Strong start in Armstrong ROGER KNOX Morning Star Staff

It was an udderly good start to the 116th annual Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong. Attendance for day one was 17,145, up from 16,262 a year ago. “It was a really good opening day,” said Bryan Burns, IPE general manager “It was just a good all-round day. We had lots of people on the grounds, great crowds at some of the shows such as the logging show and the mini chuckwagons.” Bryan Burns Also among the opening day highlights was an outstanding dairy show, complementing the IPE’s theme Udderly Awesome – Party Til The Cows Come Home, a tribute to the dairy division. The first performance of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association’s rodeo on the grounds also drew a large gathering. “It was probably one of best rodeo crowds on Wednesday that we’ve ever had,” said Burns. “Normally we don’t sell out the rodeo opening night but there was a huge crowd there.” Rain fell overnight – but not during opening day – and the weather cleared Thursday morning for Family Day. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. daily througn Sunday, the exhibit halls are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the West Coast Amusements’ midway opens at 11 a.m. The CPRA rodeo goes at 8 p.m. through til Sunday. The IPE parade will roll through the streets of Armstrong Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Event and schedule information can be found at www.armstrongipe.com.

Crown counsel have approved charges of second degree murder against the 14-yearold, who can’t be named, and Brandon Wellington, 18. They were scheduled to make

court appearances in Vernon Provincial Court Wednesday. The investigation leads RCMP to believe this was a targeted offence. “Police do not believe there is a risk to the public,” said Noseworthy. This is still an ongoing investigation and anyone with unreported information regarding the death of Jason Hardy is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP Detachment at 250-545-7171.
