With notable personalities, including the incomparable Nancy Greene, plus its obvious physical attributes, connected with Rossland. Rossland’s municipal government feels the town is qualified to host a museum devoted to the sport of skiing. Wikipedia photo
and archives. Rossland also has an extensive ski history, with Red chair being the first lift in Western Canada and the hill hosting the first World Cup event in North America in 1968. There is also a wealth of ski heroes who have emerged from the city, such as Nancy Greene Raine and Kerrin Lee Gartner. Rossland was also home to the father of competitive skiing, Olaus Jeldness.

“Red Mountain ski area is most significant in the history of skiing, particularly competitive skiing, in Canada,” Granstrom explained. “We have a host of athletes that have performed admirably on the world stage and a resume that that contains many achievements in the ski industry.” The city will now await news from the hall of fame board on whether it can put together and present a formal proposal.

Rossland has put in it’s name for the honour of having the nation’s ski museum. Mayor Greg Granstrom recently sent a letter to the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame and Museum asking for the city to be considered as a new location for the museum. After Teck Metals Limited announced that the museum’s main attraction - the mine tour - would not be re-opening, the trio of the museum, city and Teck began working together to find an alternative attraction. Granstrom explained that the three had been developing plans to significantly upgrade and enhance the museum’s facilities and feel that the hall of fame would be a perfect addition to the city. “We feel our city is a natural fit for the relocation of the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame and Museum,” Granstrom said in the letter. He went on to say that the city and board of directors also has extensive experience with the preservation and displaying of valuable artifacts

Entertainment Nelson’s Matt Billon returns to Kootenays with Comedy Tour CRAIG LINDSAY West Kootenay Advertiser
Nelson’s own Matt Billon, who has carved a name on the competitive comedy circuit, is returning to the West Kootenays this weekend as part of the Blackjack Comedy Tour. The tour will be hitting Castlegar’s Fireside Inn on Saturday, March 10 and Finley’s Irish Bar and Grill in Nelson on Friday, March 9. “I moved to Nelson and went to high school there, said Billon, who spoke to the Castlegar News from Banff. “I lived there for quite a few years and I had family that lived there after I moved away. It’s been called home for quite a while. Billon is excited to
be back in the West Kootenays with the Blackjack Tour, which sees Billon and headliner Mike MacDonald perform 26 dates throughout Western Canada. “Any chance I get to book a tour through the Kootenays I do, he said. “I’ll always add an extra week to go through. It’s great. A couple of years ago I moved from Toronto back to Nelson for about three months. I broke up with a girl and moved back to the hometown. It’s such a peaceful, beautiful place. It really energized me. For a short while Billon based himself out of Nelson and flew out of the Castlegar Airport to attend shows. “Eventually it was to much travel, he said.
Matt Billon will appear on the same bill as headliner Mike MacDonald. Submitted photo
Billon has a strong resume with several appearances on TV shows and specials including CBC’s “Madly
Off in All Directions, “The Debaters, and MuchMusic’s “Video on Trial. He has had his own one hour spe-
cial on the Comedy Network and been a winner/finalist on “The Great Canadian Laugh Off , “Stand Up and BITE Me, and the Seattle International Comedy Competition. He has been touring with Canadian comedy legend Mike MacDonald for several years with the Blackjack Tour. MacDonald, known as the King of Canadian comedy, has appeared on TV shows such as the David Letterman Show, the Arsenio Hall Show, Just for Laughs, Showtime’s Comedy All-Star Show, and A & E’s “An Evening at the Improv. MacDonald has had three prime-time specials that have appeared on CBC and Showtime. He has also appeared in a couple of movies

including Mr. Nice Guy starring Jackie Chan and Three Fugitives with Nick Nolte. “We’re doing about 26 shows together this time around, said Billon. “We try to hit 21 shows but we always go over. Our tours are so long that we can continue to add to the end of tour. To make travelling easier, Billon recently bought a big RV in Nelson in October. “It’s been great. It’s an awesome little tour van. It’s a nine foot van with a shower, kitchen, and furnace. It’s fully liveable, he said. “I brought it down to L.A. for three weeks doing shows. As far as being on the road, it makes it much easier. Billon has a TV show on hold right now that he is hoping to get the green light for. “It’s never ending - meeting after meeting, he said. “It’s on, it’s off. I try not to think about it. I do have a show that’s been pitched around. It’s a poker show with comics. “I just got my U.S. work permit so I’ve been chipping away down there. The goal is to come up and tour Canada for six to eight weeks and then go to the States for four weeks. Just keep going back and forth and hope something sticks. Once I got that work permit - I’m going hard. I did a show at the Comedy Store (in L.A.) recently. Now it’s about making new contacts and just putting myself out there. Billon says 2011
was a great year for him. Besides doing the Blackjack Comedy Tour with Mike MacDonald, he also got to work with Rob Schneider, Tom Green, Tommy Chong, and Norm MacDonald. “It was a crazy year, he said. “I was really lucky as far as that goes. Billon got his start in comedy after watching and being inspired by the monthly comedy shows in Nelson. “I was 19 and I went to a show, I was going to Selkirk College in Castlegar at the time, he said. “I couldn’t believe how funny these guys were. I was thinking, ‘this is their job. What a cool career.’ So I talked to a couple of them after the show and picked their brains. I did that for about three months and got a lot of great advice. I then moved to Calgary and started doing amateur nights there. I dropped out of kinesiology and there you go. I told my parents I was going to Calgary to go to Mt. Royal College for school. Billon said people coming to the show in either Nelson or Castlegar should expect a hilarious evening. “It’ll be a solid show from start to finish, he said. “We’re looking forward to being back in Castlegar. That was one of the first stops on the original Blackjack Tour two years ago. We had a great crowd. It’s an awesome venue. We’re looking forward to going back.

What’s New with What’s Old? Unfortunate historical period brought to memory by collectible GREG NESTEROFF West Kootenay Advertiser
Part of an ongoing look at local memorabilia selling on eBay. An envelope mailed from Slocan in 1942 to Dad’s Cookie Co. sold for $88.50 Cdn. recently. What made it noteworthy is that it was stamped “Passed by censor C-270.” Mail that passed through the Japanese Canadian internment camps during World War II, including Slocan, was routinely censored. This envelope shows the measure was applied not only to internees, but everyone in those areas — the return address is “Mrs. D. Sherwood.” The seller was in Victoria. • A pint-size milk bottle from Castlegar’s Modern Dairy
Example of censored correspondence, sent from Slocan Valley in 1942. Submitted photos
sold for $62 US. The writing is orange and black. The front has a picture of a nursing baby and the back a man and woman in rocking chairs and a baby in a high chair. The text reads: “It’s good for grandma, baby too/Good for me, it’s good for you/ It’s nutritious, health-
ful and sweet/Good old milk can’t be beat.” A half-pint bottle from the same dairy sold for $6. The seller of both was in Spokane. • A program from a February 27, 1962 exhibition game between the Trail Smoke Eaters and the Galt Terriers sold for $39
US. The Smokies were then reigning world amateur hockey champions, but Galt was Canada’s representative to the upcoming championships in Colorado. Galt beat Trail 3-1 before 3,800 fans at the Cominco Arena. Jackie McLeod — who played for the
Smokies the year before — scored twice for the visitors, while Gerry Penner had the lone Trail goal. Seth Martin stopped 28 shots in the loss. Galt manager Len Gaudette declared afterward: “After beating Trail right in their own backyard we won’t lose another game this year. We will retain the world title for Canada.” He was almost right. Galt went 6-and-1 in the championships, losing only to Sweden, which won the title. • The tail end of last week’s column was cut off, so here it is again: Greg Scott appeared on CBC Radio’s Daybreak last month to discuss that leathercovered bottle that Nelson’s St. Saviour’s Anglican Church recently auctioned off as a fundraiser.
The way “modern” used to look.
The bottle, which dates to around 1890, came to Nelson via the Nigerian port of Old Calabar, Victoria, and Grand Forks. Since the mid-1970s, it’s been in the church hall.
Despite all the publicity, only one person bid, winning the bottle for the starting price of $50. The buyer was from Quesnel. For a photo gallery of the above items, go to nelsonstar.com.

Aboriginal artwork from students at Dr. D. Perley Elementary School in Grand Forks is displayed at the local art gallery (Gallery 2). In a class taught by teacher Wanda Hecht, Grade 2 to Grade 4
students learn about Aboriginal cultures and various methods of artwork. “We always do lots of art and culture, explained Hecht. “This one started with a legend and the legend was based on how the Silver Fox got his coat. The tale, How the
Silver Fox got his silver coat, reveals how the Silver Fox originally had a black coat. “He was given this coat because he helped Morning Star get back into the sky after a huge battle after she was knocked out of the sky by Evening Star, stated
Hecht. “So the Silver Fox helped her get back into the sky and his reward was he got some of his silver stars in his coat. The Morning and Evening Stars were two stars that lived the sky, where the Morning Star could be seen during the day and the Eve-

It is the first culture here in Canada and I think it’s very important, added Hecht. “The other reason is that over 30 per cent of our students have Aboriginal heritage. It’s very important to piece together their cultural background and knowing the Aboriginal culture. Hecht pointed out the students will learn a lot more during the rest of the school year.

The Castlegar Rebels captured the West Kootenay Minor Hockey bantam house playoff title on Sunday afternoon in Nelson with a 2-0 victory over the West Kootenay Wildcats. The two teams entered the league final after great regular seasons and a strong playoff run. Castlegar earned a berth in the final by going through the round robin portion of the weekend 3-0. The Rebels defeated the Nelson Honey
Badgers, Nakusp and the Wildcats to earn a semi-final spot on Sunday morning. In the semi-final, the Rebels kept the roll going with an 8-3 win over Nakusp. The female Wildcats — made up of players from across the West Kootenay/ Boundary — took a different route to the semi-finals, with a 1-2 round robin record. The Wildcats lost to Nakusp and Castlegar, but managed a 4-1 win over the Nelson Leafs to squeak into the playoff portion of the weekend. In the game of the
weekend, however, the Wildcats upset regular season champion Rossland/Trail in an intense overtime game. The semifinal was deadlocked at 0-0 for the first two periods. Rossland/Trail’s Spencer Piccolo broke the tie five minutes into the third, but with five minutes left Jena Wheeldon tied the score. With the game tied 1-1 after regulation, overtime was needed to determine a winner. With two seconds remaining in the overtime period and a shootout looming, Wildcats forward
Emma Hare scored to give the girls team the victory. The final was hard fought. Castlegar got on the board with five minutes left in the first period when Kurt Neufeld scored. Then with just under a minute left to play in the second period, Joel Croteau gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead. Though the Wildcats worked hard to try and even the score, Castlegar goaltender Jesse Browell made some big saves to cement the victory and the West Kootenay banner.

TAX TIP: Disability Tax Credit - You may be missing out
In our community, people with disabilities are still uncertain about whether they are eligible for an important tax credit with a significant refund. I remain committed to raising awareness about their legitimate entitlement under the Income Tax Act. For your information, every eligible person should be aware of his/her rights of the Disabil-
ity Tax Credit, which can amount to up to $1380 per year, and can be claimed retroactively for up to 10 years. It doesn’t matter whether your disability is the result of a workplace injury, an accident, declining health, or a chronic condition. Nor do you need to be in a wheelchair to be eligible. You need to meet just one of the
9 conditions listed below. While the Income Tax Act stipulates that this is a non-refundable tax credit, it is transferable to spouses and other family members if the disabled person’s income is too low. You may be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit if you meet any of these conditions: • Walking: You
cannot walk normally for 100 meters without angina, pain, or a cane/walker. • Seeing: You have vision loss exceeding 20 per cent. • Speaking: You are markedly restricted in communicating. • Hearing: You cannot hear clearly, even with hearing aids. • Eating: You require feeding assistance. • Dressing: You are
unable to bathe or fully dress yourself without assistance. • Eliminating: You have poor bladder or bowel functioning. • Mental impairments: You have problems perceiving instructions, thinking or remembering. • Life-sustaining therapies: You need therapies such as dialysis or chemotherapy three times per week.
Note: If a child under 18 years of age is eligible for the DTC, that child is also eligible for the Child Disability Benefit, an amount available under the Canada Child Tax Benefit. If you are eligible for the DTC and you have working income, you may be eligible for the working income tax benefit dis-
ability supplement.
If you are eligible for the DTC, you may be eligible to open a registered disability savings plan (RDSP). You can find more information at www. cra.gc.ca/disability. Alex Atamanenko, MP BC Southern Interior

Dancing dreams The Turning Pointe Performance Company of Castlegar is helping turn the dreams of young dancers into reality. Saturday, March 3 was an occasion to get a feeling for the depth of the local commitment to this demanding art form, as a number of dedicated young ladies worked out under the sharp eyes of their mentors. Dancers pictured at left, from left, are Darian DeBasio, Victoria Apostoliuk, and Sabrina Neufeld took part in rehearsals for upcoming competitions. Heart patients to help others SUBMITTED Interior Health Authority
Two e-learning videos are now available to help people who have experienced a heart attack or are living with heart failure to understand and manage their health. This innovative project, a collaboration involving Interior Health patients and staff, was made possible through an innovation grant provided by Cardiac Services BC. “This project was driven by the recognition that patients discharged from hospital did not always access conventional supports available to help them learn to manage their condition,” said Marie Hawkins, Network Director of Cardiac Services. “We needed to find an alternate way to provide support that was both client friendly and easily accessible. These interactive videos help fill that gap.” Anyone with an internet connection can access the videos. Patients can start the video modules in hospital and continue at home after they are discharged. They can also select the topics they wish to learn about and take quizzes to test their knowledge. The “Living Well with Heart Failure” video provides valuable information for patients about heart failure as well as tips to manage the condition. The video “Surviving after a Heart Attack” explains what to expect after a heart attack, outlines steps to deal with future chest pains and offers tips for a heart healthier lifestyle. The videos also provide information on outpatient services and supports. “On behalf of Cardiac Services BC, I want to congratulate the staff and patients of Interior Health on the completion of this
valuable e-learning tool,” said Pam Aikman, Assistant Provincial Executive Director of Cardiac Services BC, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority. “A patient’s ability to self manage their own cardiac health is very important to achieving better health outcomes, and we’re delighted to support Interior Health in this endeavour.” The seven-member Interior Health team
“We needed to find an alternate way to provide support that was both client friendly and easliy accessible.” Marie Hawkins, IHA Cardiac Services
responsible for creating these videos included four former heart patients. Patients identified the issues they wanted to learn about, provided feedback on the script and the visuals and also narrated parts of the video. Patients involved in the project felt they got as much out of the experience as they put into it. “While working on the videos, I often reflected on my own experience after a heart attack. I remember thinking if these videos had been available when I had my heart attack they would have helped to relieve so much of my anxiety,” said Barb, former patient and member of the project team. “Having a medical trauma is hard to get through but knowing there are tools to help can make it easier. I hope other heart patients get as much out of watching these videos as I did making them.” The videos are hosted on BC’s Heart Failure Network website as well as the Interior Health website.

Regional Briefs
Grand Forks industrial operation injury free for over a year International Forest Products Limited (Interfor) in Grand Forks is happy to note that the mill is oneyear lost-time accident free since Jan. 13, 2011. Interfor was also ranked 14th out of 50 sawmills in British Columbia and has a medical incident rate (MIR) of 1.9. GF Teachers begin job action
Monday was the start of a three-day, full-scale withdrawal of services by teachers in British Columbia, including in Grand Forks, B.C.. Member of the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) met on Feb. 28 and 29 to discuss the escalation of job action in response to the government’s proposed Bill 22, the Education Improvement Act.
RDKB recommends binding arbitration for sewer dispute After years of battling over fair cost apportionment on regional sewer, the matter may now be resolved through binding arbitration. The communities of Trail, Warfield and Rossland have been given ample oppor-
tunity to come to a new agreement on the regional service under dispute since 2008 but even with assistance from a mediator, couldn’t find common ground. The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) has now recommended the matter go to the province in hopes of finding a resolution this year, though the
financial implications will not be taken into effect until 2013 with budget deadlines nearing at the end of next month. “We are hopeful that all three participants can reach some kind of accord so that we don’t have arbitration, that would be in everybody’s best interest,” said RDKB chair Larry Gray. “Perhaps this
might be a catalyst for some continuing negotiations; certainly through arbitration, you’re never sure what the outcome is going to be.” The regional board is still hopeful that an “outside threat” may push the partners into finding a resolution, a task consultant George Paul of Community Solutions Incorpo-
rated couldn’t do. The mediator provided a report that found Trail should fork over about 10 per cent less than the 70 per cent it currently pays, which works out to a savings of over $100,000 a year, on the budget that sat at approximately $1.7 million in 2011 and is shaping up to about the same for this year.

The little festival that could has done it again. For the second year in a row Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo has won the Best Large Event category at the international 11th annual Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards ( HYPERLINK “http:// w w w. b r e a k s p o l l . com” www.breakspoll.com) in London, England — despite being one of the smallest festivals in that category. At around 10,000 people, Shambhala was one of the smaller events in the best large event category, up against festivals like Burning Man in the U.S. (over 50,000 attendees) and the U.K.’s infamous Glastonbury (over 150,000 attendees). “A lot of credit for this award should to Rich-e-Rich and the Fractal Media Crew who create the Fractal Forest stage,” said Corrine Zawaduk, Shambhala’s executive producer. “They’ve been creating the ‘funkiest place on earth’ for 14 years.” Shambhala has been called a breakbeat festival — the

root of how a lot of people got into electronic music — or a dubstep festival, but for anyone who has gone it really is a collection of different sounds. The festival has already been experiencing it’s strongest year of sales on record and online sales sold out in 17 days in November, 2011. International attendance has been on the rise in recent years, with many traveling from the U.S., U.K. and Australia (among other countries) to the Kootenays to experience one of the top electronic music festivals in Canada. Now that Shambhala has been voted the world’s best large breakbeat event, those numbers may increase further in the years to come. Shambhala was born of the unique art and culture of the region 14 years ago. About 500 people attended the first Shambhala in 1998 on the Salmo River Ranch near Salmo, and that number has grown to about 10,000 people annually, making it the largest city in the West Kootenay for five days out of the year.

Nelson and Dist. CU donates to Creston-Kootenay Foundation fund SUBMITTED
Two years ago, the Salviulo family of Riondel undertook to establish a scholarship fund. The scholarship is for any male or female of the east or west Kootenay enrolled in the College of the Rockies fire certificate training course. Their son, Brandon, was a volunteer with the Riondel Fire Department. His aspiration to be a firefighter was terminated when he was killed in an ATV rollover while working on a fundraiser for his fire
department. Brandon’s parents
In the fall of 2011, the Salviulo family raised $11,000 froim organized events for the Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship. knew the expense involved for any person attending the firefighting certificate course. If their son could not participate, they wanted in their modest way to assist
the participation of someone else’s child. They established an in-perpetuity fund providing an annual scholarship of $1,000. In the fall of 2011, the Salviulo family raised $11,000 from organized events for the Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship. Imagine, if you will, the sheer hard work done by a small family to organize friends, relatives, a community and willing businesses and staff for a weekend of fun activities — fabulous breakfasts, prize bingo, a silent auction, mixed slow
pitch, 18-hole scramble golf tournament, a four-on-four shinny hockey tournament and a children’s playground. In December, the Nelson and District Credit Union came forward with a further contribution of $15,000 for the scholarship. The Creston-Kootenay Foundation, which administers the fund, appreciates the NDCU’s generous donation and support in our community and throughout the Kootenays. – By Larry Brierly
Responsible budgeting in an uncertain world. To prosper in today’s turbulent global economy, discipline and focus are essential. All around us we see governments paying the price for overspending and uncontrolled debt. In BC, we have a different story.

Breakfast: the meal that fuels the brain SUBMITTED
Does the thought of making and eating breakfast make you groan? One third of Canadian adults do not eat breakfast regularly - even though it’s simple to make and good to eat. Establishing a breakfast routine early is important for both children and adults. Adults who eat breakfast function better throughout the day. Research shows that breakfast kickstarts the brain and body. Studies of adults who do physical labor have found that those who skip breakfast often tire quicker than their breakfast eating co-workers. There is also evidence that eating breakfast may play an important role in getting you to work safely in the morning; drivers who eat breakfast were found to be

more attentive and responsive during their morning commutes. Eating breakfast can also help you maintain a healthy weight by warding off temptation to eat snacks that are less nutritious and by preventing over eating. Because breakfastskippers tend to eat
more in the evening, they often exceed the amount of calories needed in a day and end up gaining weight. Breakfast is especially important for the growing brains of children and teens. Research has shown that important nutrients missed when
breakfast is skipped are not adequately provided throughout the rest of the day. Children who do not eat breakfast often fail to meet recommended levels of Vitamins A, B6, and D, calcium, magnesium, riboflavin, folic acid, zinc, phosphorus and iron. Many of these nutrients play a key role in brain development. Evidence shows children and teens that eat breakfast are often better at understanding ideas and solving problems – essential skills for succeeding at school. Think there isn’t enough time in the morning to make breakfast? If you are short on time in the mornings try preparing items such as porridge the night before then simply reheat in the morning. and go? Fruit, cheese, crackers, peanut butter, and bagels make quick, inexpensive portable breakfasts.

Michael O’Connor
for the e
Week
TIP OF THE WEEK: Mars is currently retrograde inuencing criticism and possibly harsh attitudes. cr Mercury will be as well (March 12- April 4). Merc In Astrology, there the are 3 ‘personal planets’ that can turn retrograde. 2 are listed above the Venus. So, when anyone of these is retrograde, the river begins to take more complex winds and bove and th he other is Ven turns and channels narrow and rapids are produced. With awareness and a pro-active attitude such times can prove exciting and fun. Yet, imagine a river trip with a blind fold on? This is how many people live thus are subject to more problems and anxieties than is necessary. Like knowing the weather or trafďŹ c report or having accurate tide schedules‌, Astrology offers valuable insights for practical use. Sometimes these k are focuse focused upon deeper realities like the climate zone altogether - a metaphor for understanding a person’s core nature. Referring to one’s ‘nature’ clearly ďŹ nds its roots in Astrology, the ďŹ rst religion, science and system of psychology, where the 4 Elements are foundational features. Astrology generally measures the movements of the planets to provide deep self-awareness, destiny clariďŹ cation and timing. With 2 personal planets retrograde, anxiety and tension levels will rise, yet with plan awareness and intention we can override reactive attitudes and make wiser choices.
ARIES (MAR 21 – APR 20)
LIBRA (SEP 22 – OCT 22)
TAURUS (APR 20 – MAY 21)
SCORPIO (OCT 22 – NOV 21)
GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUN 21)
SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21)
Dreams and visions of the future are dancing in your mind. Your sights are set on making some key changes that will bring a fair return. Any area of your life that feels out of balance is under review. Simply speaking, you want a better deal. This is a good time to invest as well. But, it is not time to fully engage your physical energies‌yet. Getting clear about what you do and not want and need is in focus. Although you want to be kind about it, you can hardly contain your feelings. At best, this is manifesting as a rich and expansive mode of expression. Still, it remains important that you also make every effort to listen well to what others are saying. Your greatest rewards will come from joining forces. Getting clear on what are your dreams and what are illusions is a current theme. Subconscious thoughts about security are at play. Knowing the difference between wants and needs is ever ideal. The ego ever wants more yet if the spirit’s needs are not met we are impoverished regardless of apparent wealth. Self-actualization is a core spiritual achievement; what does it mean to you?
CANCER (JUN 21 – JUL 22)
Stimulations of your higher mind are directing your thoughts and feelings. Tuning-in to and/or cultivating feelings of unity and of communion are implied. Otherwise, tendencies to control people and situations or to over exert your will are revealing the dominance of your lower mind. Don’t let the facts fool you, do what feels good and reveals your personal truth.
LEO (JUL 22 – AUG 23)
Clearing the old to make way for the new remains in the spotlight. Taking new leads and strides is implied. Be willing to gain access to and make use of the resources of others. Get clear on what you do and do not want. Knowing who ďŹ gures into your long range goals is part of the plot. Invest in new tools, techniques and training and take calculated risks.
VIRGO (AUG 23 – SEP 22)
Neptune in Pisces is leading you to realize dreams and realities. The dreams include new creative expressions and involvement with some real power players. The realities include realizing that certain people and situations are simply not reliable. Coming to know the difference will remain an important theme for some time to come.
Getting clear on what constitutes genuinely healthy attitudes and actions is on your mind. Consider that beyond a good diet and enough exercise, true health is linked to answering the call of your spirit. Does it want you to stay or go? Scan internally for escapist or avoidance attitudes and pay attention to what persists. Some dreams are more colourful than others and these are likely now. More importantly, realizing them requires earthy tones and realistic actions. With so many opportunities on the rise in your social life, this is a good time to reach out. Do keep an open mind about how you think things ‘should’ proceed. What once was is steadily dissolving. This can be a good thing, as long as you are not attached. Establishing now foundations is featured. You can assist the process by getting clear on what you want. This entire process will become more evident in the light of the Full Moon. Aim to secure your new ground by early September, latest.
CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 19)
Your imagination has been activated. This added to a current fruitful creative cycle could produce some fabulous results. Now is the time to act in this regard. At least consider brain storming for ideas while the lightning is striking! Staying committed remains important yet don’t let it turn your feelings cold. Give praise to the fertile ground!
AQUARIUS (JAN 19 – FEB 19)
Prior power holds have been dissolving since late 2007 and this process continues. Now it is activating new perceptions and realizations. The key is to let go and let god. Avoid allowing common sense to get in the way of good sense tailored to your own deeper needs. True wealth and power is spiritual which in the world expresses as compassion, unity and love‌what you do.
PISCES (FEB 19 – MAR 20)
The key to understanding what is going on out there in your life is to look within. What are you projecting? What karmas have come ashore? How can you make the lemons into lemonade? Meanwhile, sharing your dreams, visions and ideas with signiďŹ cant others should go over well now, yet avoid scattering and concentrate on your main points.

More proof on the way that mentors do make a difference SUBMITTED
On April 12 the Kootenay Boundary Community Services Cooperative is hosting the Mentors Make a Difference Conference in Nelson at the Hume Hotel. This one day conference is part of the Helping Boys Become Healthy Men project funded by the Community Action Initiative. It will highlight the 5 local projects providing mentorship opportunities for boys that are being implemented in the Greater Trail Area, Kaslo,
Nelson, Grand Forks and Castlegar. We have Jim Conway, Senior Trainer for the Search Institute as our keynote speaker who will be speaking on the importance of mentorship in the lives of young men. The conference will be a great opportunity to network and to engage in activities to design a long-term framework for mentorship in our region. For more information on the amazing work being done by the Search Institute go to http://www. search-institute.org.
Keynote Speaker Jim Conway has over 20 years of experience speaking to audiences of all ages. The strength of his message provides hope and inspiration. His message is grounded in both research and direct experience as a street youth-worker. Jim works with The Search Institute. Submitted photo
We are hoping to have good representation from each of the project communities to not only support the work being done in their city or town, but to learn more about the other exciting projects being piloted around the region. We already have registered members of local government councils, Regional Districts, school districts, CBT, and members of the business community and social services sector. The goal is to have regional representation of key decision makers who can aid
in creating a longterm framework for mentorship in the Kootenay-Boundary.
“We already have registered members of local government councils, Regional Districts, school districts and CBT.”
This wiki site is also a great place to find out more information about the projects being implemented. The cost for the day is $20 to cover food costs; lunch, snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Mike Kent Registration is available online on the Helping Boys Become Healthy Men wiki page at http:// helpingboysbecomehe alt hymen.wikispaces.com/.
