Is there any brand more beloved than Disney? There is arguably no name more synonymous with wonder, magic and enchantment. Indeed, the Disney brand has been carefully crafted, honed and refined since its founding in 1923 by Walt and Roy Disney. Its family-oriented philosophy has help established Disney as a force in animation, film, television, theme parks, music, theater, publishing and online media. There is no facet of entertainment that The Walt Disney Company has not touched. But what makes Disney so--for lack of a better word--magical? The answer may have been alluded to by Dorothy Ann Blank in 1938 while attempting to adapt Hans Christian Anderson’s story of the Snow Queen into an animated feature film. In her analysis of the story, she writes about maintaining the message that “childhood is never really gone. It is a great message of hope. If we could make a picture which would be, like Anderson’s story, fanciful and fantastic, and put into it our own unique entertainment value spiced with high comedy--yet retain this underlying theme--I think we would have made something truly fine.” The Snow Queen, of course, is the inspiration for this past year’s Academy Award-winning blockbuster hit, Frozen. It is the “unique entertainment value” that is so clearly a Disney trait. It is a blend of inspiration mixed with a dash of nostalgic wonder and a pinch of childlike delight. It is the mantra that governs the company in its merchandizing, customer service, and storytelling. Perhaps this is why Disney collectors are seemingly insatiable when it comes to finding rare and unique mementos that relate to the Magic Kingdom. For that, we are excited to present this Disney-themed live auction event at the DisneyanaMania Collectibles Expo. We have put together a well-rounded collection of artwork, animation cels, theme park signs, posters, ride vehicles, autographs, decorative art pieces and more. There is an important Walt Disney signed letter of gratitude to the Mayor of Anaheim mere days before the opening of Disneyland. There is an original 1960s Skyway Bucket, an animatronic bobcat from Frontierland, a 1967 Pirates of the Caribbean attraction poster, a collection of vintage Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeer ears, jumpsuits and shoes, and even a rare Duckster award. From the classics (Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs) to modern masterpieces (Frozen), from art to the theme parks, the rich and diverse history of Disney is represented. There is something to enchant every Disney collector! We hope you like it. Fong Sam & Erica Enders Co-owners of Blacksparrow Auctions

40. Vintage Walt Disney Studios1938 Dorothy Ann Blank Analysis and Treatment for The Ice Maiden which eventually became Frozen. Two original 8 1/2” x 14” legal-size typed mimeographs of an analysis and a treatment written by Dorothy Ann Blank (writer, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs) for The Ice Maiden, adapted from Hans Christian Anderson’s The Snow Queen, which is the basis for the 2013 two-time Academy Award winning animated feature, Frozen. The Treatment, dated June 7, 1938, is a 12-page general summary of the Snow Queen storyline and includes Blank’s observations and notes, as well as her suggestions for songs and direction. The Analysis is dated June 15, 1938 and includes Blank’s ideas for adapting the story into a feature. Blank writes, “The chief reason that the story SNOW QUEEN seems an ideal subject for a cartoon feature is that it has, in addition to a definite plot, a strong underlying theme.” The 5-page document ends with Blank’s conclusion: “The most valuable thing Anderson says in this little fairy tale, which is fanciful and fantastic at times, highly amusing at others, and occasionally deeply pathetic, is… No one is ever so lost that a simple, child-like faith cannot touch him… No one can grow so old or so clever that something truly simple cannot make him see the true values of life… childhood is never really gone. It is a great message of hope. If we could make a picture which would be, like Anderson’s story, fanciful and fantastic, and put into it our own unique entertainment value spiced with high comedy—yet retain this underlying theme—I think we would have made something truly fine. D.A.B.” Truly prophetic words! Indeed, Disney did finally make this feature film, after years of revisions in adapting Anderson’s dark original story into one that appealed to modern audiences, and was rewarded this past year with two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature. These two documents, by a celebrated writer, represent some of the earliest work on what is to become Frozen. The timespan from exploration for a feature in 1938 to the release of the film in 2013 was 75 years! These historic documents come from the collection of Walt Disney’s personal secretary, Inez Henderson, and remain in very good condition. STARTING AT $1,000

Pair of vintage clown apparel ankle covers, teal cotton with button side closures, foot straps and balls of green yarn attached to the front. Western Costume label with handwritten “Bing Crosby.” Western Costume is one of the oldest costume rental company in the entertainment industry and has been supplying Hollywood with costumes since 1912. It is very likely that these ankle covers were recycled after the end of a particular Hollywood production and later acquired by the Walt Disney Studios. The specific nature of these ankle covers suggest that Bing Crosby used them in a role that required the actor to dress up as a clown, which he does in the production of Dixie (Paramount, 1943). Bing Crosby was also known to have dressed up at a clown for St. John’s Hospital Charity Benefits. In any case, these ankle covers were later used by Bob Amsberry on the original Mickey Mouse Club, where he played “Bob-O,” the circus clown, during the 1950s. Accompanied with a vintage black & white 8” x 10” photo still of Bob-O wearing these ankle covers. The covers exhibit wear and some fading, as normal with age and usage. However, the producers of Tron wanted to be different and not follow the norm. They asked Richard Winn Taylor II, the co-supervisor of visual effects for Tron if he would create a unique crew jacket. Using the ”Members Only” jacket as the basis, Richard designed a jacket which featured unique graphics and a special logo on the sleeve by Scott Kim, which can be read as the word “Tron” both right side up and upside down.
