Two men were taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, then airlifted to a burn unit at a Vancouver hospital, following a fire at an apartment complex Friday afternoon. The pair were hurt in a fire in the 3400 block of Okanagan Avenue that was reported after 4 p.m. “The fire was contained to the apartment and there was extensive damage done to the bathroom area,” said Vernon Fire Rescue Services deputy fire chief Jack Blair. “Two people were inside and were taken to hospital.” The two Vernon men are aged 22 and 21, and one was listed in critical condition Tuesday, the other was listed as critical but stable. The cause of the fire and the investigation has been turned over to the Vernon RCMP. “It’s still in the early stages of the investigation and we haven’t determined the exact cause of the fire,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk Tuesday. “Our officers have not been able to speak to either victim.” LISA VANDERVELDE/MORNING STAR
