Weatherford Public Library Summer Reading Challenge June 1st - August 6th 2021

At WPL, we use Beanstack to manage the Summer Reading Challenge programs. This online summer reading management program is a free service that will help you track and manage participation in the library’s Summer Reading Challenge Reading Rewards Program for kids and teens and the Adult Summer Library Challenge. You can set up as many profiles within your account as needed, so it is easy to track participation for the whole family. If you used Beanstack with us a previous summer, a new account is not needed, as you can continue to use the account that you have already. Your password can be reset if you have forgotten it; please do not create an additional account. Let us know if you need assistance. If you are new to Beanstack, setting up your account takes just a couple simple steps and doesn’t require that you download anything, as it is browser-based. An optional mobile app is available if you choose to download and use it as well. If you do not have access to a computer, tablet, smartphone, or other internet connected device at home, the library’s computers can be used to participate. Need help? Visit us at the library and we will be happy to assist you with setting up your account and showing you how to use it. 1. Go to weatherfordtx.beanstack.org. 2. Look for your age group and click register. 3. Enter the required information and you’ll be all set with your account (a library card is not required to sign up with Beanstack). Information on Beanstack’s privacy policies can be found at: https://www.beanstack.com/privacy/. In addition to tracking your progress in the library’s summer challenges, Beanstack will alert you when you have earned a prize to be picked up at the library and will track your entries into any prize drawings for the summer reading programs. At the conclusion of the summer reading programs, Beanstack will conduct random drawings to select our winners from all entries received. The prize drawings are sponsored by the Friends of the Weatherford Public Library (a 501(c)3 corporation), 1014 Charles Street, Weatherford, TX 76086. Drawings are to be held the week of August 9th through 13th, 2021. Parental Notice: Beanstack requires personal information. If you choose to use Beanstack, you can apply Beanstack’s privacy policy addressing children’s privacy at any time. This allows parents to request that all of their child’s data be deleted from Beanstack’s database by sending an email message to contact@beanstack.com with “Request for Child Information Removal” as the subject, and the name and age of the child in the body of the message. There are numerous paid and free parental monitoring apps available should you wish to keep tabs on when your children are accessing the Beanstack website or should you wish to block access altogether. Additionally, if you are not comfortable sharing your children’s information, you may also opt out and use a paper log to participate in the program.

Help support the library! Ask any staff member how to become a member of the Friends of the Library!

Summer Reading Challenge Reading Rewards Program •Do you have a child aged from birth to 11 or a teen aged from 12 to 18 (and still in school)? •Are you a youth or a teen yourself? •Did you join our Summer Reading Challenge through Beanstack and can’t wait to earn prizes? You’re in the right place! The Reading Rewards Program works in the same way for all youth aged from birth to 18 years. It’s all about counting the minutes you spend reading. Each minute you read is worth one point and it doesn’t matter what you like to read – books, magazines, comics and audiobooks all count toward your goals. Also, reading aloud counts, so if you are a parent reading to a baby, toddler, or preschooler, they can earn prizes. If you are a kid or teen who likes to read aloud with younger siblings and family members, it counts for both of you. You can track your reading using Beanstack which will give you information about your prizes as you earn them. If you don’t have access to a computer or device that connects to the Internet or you prefer to track your reading on paper, you can use the reading log we have included on the next two pages and we will help you enter the information into our Beanstack website when you visit the library. Prizes are earned once you have read 5 hours, 10 hours, 15 hours, and 20 hours. You’ll have plenty of time to work on reaching all these goals – the Reading Rewards Program lasts from June 1st until August 6th. If you keep reading, you might become one of our Mega Readers. If you read 25 hours or more, you will earn a ticket to our Mega Reader Drawing for every 5 hours of reading done starting at 25 hours. If you can keep reading, you can keep earning tickets. You do need to get them all in by August the 6th, however, as the Mega Reader Drawings will be held the week of August 9th - 13th. There are three separate Mega Reader Drawings: one for ages 0-3 with special prizes selected for our youngest readers, one for ages 4-11, and another for teens – and each drawing will have three winners. The prize packets will be the same for each drawing, but different depending on the age group, so that kids and teens can have prizes tailored to their interests. We have also set up activities as part of the online Reading Rewards Program that challenge you to do something different and earn points! The activity points you earn will be combined with your reading points to earn badges. Whether you plan to earn rewards through reading only, or a combination of reading and activities, get ready to imagine your way through the best summer ever!

Adult Summer Library Challege Are you an adult aged 18 or older? If yes, our Adult Summer Library Challenge (SLC) was created just for you because we don’t believe that only the kids get to have fun over the summer! How To Earn Points Read, complete challenges, and participate in virtual events June 1st through August 16th, and you will earn points. Every minute read = 1 point, challenges and virtual events have point values from 5-25 points each, and book reviews you write count for 15 points per review. How to Earn Prizes and SLC Drawings Tickets On Beanstack, track your time spent reading (this includes graphic novels, magazines, eBooks, and listening to audiobooks), as well as each challenge you complete or virtual event that you participate in, in order to earn points, prizes, and tickets for the SLC Drawings. Every 300 points earned = 1 ticket for the SLC Drawings. Adult Prizes: Readers who earn 600 points will win an exclusive Clip On Reading Light. Readers who reach 1200 points will win an exclusive Weatherford Public Library Tote Bag. These prizes are limited in number and once they are gone, they’re gone! How to Redeem SLC Drawings Tickets Beanstack will keep track of the tickets that you earn. You can designate which prize(s) you want your tickets submitted toward for the SLC Drawings. Prize Distribution At the end of the Summer Reading Challenge, Beanstack will randomly select winners from all tickets entered in the SLC Drawings. Winners will be drawn the week of August 9th - 13th. Winners will be contacted and prizes must be claimed from the library by Wednesday,September 1st or we will have Beanstack draw a new winner.
