MUSIC ALL AWARE

A Call to Patrons of the Arts

A

cultivate talent

About our name… Music All Aware is an organization that is issuing a call to Central Virginia. We’re calling students to a new level of excellence through our inclusive instruction in the performing arts. We call the citizens of Central Virginia to be aware of the unfulfilled talent that exists in our midst…to materially assist in its cultivation… and to enjoy the many blessings brought to a community through the arts.

It’s hidden inside students throughout Central Virginia. And within those same students, there’s tremendous potential for personal growth and achievement, waiting to be released and cultivated. MAA seeks to be the means through which all students in our community have the chance to discover the rewards of achievement in the performing arts. Right now, arts programs in the region operate on a scale that limits the range of opportunities available to students. We need your help to truly open new doors for all.

Our Vision: An Unsurpassed Spectrum of Students and Experiences

vision Undoubtedly, there are already some fine music teachers in the Central Virginia area, as well as school programs and even a few performance venues. But we believe that there remains a need for a facility that accomplishes these three goals fully: • provides a truly comprehensive range of studies in performance, theory, and technology • operates a unified, technologically advanced facility • serves determined students from ages 7 to 19, regardless of ability to pay We at MAA envision a program that serves a complete range of students with a complete range of performing arts instruction—music, voice, dance, and studio arts. And we envision it being housed in a facility that provides space for everything from instruction and practice to public performance in a sizable auditorium and professional production in a state-of-the-art recording facility.

E

Since Virginia has no state school of the arts, we seek for MAA to become a focus of arts in the Commonwealth, hosting regional competitions, and serving as a cultural hub for the entire region.

Excellence for ALL Ultimately, our goal is for MAA to be distinguished by one thing: Excellence. We desire excellence in facilities—but more significantly, excellence in students. Many youth music programs are almost recreational in nature. They’re not necessarily designed to stretch and grow the students. Our program emphasizes in-depth studies along with such frequently overlooked qualities as concert, stage and performance etiquette. Students at MAA will gain a full experience that reaches beyond performance and into dimensions such as recording and studio production. For those students inclined toward theatre, we plan to offer an immersive program that incorporates lighting, set and costume design, and stage sound.

excellence

We anticipate offering scholarship assistance to a significant portion of our students to ensure that these experiences are available to all children in our community, not just a fortunate few.

M

Music’s Lessons Students at MAA will learn far more than scales and arpeggios. Dedicated, goal-oriented studies in music help impart a variety of lessons and values, including: • commitment, dedication, perseverance • self-esteem • teamwork/ensemble coordination • confidence • public speaking skills • performance manners & etiquette • responsibility • self-discipline • appreciation for a range of musical styles

dedication

Not only will students at MAA discover a great deal about music and the arts…they’ll also discover a great deal about themselves, their abilities, their potential. You can help us bring these broadening benefits to students throughout our community.

Imagine the Dimensions It’s exciting to contemplate the many ways MAA will enrich not only students’ lives, but also our community: • Students will gain valuable opportunities to develop and showcase their talents through public performances that can be enjoyed by thousands of area residents. • With MAA’s modern recording facilities, kids in our program will have a unique opportunity to record and participate in CD projects that can touch audiences from coast to coast. • Given the comprehensive range of studies, students can start as a beginner, and finish here years later—fully prepared for college or conservatory programs. • MAA can serve as a feeder for other arts programs in the region. • Music majors from area colleges and universities can undertake student teaching or practicum assignments. • Area music teachers could utilize the MAA auditorium for their own recitals. The list goes on – but it all begins with your support.

Where We Are Now At present, the MAA vision is being carried out on a far too modest scale. Using borrowed facilities, we have already seen the difference that our excellence-oriented approach can make in the lives of individual students, and in the positive responses of inner city youth groups. Our two founders bring more than just a vision to the MAA organization (see their biographies on the back panel); both have extensive educational credentials, coupled with decades of professional experience in all facets of music performance, creation, and production. They’ve recognized the needs that exist in the region, and have seen the enthusiastic response with which their efforts in the community have already been met. They’re now ready to channel their experience into the creation of a regional institution.

Where You Can Help Us Go

partnership

Let’s face it: the arts need patrons these days. In recent years, public funding for arts has been cut, with the result that many communities and school systems have had to make hard choices about what they can offer. The results of your support for MAA will be remarkably visible and immediate. Funding will remain here in the community, helping to invigorate the local cultural climate. You’ll be able to see its fruits in the progress and expansions of our programs, and in the establishment of a dedicated, fully-equipped home for those programs. If you wish, you can even focus your support on a particular resource, such as a new instrument, or an individual room. From day one, you’ll be able to help us provide scholarships that ensure the openness of our programs. In the future, you’ll be able to help us add offerings such as music therapy programs to aid challenged residents of the area. Our unique goals make it impractical for us to attempt to build upon programs currently underway in the community, or “piggyback” upon facilities currently in operation. The utterly integrated nature of our program and facility demands an organization and resources structured toward a unified purpose. As they work to make this vision a reality, our Board of Directors is committed to being accountable, responsible stewards of your donations.

make a difference

With your help, the MAA difference will be seen in the poise and confidence of our students, and hea r d in the polish of their performances.
