A Western Story

Peter Dunstan is a big rancher who wants more. His most recent purchase is a ranch that comes with a stipulation: he must retain Sandy Sweyn, a halfwit with the ability to talk to animals. Dunstan thinks he has a fabulous gift on his hands, but when he tries to take advantage of Sandy’s ability, misfortune inevitably befalls him.

Tom Fuller, a fellow of incredible physical strength who has a way with horses, is generally regarded as a half-wit, having been fired from every job he’s had. Oliver Champion, impressed by Tom’s ability, recognizes him as the son of a renowned gunfighter and proposes Tom become his bodyguard. Tom accepts but soon discovers that Champion is a convict on a quest for revenge.

n December 1837, the young adults of the Cynster clan are celebrating the family Christmas at snowbound Casphairn Manor. Led by Sebastian, Lucilla, and Marcus, the upcoming generation has its own plans for the holiday season. Yet where Cynsters gather, love is never far behind. The occasion brings together Daniel Crosbie, boys’ tutor, and Claire Meadows, widow and Cynster governess, and the embers of an unexpected passion smolder between them, even while Claire believes a second marriage is not in her stars. Then on Christmas Eve, the young adults of the Cynster clan face their first collective test when they respond to a plea for help during a violent storm.

Our Miss Brooks was a radio sitcom that centered on Connie Brooks, a sharp-witted, lovable English teacher. Between gentle wisecracks, Miss Brooks dotes on nerdish student Walter Denton and frequently locks horns with crusty, cranky Principal Osgood Conklin.

This collection contains twelve of the greatest mystery shows ever broadcast during the golden age of radio! You’ll hear Richard Widmark starring in Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Orson Welles in The Black Museum, Peter Lorre in Mystery in the Air, and many others.

Through the strange interlocking of events past and present, the two celebrated detectives meet to focus their razor-sharp intellects—and their brilliant powers of observation—on the mystery of … Jack the Ripper, history’s most depraved murderer. Lurking in narrow, fog-shrouded alleys, he crept forth night after night to murder—and mutilate. ELLERY QUEEN

is the pseudonym two cousins from Brooklyn used to write detective fiction. In their successful series, Ellery Queen served as both the authors’ name and that of the detective-hero. The cousins also cofounded Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, one of the most influential English crime-fiction magazines of the twentieth century. They were given the Grand Master Award by the Mystery Writers of America in 1961.

Rick Galloway and his band of mercenaries were abducted and deposited on an alien world where the other inhabitants are also human—but from various unfriendly periods of history. To create a safe society, they must convince the others that a unified society is better than a collection of warring tribes. But on a planet where the other dominant culture is straight out of ancient Rome, that’s easier said than done.

Kidnapped from Earth as they were about to die in battle, Rick Galloway and his band of mercenaries, like the other human slaves on the planet Tran, will not be missed. Subjects of the Shalnuksi slave masters, they are forced to harvest the priceless drug surinomaz. But now these transplanted warriors are locked in battle against each other—and disaster is coming.

“Jerry Pournelle is one of science fiction’s great storytellers.”—Poul Anderson “A man who knows not just the military and the future but the great art of storytelling.” —Gordon R. Dickson, member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, praise for the author
