In the village of Tulum can find souvenir shops and supermarkets, small restaurants, utilities, banks and post office. The main activities of the people are fishing, building palapas, and making crafts and rustic furniture.
This ancient trading port and Mayan ceremonial center used to be surrounded by a wall, hence its current name, which in Mayan means “wall”.
The archaeological site of Tulum, formerly called “Zama” (which in Mayan means “dawn”), is built on the seafront, offering spectacular views of the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

he kitchen in the Mundo Maya is known for a wide variety of dishes and recipes, as well as the complexity for processing. Poco a poco se han incorporado nuevos ingredientes a la cocina maya yucateca y se han adoptado formas más estilizadas de montar los platillos, concediéndole mayor sofisticación culinaria sin perder el sabor tradicional que le es característico. El relativo aislamiento geográfico de la Península de Yucatán, permitió que surgiera una tradición culinaria diferente a la del resto de México.
