we can be described like this analogy: “a clean room with a messy closet”. I use that analogy because oftentimes we walk into a room that is clean, but once we open the closet all sorts of things fall out. The body is “the room” and the heart is “the closet” and once cut open, all of our undealt pain comes flowing like a river. I say this to express the fact that when you do not heal properly from the things that hurt you, you become enslaved to the pain and you start piling pain on top of pain because it becomes “normal.” Undealt pain isn’t normal and it shouldn’t be classified as something that “can wait”. I am of Haitian descent and oftentimes we do not enjoy talking about what broke us because we’re ashamed of what people will say. We also do not want our business out in the streets. I believe that is something that many African Americans feel when it comes to healing and seeking professional help. We sometimes have the thought, "if I seek help for something that happened in my childhood and or something that recently broke me, I’ll be judged” or we think,”I can do this on my own, so I’ll deal with it when I’m ready or when it doesn’t hurt anymore.” I’m here to tell you, “so what you’re judged for getting help!” Your sanity, peace of mind, and freedom from bondage (your pain) is worth more than what people will think of you. Yes, everything has its own time, but do you know a scar that is healing gets hurt more if it's scraped a second time around? Whether your answer was yes or no, think of a healing scar that gets scraped as you are partially dealing with your pain. Heal for you, your loved ones and for those you will impact. It took me 18 years to seek professional help after the loss of my sister because I was not mentally ready, but I was forced when I reached rock bottom because my sanity could no longer take it. Healing begins in the mind and the moment you fully acknowledge you’re in need of healing, you begin to seek help first for you then for your surroundings. There is purpose, freedom and peace when you heal. If you forget everything I said, remember this: “healthy healing is healing for my heart”.

OUR BLACK HISTORY
You can imagine the tension and the jealousy from the white community. It all came to a head when a 19 year old black male was accused of assaulting a white girl in an elevator. She let out a scream which alerted a white store clerk. When he saw who it was on the elevator, he called for the police to have the 19 yrs old named Dick Rowland to be arrest for assault. The 17 yr old white girl name Sarah Page declined to press any charges considering he only touched her arm due to him tripping while getting on the elevator. Rumors were spreading fast that, Rowland, was attempting to rape Sarah. This led to the shieff coming into Greenwood District to arrest Rowland. Many angry white mobs came to the
BLACK WALL STREET
When you study the history of Black Wall Street before it was destroyed, you will see how they looked out for each other and wasn't afraid to lend money to a brother to help him build a business. The money was circulated 19 times within their community before leaving out (now our dollars leave the black community within 6 hours). This played a major part in their success. If only we can get on board and come together, we can and will build another Black Wall Street. - Coach Sanedra
courthouse to lynch Rowland but they were met by 30+ armed black men to protect Rowland. This resulted in some of the whites being killed and led to the burning and race riots of Greenwood District. The entire district was destroyed within 16 hours. Many were killed and more than 5,000 of Greenwood residents were left homeless. This was the fall of Black Wall Street.

Happy Juneteenth!!
JUNETEENTH| HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
Freedom
Celebration What is Juneteenth?
If you were like me, you have heard of Juneteenth but didn't celebrate it as we do for July 4. Don't get me wrong, many people celebrate on this day each year and have a great time with their friends and family. I can admit that I was oblivious about the real celebration behind Juneteenth until last year. With the recent death of George Floyd and the events that followed, it seems as thought the black community has finally awakened! This makes me proud but also wondering why did it take this long and a life to actually see the value we bring to this country. Either way, I am glad that we are doing what it takes to actually see who we are and the power we have in unity. It's better late than never! What is Juneteenth and why should we celebrate it? On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This happened two years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863.
Juneteenth, an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in Texas! It marks the emancipation of all slaves in the Confederacy
Even though Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, that was only for places under Confederate control and not to slaveholding border states or rebel areas already under Union control. Slavery had remained relatively unaffected in Texas until U.S. General Gordon Granger went to Texas and read General Orders No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.” You can just imagine the indescribable joy that must have been to those who were held as slaves. { HISTORY FACT: Slavery in the United States did not officially end until the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States on December 6, 1865, which abolished slavery entirely in all of the U.S. states and territories. So, our next Independence Day is on Dec. 6! }

frequent cause of inflammation, and losing extra pounds, especially around the belly, can lower levels) Quitting smoking. The toxins from smoking have a direct link to inflammation. Alter your diet. Cut back or eliminate simple sugars (like soda and candy), beverages that contain high-fructose corn syrup (like juice drinks and sports drinks) and refined carbohydrates (like white bread and pasta). Overindulging in them can contribute to easy weight gain and thus trigger inflammation.
An injury or illness can involve acute (short-term) inflammation. Whenever you get injured, have a bug bite, or have a virus of any kind, acute (short term) inflammation begins to happen. There are 5 signs of inflammation but please note that not all of these symptoms will be present at the same time, if any at all. The symptoms are: Redness Heat
Add foods rich in the antioxidants known as polyphenols. Studies have shown that these antioxidants have many anti-inflammatory properties. (onions, turmeric, red grapes, and green tea, all types of berries, cherries, plums, dark green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, & collards).
Swelling Pain Loss of function Acute inflammation is how your body fights invaders that may cause infection, as well as being a part of the healing process. However, inflammation isn't alway good. inflammation is a key player in a wide range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. The same reaction as in acute inflammation takes place, except now the flame persists. White blood cells flood the problem area and end up attacking nearby healthy tissues and organs. Inflammation can travel throughout the body and cause problems all over.
