March Horoscope

Offering insight and reassurance for Febuary 2022.

Pisces

Cancer Jun 21-Aug 22

Dec 22- Jan 19

When the Tower card appears it usually foreshadows a new era in your life beginning. What makes people nervous is that sometimes it can appear to be more of a curse, when it can be a blessing in disguise. Accompanied by the Five of Coins, which symbolizes: collaboration; which might be a hint that the difficult situation that might appear, would be more manageable with support from your loved ones.

The Page of Coins hints that a newfound knowledge will be brought to your awareness. Not only that, but financial abundance could be around the corner. You seem like a person that likes to hustle! This seems to indicate that you might be picking up new skills and a possible new business venture. The Two of Wands also represent exploration and discovery. Now is the time to take some risks, and of course, don’t over do it.

Knight of Pentacles, means that a project or situation needs to be wrapped up! If you are an artist, give yourself a deadline to complete your project. Page of Pentacles, foretells success in a project or hard work in general finally paying off. This means promotion at work or if you’re in a creative field, it will be financially successful in this next upcoming year! It may not come into fruition this year for everyone, but when it comes to meeting your goals, view the journey as a marathon, not a race.

Aries

Mar 21-Apr 20

Sagittarius

Nov 23-Dec 21

Leo

The Four of Coins represents financial security or insecurity, and it might represent someone in your life that is materialistic or hoards. Which implies that you could still be recovering from some bad financial habits. Alongside the Ace of Wands, this card represents inspiration, passion or a new potential for growth in any aspect of your life, such as a promotion or moving to a new place.

The Queen of Coins represents a work and/or home balance, prosperity, safety and financial wealth which could put you in a position to help others. Alongside the Four of Swords, rest and recuperation seems to insinuate that you have been wearing yourself out. It might be time to spend some personal time alone to recharge. Ignoring your fatigue when you’re burnt out only makes it worse. You deserve to rest and be nurtured.

The Temperance card represents peace in stressful situations, as previously mentioned. The stressful situations could be coming to an end, or you will begin to accept something that has been giving you a hard time lately. The Two of Cups represents deep connections that will give you some sort of support. The new relatio ships and connections will help you cope with your current hardships in your life.

Taurus

Scorpio

Virgo

The Knight of Cups represents a person that is creative, has a deep appreciation for beauty (not necessarily vain). An alternate message for people that embody these traits, could be to honor your true feelings. The Nine of Cups symbolizes a wish fulfillment. This may not mean that all your problems will disappear, but you will feel more content with your life and accomplishments.

The Queen of Wands usually represents someone charismatic, confident, and generous but that person also could have a domineering, prideful and stubborn side to them. The Ace of Swords in reverse symbolizes clouded judgment or the need to reevaluate something in your life. If you know someone like this or if this is you, maybe you need to be honest with yourself and you might be getting in the way of your own success by avoiding personal improvement.

The Chariot card represents victory, travel, mobility and discipline. This could mean a change in pace that could manifest as a new job, new responsibilities. It could also mean that you might be moving to a new place, whether it be a new country, state or new apartment. The Sun represents happiness, success, and an increased stamina and positive perspective. No matter the circumstances, you can still choose to make the most of opportunities that come your direction.

Gemini

Aquarius

The Page of Cups represents creativity and good fortune. This could also represent a naturally curious person that follows their intuition. The Two of Cups represents a deep connection that could mean mending a relationship with a previous loved one. This could also mean a potential new and harmonious friendship that is about to blossom.

The Temperance card alone symbolizes an internal peace and tranquility during stressful events. While the Page of Cups represents opportunity, stability and peace within a familial circle. Together these foretell that there might have been a difficult situation giving you or your loved ones a hard time, but it will soon come to an end.

Libra

Sep 23- Oct 22 The Eight of Cups represents walking away from a disappointing situation, which means that you could be setting boundaries. Continue with that. This also symbolizes escapism as a way to cope with your hardships. Might be time to reassess your values. The Nine of Swords communicates a feeling of entrapment or feeling static. Probably time to take a vacation or take time to yourself.

Travel Advice with

Dr. Noreen Please give us a brief introduction to who Dr Noreen Nguru is and how you got your start in Wellness Travel Coaching and Independent Luxury Travel Consulting. I’m the daughter of an international lawyer and high-powered Kenyan diplomat so I grew accustomed to traversing the globe at an early age. During this impressionable time, I learned the true richness of being a global citizen and I guess I never grew out of the wanderlust! As a young Black female doctor navigating misogynoir in highly competitive medical fields, I would occasionally feel stuck and stressed about the realities of the profession that I’d loved since I was a little girl. On top of that, I also wasn’t entirely sure how to create a lifestyle that both fulfilled me and allowed me to impact as many people as possible. Travel for me was an escape, an adventure, but was more about wellness than what it seemed like on the outside. I would decide to change my reality by travelling and completely changing my surroundings to gain a fresh perspective on life and to explore my innermost thoughts. I remember standing at the base of Mt Batur on my penultimate day in Bali in 2017, with the early morning sunlight dancing across my upturned face. That’s when I finally felt it. Peace, contentment and connection. Connection to the breathtaking landscape towering above me, to the locals sleepily setting up their market wares for the day and most significantly, to myself. With that sudden clarity, I realised that somewhere along the line I had fallen out of alignment with my mind, body and soul’s purpose. Burdened with thepressures of achieving career milestones and trying to meet everyone else’s expectations of me, I was burnout and merely existing. Looking back, the trip was the catalyst for positive transformation in many areas of my life. And as I began to research the multitude of mental, physical, spiritual and scientific benefits that travel provides when we slow down and holistically explore our inner selves as we explore the world, I bolstered my knowledge by training as a travel consultant, becoming certified in cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness and the foundations of What The Doctor Recommends and prescribed wellness travel were laid. Today, I support high-powered females like myself, battling imposter syndrome, burnout, stress and anxiety to connect with the essence of what makes them feel alive by using a range of psychology tools to help travelers break through self-limiting beliefs, realign their purpose, discover their innermostwants and needs when traveling, rather than just following the herd. My wellness travel prescriptions guide FEBRUARY 2022 MARCH 2022

travelers to have purposeful individualized travel experiences that are meaningful as we work together using cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to achieve greater levels of wellbeing, happiness and personal fulfillment through mindful discovery. What is the Prescribed Wellness Travel movement? What makes What The Doctor Recommends an innovative disruptor in the wellness travel industry is that I view prescribed wellness travel to be the next frontier, the next evolution, if you like, of wellness. Preventative and Lifestyle medicine is a fast-growing medical speciality in the UK with more millennial physicians especially, advising basic lifestyle changes like adequate sleep, nutrition and exercise to holistically treat our patients. Even more so now, in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, I believe choosing to build wellness attributes into travels to allow for active rest, self-improvement and rebuilding mental reserves after this truly unprecedented event we’ve all lived through will help individuals better manage life and work stress moving forward. It’s the most enjoyable prescription you’ll ever receive! Just as I prescribe medication to improve physical health, after my own experiences using the transformative nature of mindful travel to heal from professional burnout, stress and anxiety, I prescribe personalized curated wellness travel experiences to help burnt-out high-powered female professionals boost their mental health and build lasting resilience to the pressures of work and life, because I know it works. The life coping skills that are built during the trips are long-lasting and transferrable to the workplace and day-to-day living. That pretty much sums up my heartcentered mission! How does travel help with mental health? One of my favorite quotes is by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions”. It’s been scientifically proven that new experiences – particularly ones that allow you to immerse yourself in a different culture – improve neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form new connections and pathways) increasing productivity and creativity in the process.

Travel, when done intentionally and mindfully, can facilitate a seismic mindset shift that allows you to gain clarity on who, what and where you are in life. The newfound perspectives gained through exploration, authentic interactions, vibrant cultural exchanges and thought-provoking experiences sparks imagination, forces introspection, builds resilience and reinforces tolerance. If you integrate these discoveries into your everyday life and recognize that the positive changes do not automatically end after the tan fades, travel can be a hugely transformative experience. Travel is the new self care, how can people participate in travel for self care regardless of their budget? There is a big misconception that wellness travel is automatically expensive but there are many ways to infuse self care/wellness attributes into any budget or style of travel. Self-care on your travels can mean meditating and rising with the sun for a beautiful start to the day. Reconnecting with nature with an idyllic hike and picnic, a visit to thermal hot springs, a cooking class, an art class for selfexpression, checking into one of my Release and Restore retreats. So many ways!

What is a Travel Coach and why would you recommend that travelers consider investing in one? In my experience, people return happiest when they travel with specific goals and motivations in mind. They often gain a greater sense of confidence and purpose. With a Travel Coach’s help, they are supported to translate the lessons learned to their now and completely shake up their old lifestyle. Coaching is distinct from therapy, in that it tends to focus on helping functional people improve their lives, rather than treating people with clinical issues – although those lines aren’t always clear. Instead, travel coaches focus on helping people find their “why’’ for travel and how to travel with intent. Travel coaches help to put the power back into the hands of the traveler through empowerment, mindset work, guidance, support, in-depth coaching, desired results, strategic planning, intuitive travel, education, and transformation. Every travel coach is different because as travelers ourselves, we all have unique experiences, knowledge, skills, passions, interests, followers, and areas of expertise. What are some of Dr Noreen’s wellness and travel tips for beginners? Acknowledge where you are right now and next, where you would like to be. After reading this article, settle down with a notebook and write 5 things you would like to invest in to create a better version of yourself by January 2023. Then sit back and reflect on what you’re currently doing that’s holding you back from living a better, happier life. Most of us have something. It may be something obvious, like smoking, drinking or doing drugs. Or it may be something more subtle, like binge-watching Netflix every night instead of doing something more productive. Now write 5 actionable steps that you can take, starting from tomorrow, to work towards the goals you’ve just set. Besides the questions above, can you provide other information as well you think would be perfect for our readers. A quote I live by is: “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind” – Anthony Bourdain One key recommendation I’d like to leave The Official Black Magazine readers with is: do not fear change. Do not fear challenging yourself. And don’t fear the rush of jetting off to a foreign land, alone, at least once in your lifetime.

I took a moment to chat with the fabulous Jade about all things wellness travel and Girls trips! Let’s dive into her tip for a smooth girls trip and how to travel for wellness.

What is important for you to discuss when traveling with another woman? A good girls trip has a lot to do with the energy and chemistry. For instance, some women like to stay on schedule – some don’t. You must know if the women you are traveling with has the same travel style. You need to have that discussion beforehand. As a content creator you need someone who “understands the assignment” and is willing to take pictures and video. Women who are not content creators will be irritated by this.

When is your next trip?

I will be traveling to Maui, Hawaii. Her trip to Maui will be very intentional. She can do planning and self-care. She always tries to bring back that moment of safety and wellness back home. Post pandemic she got into plants. This trip she will find something that makes her feel mentally well when she can’t get back out.

What does wellness travel mean to you? Wellness travel is an opportunity to reset. Wellness travel is needed more than ever because when she is home she is always “on”. Travel gives you an opportunity to have more space to reset and journal

What does travel mean to you? Jade has been traveling all her life. Travel is just a continuation of something she has always done.

Any final words? She encourages women to go where they hold your crown high! Be unapologetic. www.theofficialblackmagazine.com

Starting the Brokerage with Charlotte Who is Charlotte Singleton? This is something I ask myself everyday, I strive to be greater than I was yesterday. I am a resource of information that can bring things and people together. I am a business mogul of different ventures, from owning Serenity Realty-Upland, rentals cars, an investing and consulting company, and a regional director for COVID-19 testing, and I haven’t even finished 2022 yet. This was the defining moment that I have to share with you! I was told at an early age that I was adopted, and at that moment I told myself I was going to be great. I was born to Howard Singleton & Donnina Jones and was given up at birth and adopted by Alfred and Ira Bell Gray. What does that dream take to own your own brokerage? It takes a commitment to want more, better, a desire, motivation, it takes a lot of learning to deal with and understand the word NO! to me it means NEXT OPPORTUNITY, I took all the no's and turned it into the NEXT OPPORTUNITY to go out and get it. It took a lot for me make those calls to my past clients I had when I did mortgage loans, to see where they we’re at in their real estate needs at that point in time when I was striving to open up my own office, I needed to hear from them that I could be of service, weather for them, their family members or associates, I was letting them know I was ready and willing to serve them. FEBRUARY 2022

"I believe that everyone should find their Y... Y am I here? or Y do I do what I do? My Y has been to serve.. " What are some of the essentials one must have to start their own brokerage? The desire to care, give, and serve, a plan to want to help others. An important element is where you open your office. Location is essential like in any business. You have to have a business plan and know core fundamentals such as how to hire agents and manage office staff. You will need to know how to market your business to agents and your overall brand.

I survived the market crash due to my ability to understand the needs and wants of families, not to pressure anyone into anything they really don’;t want or need. In June 2014, I returned to the Mortgage financing side, refinancing families I previously sold homes to years before, but I realized I didn’t like sitting in an office 6 to 8 hours a day, I needed to get back out and touch people daily. So I went into new home sales, then decided to to turn my energy into the resale side which gives me more joy. Real Estate has allowed me to touch so many lives, and has added life long friendships to my life. I have the greatest job helping families dreams of selling and getting their dream home or making the dream of home ownership a reality. I serve daily, that is my calling from the Lord. Thanks for allowing me to be of service. “Char”.

Ask yourself these questions!

“The most important thing is this, to be able at any moment to sacrifice what you are for what you want to become.”

“But I’m not finished yet.”

• •

What is going to set my brokerage aside from the big boys out there? What can I offer to attract producing agents? What type of energy do I have?

It’s about ethics and the client! As a realtor you have a fiduciary duty to your client, I am a beast for my clients, whether I’m listing their home or selling them a home, you never cross lines, as a realtor I took an oath, and all my clients will tell you that I don’t play when it comes to my business. I will never cross the line, I have too many people that depend on my honesty, loyalty and the ability to keep this business open so that they can strive and continue to be great realtors under my brokerage. There is no difference in being a broker and realtor when it comes to ethics. The main difference between a broker and realtor is that the broker oversees all realtors transactions to make sure the realtors stay in compliance. The broker has a lot more at stake, remember this when you are thinking about becoming one. How are you able to handle Real Estate in multiple cities and states? I love to network and having business relationships with brokers and realtors in other states allows us to refer clients amongst each other. I always say 25% is better than nothing, sometimes we do a 50/50 split between brokerages. I work the entire state of California, if I get a client 90% of the time that client was a referral and they expect Charlotte to handle that client and I do, no matter where they want to sell or buy in California. www.theofficialblackmagazine.com
