Stolen truck located, man arrested after running border TREVOR CRAWLEY
A man was arrested just outside Cranbrook after running through the Kingsgate Border Cross in a stolen truck on Wednesday morning. At 11:20 a.m., a male in a stolen pick up truck ran the border at the Kingsgate Border Crossing into Canada. Canada Border Services Agency notified local RCMP Detachments and the stolen vehicle was spotted by Commercial Vehicle Inspectors at Yahk heading towards Cranbrook. East Kootenay Traffic Services and Cranbrook RCMP members were able to locate the vehicle and stopped traffic westbound coming out of Cranbrook. Police then quickly executed a safe vehicle stop and
arrested the lone male occupant on Highway 3 near Silver Springs Road at 1:05pm. The man is currently in custody and being held in relation to entering into Canada unlawfully, possession of stolen property and driving offences The Cranbrook RCMP thanked the drivers that were inconvenienced while the arrest was being made. “This is an excellent example of the level of cooperation we enjoy with our partner Agencies and Detachments in our area,” said S/Sgt. Hector Lee “Your Cranbrook RCMP members involved did an excellent job in getting this vehicle stopped and taking the male driver into custody as safely as possible with minimal risk to the public.”
men’s teams and 15 women’s teams in the top tier, and another 30 teams in a second tier. The event will be broadcast on Sportsnet, a national
sportscasting TV network. Kristi Petrushchak, Manager of the Tour Challenge for Sportsnet, spoke to the Townsman from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, where she is
scouting locations for the 2017/18 Grand Slam. Petrushchak said Cranbrook’s existing volunteer network, and the experience Cranbrook had hosting the
2011 Canada Cup of Curling, made Cranbrook a compelling host city for the 2016 event.

The Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store in Cranbrook is undergoing a major refit, and the community is pitching into help. When the Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary set out to replace the old carpet in the 8th Avenue store, asbestos was discovered in and under the tiles underneath. This, of course, resulted in significant more renovations than were originally intended. But with the help of Home Depot’s “Team Depot,” Proteck, Home Ability Renos, and numerous volunteers, a new floor is being installed in this important community institution.
