Black Youth Achievements’ (BYA), is a registered Community Interest Company founded by Kay Oldroyd in February 2008. In 2009 they hosted a very successful event - 'Black Youth Achievements - The Awards', with the objective of highlighting and promoting the positive actions and achievements of young black people (those of a African / Caribbean heritage, parents or parent ) within the UK community. The winners received an award, and started on the BYA Mentoring Programme for the next 12 months. Their mentors are specific to their category, and this will provide them with invaluable support and guidence. The winners will also go on to be Peer Mentors to the next year's short-listed nominees, creating an ongoing network. The annual awards will provide a platform for these young people to be openly recognised, rewarded and celebrated; the aim being to increase esteem and pride amongst the target group of 8 - 25 year olds.
