BLAKE WOODRUFF URBAN PLANNING PORTFOLIO

ABOUT Introduction I’ve always had a strong passion for Urban Planning and Design. However, I wasn’t aware that I was interested in Urban Planning till someone defined it for me. I wasn’t sure if I should go into the field of planning or focus more in the field of design, but after dialogue with planners I learned I could have both. I was humbly and joyfully accepted into the School of Planning. I plan to obtain a Master’s in Landscape Architecture or Community Planning. I want to work with neighborhoods to create community through strategic design and planning. I love the large spread umbrella of opportunities and fields accessible through Planning. I have interests in all aspects of Planning, really. Economics, transportation, design, zoning, law, revitalization, politics.

College Drive | Cramped Space

How do you take what makes Main Street highly comfortable and apply that to College Drive to improve its comfortability? 1. A path with a flowing natural design reminiscent of Main Street. This would begin to allow College Drive to open up and feel more walkable and pedestrian friendly. 2. A shared brick roadway, no sidewalk, like that of Main Street so that cars, bicycles and pedestrians feel safe sharing space.

N First Draft Largely influenced by site analyses and topography maps. Organic road layout shaped by topography and view-sheds.

Second Draft Abstract layout of land-uses. Looking at a grid layout, rather than a natural organic street layout. The green-space corridor is more complete than other aspects.

Third Draft This draft reflects the zoning-code more accurately like setbacks and road-with. A mixture of grid and organic road layouts define different land-uses.
